Simplicity itself to find as per caravan club directions. Cleanliness on site can only be described as immaculate. Wardens genuinely friendly and helpful. Not worth taking the car into Durham. Park and ride was £1.70 return or free with bus pass, runs every 10 minutes from Belmont Park. Turn left at T junction on leaving the site, straight on at roundabout signposted Sunderland, Belmont Park is approx 200yards on the left. River boat cruise good value at £6, even better value was the guided tour of the the castle/ unversity. Free entry into Durham cathedral, donations accepted. The cafe in the cathedral was excellent value. Discount at Beamish open air museum with caravan club card. All in all an excellent site with plenty going on to keep you occupied.

We have just spent 14 nights at Grange. We are new to the caravan club so were hoping we have made the right choice. We arrived at 2.30pm and were given a map of the site. As we were staying for this length it was suggested we use a hard standing pitch, I was a little sceptical as we had only booked a standard pitch. We parked up outside the toilet blocks and went in search of an empty pitch (we had 3 to choose from) One was close to the park but far from the loos, the other was near the entrance so we settled for pitch 5 which was next door but 1 to the loo's (mum in law happy). Our kids are 8 & 9 so were more than capable of finding their own way to & from the park. They took their scooters as I wasn't sure they would have room for their bikes. They had plenty as it happened!
The pitches are HUGE and we had enough space for van, awning and car and still have space to walk around the car. It rained a few times, mainly through the night but we had no drainage issues at all. We had a list of things to do, Diggerland (pricey @ £15 each but lost the day, had so much fun) Beamish (good job they issue an unlimited pass so we can return again free), Newcastle's Metro Centre, Durham, Seaham (quiet seaside) and Souter Lighthouse(free to NT members or £4.75 ea). Then there is North Shields (and the ferry to South Shields at £2 inc bus transfer) ALL within 20 miles away! We only just managed to use a tank of fuel including getting there towing! Tesco is only 3 miles away but badly signposted.
The loo's were kept immaculate and the separate cubicles was handy for getting dressed separate to the showers. The loos close across lunchtime for cleaning and it was only on the last day we discovered the extra loo down the side of the block for use when main ones are shut! There are plenty of bins, taps and drains so in my opinion it would be a waste to spend the extra upgrading to a service pitch, the farthest you would have to go is 4 pitches for water/drainage. The staff were all very friendly but as our boys are older they were unable to play ball games. That is really my only gripe, and its a shallow one.
We only had one lazy day as there is so much to see and do, may have to visit again and SOON. We paid £175 less here than our Cornwall holiday last year and I enjoyed this so much more. I have no idea why so many visitors to Grange only spend one or two nights here. There is a fab washing machine (£3 per load) and dryer (60p) and even an iron (10p) what more could you need? I can also recommend the 'Taybarn restaurant' near Angel of the North. Its all you can eat for £7.99 inc puddings! NE16 3BL enjoy.

Site was very well kept and pleasant. Toilet block was spotless and clean. The site office did sell a few basics but couldn't be called a shop. There was a short dog walk on site and a very large dog walking field within 5 mins.
Security was great with a keyfob entry/exit.
Site is next to A1 so great for travelling around the area, didn't hear the car/lorry noise while on site. Durham city centre was only 10 mins by car and the parking was very reasonably priced.
We stayed on a serviced pitch which was huge, had caravan (side on), awning and car on pitch. Still had enough room for another 2 cars. All hardstanding with a grass 3/4 around the pitch. So other pitches were well spaced.
Definitely recommend the site to others.

We have just come back from this lovely clean safe caravan park . We have 2 boys 5 and 8 years old they have a wonderful time playing at the play area which was FAB . Riding the bikes around the park which I felt was very safe. Spotless toilet at all times and the park was full and they stayed clean all the time. I would recommend this park to anyone. Very close and easy to get to Durham, park and ride 5min walk away .

We have just spent a night on this campsite as a stop over on our way home from Scotland. We thought this campsite was very nice, the staff very friendly and the amenities were spotless with brilliant showers. The area was very easy to get to from the A1 and we thought we would be disturbed by traffic noise but we weren't. The children's play area was sufficient for our two boys and they enjoyed the facilities. We would recommend this site as a stop over or we would like to go back for a bit longer to explore the surrounding area.

Love this site! It is a literally a 5 minute drive into Durham and easy to find, just off the A1 which you can hear in the background but didn't bother us at all. Toilets and showers were absolutely immaculate, this is really important to me as if the wash facilities are great everything else seems to fall into place.

We have just returned from a fabulous long weekend here. I can recommend this site to everyone of all ages. The facilities are first class, staff very helpful and friendly. The park and ride £1.70 per person all day is just a short stroll (over a busy dual carriagway) away. Tesco's is just a 4 min drive away (ask for a map at reception 10p per sheet)and there is a lovely riverside walk into Durham (map at reception 10p)which takes about an hour. We also went into Durham for the evening and found some nice bars and restaurants and the taxi back to base only cost us £6.00.
We can't wait to return and as this site is only an hour from home and open all year this could become a firm favourite of ours.

Just got back from a few days at this site and found it very clean and tidy, the wardens are friendly and helpful and the shower blocks are immaculate and warm. When we arrived we were too late for a hard standing and had to pitch on the grass which seemed quite firm but I still put the van on grip mats which I was pleased I had as it rained quite hard and the van still sunk slightly but not enough to cause any probs.
The site is close to the A1 and there is some noise from it but it is only in the background and did not bother us. Buses run from the park and ride a short distance from the site 7am to 7 pm and is £1.70 for travel that day under 16s free it does not operate on a sunday. There are buses from carrville high st about 15 mins walk from site on a sunday three times an hour £1.30 each way and walk back to site takes you past the belmont social club which is quite good and welcomes campers. The main street has fish and chip shop which we did not try but we had chinese take away from mr chengs whose menu we found in the info room on the site and it was very nice.
Durham is a very interesting city with plenty to see and some good walks. There is a good child play area on site and a good riverside walk to durham from the site. All in all a very nice site and we will be back as it is just 1 hour drive away for us.

This was our maiden journey since picking up our van. We couldn't have picked a better site for our first trip. The site was immaculate and staff really helpful and knowledgeable. They directed us to the 'park and ride' and other amenities, giving us advice on the cheapest fares and the safest places to cross roads etc. The toilets were warm and clean with powerful showers and the site well lit, making it easy to find our van in the dark. We walked to the park and ride which took us about 10 mins. The buses ran regularly and on time for Durham City Centre and other destinations. We did a spot of Christmas shopping and ate out. There were lots of places to eat, shop and drink when not taking in Durhams history, without the necessity for a car, as their is plenty of taxis if you don't fancy public transport. Although fairly local we will definitely return.

We stayed at this site for 5 nights and couldn't fault it.
Facilities:
The site was immaculate in all areas and the facilities for young families were fab. The site has a baby/toddler room which has a half size bath on two levels so good for bathing babies or toddlers, It has a large flat workspace area for holding all the bits and bobs you need close to hand when bathing little ones and the loo is a mini loo which my kids (5 3 and 3) thought fabulous! oh and it has a hairdryer too!
The toilet and shower blocks were great too, with an extra shower, toilet and sink cubicle adapted for disabled guests within the communal shower block as well as having a seperate disabled washroom too. The blocks also have (complementary)hairdryers, around 4 in the ladies I think!
The laundry room has only one washer and one dryer plus a large sink for handwashing and an iron and ironing board. It does not have a seperate spin dryer (which I find really useful when touring).
Playground:
The playground for the kids is fantastic, The warden told me it had only been fitted in about a year previously (so not very well advertised when booking this site) and we weren't sure that there was one at all until we got there! (Could do with being added to site particulars). The playground suits all ages my 3 kids (5 3 and 3) loved it, it's all that nice chunky smooth wooden frames with swings, climbing ropes, slides, tunnels, firemans pole, seesaw and those mini roundabout pole things. I would say kids upto about 10 years old would enjoy the park area.
Surrounding area:
The site is close to the motorway but to be honest what traffic noise there was did not bother us at all. The park and ride into durham is literally a 2 minute (if that) drive away, the 2 local retail parks are easy to find (head for Belmont or follow the 'Karting' signposts) there is a tesco extra there along with many other shops and it is literally a 5 minute drive from the site. Durham city is not much further and is a beutiful city with a good selection of shops and lots of nice places to eat out. We also took a walk through the woods by the riverside which was really pretty.
All in all agood site and still plenty to do and see nearby regardless of the weather.
