First time out in our caravan and we found the site very clean and tidy, the caravans were well spaced out. The site warden was very friendly and helpful. Not much in the little shop on site but 5mins in the car and there was a 24hr Tesco.
There was a nice walk into the wood and down to the river were some people were fishing. I would visit this site again an would recommend it to friends.

The park is run by the Caravan Club and as usual, well looked after with spotless toilet block and plenty hot water in the fantastic and warm showers.
Kids playpark is very very good, swings, climbing frame, chutes etc. The only drawback that it is stuck in a corner and open at the back to woodlands on a bit of a hill so even if you can see it from your van, it's not really appropriate for small children on their own.
A bit noisy from the A1 during the day, but you do get used to it. Lots to do in Durham with plenty shops and a great discount sports shop.
Hardstanding pitches near the playpark are rock hard so you will need rock pegs for here or you might just give up with
Your awning.
Our children thoroughly enjoyed this park although I would have preferred the playpark closed off at the back. It is well worth a visit and we would go back if we visited the area again as it is so close to everywhere.

Good spacious pitches on this site although pitching near the lower hedges can mean plenty of flies coming into your van. Good clean warm toilet block and facilities.
The walk to the park and ride into Durham involves crossing ten sections of busy roads only three of which are controlled for pedestrians. Crossing the dual carriage way immediately outside the camp is chancy because of it's close proximity to the A1 island which traffic leaves at considerable speed

Our party was made up of Mum, Dad, our 2 children aged 9 & 7 and our dog.
We arrived on a Saturday and the directions were spot on. Check in was easy and the lady on duty most helpful with any questions. We choose a pitch which made up a small circle near to the main gates.
Now Grange is located right next to the A1M with only a caravan storage yard and an access road in between the Club Site and the main motorway carriageway but I found that the road noise was very quickly not noticed. It was more noticeable during rush hour but I could not really make out any HGV noise at night.
The toilet blocks were spotless and always clean and warm. If I had to find fault the only fault I would comment on is the Gents toilets are poorly laid out as if a fella is standing at the first urinal, then the next fella almost has to push past him to get tp the next one and viceversa.
Tesco and a large retail park is nearby in Belmont and there is a famous chippy located in the same town, but having had a portion of chips from there, I would rate other places ahead of this chippy.
While on the site, we visited the Angle of the North, South Shields, Shildon Railway Museum, Hill Top Farm, Durham and a few other places but both Hill Top Farm and Shildon Railway Museum surpassed our expectations and were excellent value for money.
Our only let down was that there is no dog walk on site and nothing really local due to main roads except for a walk via public footpaths not well signposted. A map of this walk can be brought from the sites reception for a charge but having paid so much to The Caravan Club already in 2010, I decided not to buy the map in protest.
All in all, we will be going, if only to visit the nearby Beamish Museum that we never got the see this time around.

Lovely site, totally spotless! Wardens really polite and helpful. This was our first outing with our new caravan and they couldn't do enough to ensure we were set up and running ok.
Excellent location for winter touring. 2 min drive into the gorgeous city of Durham. Woke up to snow on our last morning, not a problem towing home as very close to motorway.
Very well organised. We can't wait to return.

Really enjoy this site, even though it is only 15 miles from my home, it is easy to get to and allows me to chill out away from everything. It's good to have the grandkids come over as it's not far for them to travel either.
The toilet and shower blocks are spotless and WARM (it was minus 3 outside during daytime when we stayed.
The children's playground is very good with lots for them to do.
The only downside is the constant but distant traffic noise from the adjacent A1M motorway - next time would pick a pitch diagonally opposite the reception block as this is furthest from traffic noise.
All in though an excellent site and for those who like city touring Durham is only 3 miles away - we always use the Park & ride on other side of Motorway junction as it's not worth the hassle trying to park and also paying congestion charge in Durham.

Visited this site for a one night flying visit to Durham.
Just off the A1 so very easy access to the site. The site itself has all you would expect from a CC site with usual caravan club standards of cleanliness and facilities etc,
Only real downside for me was the noise from the A1 was quite loud even at 5 am when I woke up.
We left our car on site and used the park and ride to get in to Durham £1.70 each and took no more than 5 mins to get to the heart of the city, and we got a taxi (£5) back after a few well deserved ales in Durham.
We found the site to be a little sterile and characterless ok for a one nighter though

I have just returned after 4 nights at this site. On the plus side this site is the usual CC standard. Toilet block clean and tidy. The warden and his wife were very friendly and helpful. On the down side there is a Council depot right next to the site and there is quite a bit of noise with skips etc. Late at night and early in the morning so I would recommend pitching as far away from the gate as possible. When we were leaving we stopped at the toilet block to empty the cassette toilet and a worker (could have been the Asst. Warden) barked at us 'you can't park there, I want to take the tractor out'. We thought this was a terrible way to speak to paying customers and suggest he attends a Customer Service Course. Politeness costs nothing. Please ask for a handwritten map when booking in as if we had received this on the first day it would have saved a lot of stress. It has all the supermarkets, pubs, eateries etc. On this map and was very helpful.

On arrival at this site we received the most friendly welcome anyone could ask for. We stayed for two weeks. Everything was so well cared for. Wardens seemed to have a great pride in their site. So much to see in this area. Used local park and ride to visit Durham. Lovely city. Cathedral well worth a visit.Fish and chip shop in Belmont sells excellent quality food. It even provides you with the name of the ffjord where the fish was caught.
Overall it is impossible to fault this site.
The A1m is audible throughout the night but one expects this if staying near a busy main road.
We spent a very happy two weeks thanks to the friendliness of the staff here.
