Stayed here for 3 nights to visit Durham and en route to Northumberland. Well laid out site and very friendly wardens. Facilities are very good. As previously stated there is road noise from the A1 but not intrusive.
Very quiet in December. The park and ride is a 20 minute walk away but you have to cross the busy A1 roundabout. £2 each return and senior bus passes are accepted

Very conveniently situated for motorway. There is a steady rumble from the motorway traffic, but it's steady so not difficult to ignore.
Open all year, so very handy.
Possibly not a site to stay on for your holiday but great for touring.
Immaculate as all CMC sites.

Stayed at this site to visit the city of Durham. The site is very close to the A1(M) and The A690. It is pretty noisy from background traffic. Pitches are quite small. Durham centre is more than 2 miles away. I felt the site was more of a transit site for those driving North/South than one for staying to visit the city.
You can walk from the site along the river to the city centre about two and a half miles. There is a park and ride very close by on the other side of the A1(M). It is closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays though. If you get there before 1100 on a Sunday or Bank Holiday there is lots of free parking on the outskirts of town.
The facilities were all good as you would expect from a Caravan Club site. At almost £29 per night over a Bank Holiday weekend I felt it was too expensive for the above reasons.
We did receive a warm welcome from the site staff.

Delightful site just of juntion 62 on the A1m, ideally located to visit local museums and tourist attractions.
Very cheerful and helpful wardens, W/Cs showers spotlessly clean.
Lots of flowers in bloom in pots around the site giving the site a homely feel, long drive way into the site.
Good size motor home service area with plenty of water/waste service areas. Washing Machine and drier currently at £4 a wash.
Ideal site to stop over if your heading up the east coast, the A19 is easily reached via the A 690.

We visited this site on the 27 march for 4 nights, we chose this site as it was the nearest to beamish museum. We had a warm welcome from the owners we had the choice of pitches In the colour band for our motorhome lovely spacious pitch on gravel quite level enough space for a awning and car if needed.
Plenty of filling points and waste disposal bins and recycling bins and crates for glass bottles, I have never been to such tidy clean service areas. The toilet block was superb very clean lovely and warm very spaciousness 4 hairdryers separate cubicles with sinks in if you wanted privacy showers spacious clean and hot.
Washing up room, laundry room, baby room. Small children's play area very busy site with been so close to a1 and you can hear the A1 but not too intrusive. There is a small warm well lit information room and a few essentials in shop.
It is a fairly long walk to bus stops across slip roads from a1 and no park and rides on bank holidays. I would come again its a good base to tour the area with a car. Well done durham grange caravan park.

Exactly what we expected. Typical caravan club high standard. I'm sleeping in toilet block tonight it that toasty and warm. Flat hard standing pitches.
Actually a very pleasant view even if some of it is over the A1. Off to Durham in a mo on park and ride. Good base for 2 days in Durham before off to Seahouses.

A convenient site for visiting Durham city centre. It's near to a Park & Ride, though you have to follow a very busy road and cross a motorway bridge. Facilities were good and staff friendly. Location is more of a base than somewhere to hang around as it's surrounded by industrial buildings etc. Good site that does the job!

Very nice, clean site with friendly wardens but far too close to the AI. The noise made it impossible to sit outside.
We enjoyed our visits to Durham cathedral and the castle. We bought a book of walks around Durham before our visit and this was well worth using.
As we have a motorhome we used the buses to get to the city, either the 'park and ride' or the regular bus service but it was a bit hairy getting to either as there are several busy roads to cross.
We would not use this site again.

Lovely site, clean and friendly. Very convenient for visiting Durham: bus a few minutes walk and taxis (£5. 40) home. The location's convenience means that the site is very close to the A1 and slip roads which makes walking to the bus stop 'hairy': I wouldn't want to attempt this with children. Other reviews comment on road noise, although this is true, it didn't bother us at all. If we visit the area again we would definitely stay here again.

Being a Caravan Club site the ablution facilities complied with Caravan Club standards and were well maintained. On this visit we were not overcome by the friendliness of the Wardens who nevertheless went about their duties clinically.
The site is in close proximity to busy roads and all that brings. Be especially careful if you decide to walk to the Park and Ride; crossing the road by the campsite is even more tricky on return to the campsite - some would say dangerous. Proximity to Durham is a plus point; 10 minutes by bus.
Do not get the impression of a pleasant walk into Durham '. Along the river-side. '. That would be a bit misleading. The first part of the walk, to get to the river, takes about twenty five minutes or so and involves negotiating an overgrown footpath with evidence of being used regularly by dog-owners. The rest of the walk into Durham is pleasant but by no means in the open.
