This place is like a holding pen for The Jeremy Kyle Show. The site itself is fine. The pitches are largely decent and the facilities are mostly passable. Unfortunately the site seems to attract a rough crowd. We were kept awake on the first night by groups of Mancs and Scousers scrapping. On the second night another family pitched near us with at least 9 kids between them by my count, went out and bought a quad bike! and we had to endure the kids squabbling and taking turns driving it up and down past our tent for most of the evening, drowning out our music and conversation. This morning we were woken up by someone doing laps of the field sounding their horn. We decided to come home early.

This was our first visit here, and to be fair we probably picked a really busy weekend, but reading the other reviews, other people have found similar problems.

One or two other (small) criticisms : Dogs are not allowed in the on site club (any other 'dog friendly' we have been to don't seem to mind). The site isn't very well signposted. And lastly, no lights in the toilets.

In spite of all that we may go back again sometime when it's less busy to see if we find it any better.

This site is so badly run I was amazed at the fact it still exists! On arrival we were taken to a spot for electric hookup 15 metres away from the hookup point, the toilet block had no lighting, no soap, was dirty and generally disgusting.

The shower block was in need of refurbishment, never had soap in the dispensers and we were lucky if the hand dryers worked. The staff, although very helpful, polite and courteous, we're rarely seen.

Rubbish piled up for 4 days before it was cleared, litter blew around the campsite. An altogether terrible experience.

Mum and Dad decided to take our 16 year old and 5 friends camping to celebrate his birthday. We chose this site as the previous reviews suggested it was quite noisy, and we suspected these boys would be noisy - even if unintentional.

Booking was simple and a bargain. Mum was still slightly apprehensive about the site as we are used to family friendly sites in rural locations! We arrived around 2pm, check in was simple and off we headed towards the woods.

Some caravans we passed were quite old. As early arrivals we chose a great spot near the back fence and were pleased it was so quiet We took the dog for a walk and returned to find a warden checking the boys had adults with them.

They had some golf practice, which they enjoyed. This warden patrolled on regular occasions. Around 5pm the tents began to arrive and were getting closer to one another, but our pitch was out the way.

Through the night, several families played loud music, shouting at each other so previous reviews seemed apt. However - although we didn't use all facilities (toilet blocks were clean and tidy) we had a good stay. The warden appeared the following morning, checking upon the campers. He was a nice bloke.

If you want to camp and party - this is the place to go. We would not come here with his younger brother (5) but overall a decent stay for a gang of 16 year olds, we only went to ensure their safety. No frills, no extras charged for gazebos, dogs, kids etc.

Great addition for them was a burger van on site until late. I do think Leisure Lakes are trying to improve the camping experience. Give the rowdy regulars some ground rules and things may improve.

On arrival the amenities looked good park for kids which we used, we pitched in the field which was not even or well kept not the woods.

The toilets weren't very clean and no and soap, the showers depending the time you went had a dribble of water!

On the second day a group of women with children pitched their tent nearly touching ours while we were out but we never saw them as they were in the pub all afternoon until 12. 40 at 1. 30am I asked them to be quiet as we had children sleeping and they were rude, someone else also spoke to them as not only were they rude so were the children but no warden around or contactable to stop them, the next day I complained about they and they are regulars and are known for doing this all the time but no one seems to care or stop them!

Just be warned any problems no one is around to help!

Bins overflowing but no one emptied them also no lights in the toilets at night time.

I would not recommend if you are going with children as not child friendly one bit.

This was the worst site we have ever been to, staff unhelpful we reported a group of women with kids who pitched there tent right behind our touching guide ropes but they weren't concerned as they were regulars.

Showers dirty and not powerful.

Would not advise anyone goes here unless your going to party at the on site pub!

Lovely, family friendly site. Helpful wardens and residents. Yes there is a deposit scheme for the toilet and laundry rooms and though a bit dated they serve their purpose and were clean and warm.

We didn't really use the playground area as the weather wasn't at its best but the children loved the open space to play and the fact we were allowed a campfire in the evenings.

Two of our party paid to fish in the lake and had no complaints about prices or fish. Transport into Southport is close by but a bit on the dear side.

Our only complaint was the little shop on site was not opened at all while we were there, apparently late May is not classed as high season.

A very reasonable priced site which we will visit again

Well if there is a caravan site category 'The Bronx' this would be. I would say a great site for a large group of adults who want to get together and let rip with no restriction but not too good for a family with small children. It gives the impression of a a site that was nice in the 50's that has since never had any real maintenance. It does seem to attract a very rough and rowdy crowd. The play area had all the needed facilities but was spoilt by the antics of unsupervised older children. The access to the slide was a ramp that ran straight under a zip wire. At one point a dog was running loose on the play park. The shabby crazy golf was not monitored properly and again other children were using it as a general play area, fortunately no dog at this point! I leant against a part of the fence which collapsed behind me due to the wood being rotten a further example of a long standing lack of maintenance of the park facilities.

The camping/caravan areas could be lovely as they are in semi wooded areas. There are hook ups but only 6 volt. However the grass is kept in a very rough and ready condition and there seems to be no limits on how people behave. One group had a chainsaw and were cutting off parts of trees for the very large unenclosed campfire (lots of groups had large open fires). No noise curfew as a result the chainsaw family decided to put their loud music on at 10. 00pm which was great for my trying to sleep 5 year old. Did not fancy asking a group with a chainsaw and alcohol flowing to turn it down though!

In keeping with the park tradition the one block of unmodernised toilets were left in awful condition by the users, I did not even bother looking at the showers as fortunately we were only there 2 nights to meet friends.

All in all I would say if a large group want to get together and have a good time with no restrictions ideal, but for a relaxing break with small children not ideal.

Very hard to leave a review about this place while adhering to the review tips! Where to begin. Website looks amazing and very expensive yet were surprised at the £12 rate without electric. We booked 3 nights and upon arrival, we were directed to the tenting section. We nearly turned around and fled! The website is NOT a true representation of this place at all. Facilities only operative at certain times and you CANNOT hire jet skis or MX bikes - it's a take your own and pay system. Anyhow, the whole place just looked untidy and ill maintained. We decided that as we hadn't yet paid (card facility wasn't available until next day) that we'd stay the night and see. I was right, everything - and I mean EVERYTHING was filthy and / or worn out. There are lots of seasonal vans (Hobby, Tabbart, Buccaneer and similar - draw your own conclusions. ) which were old, filthy and many damaged. Awnings were disgracefully dirty. Makeshift fence and decking (pallet wood and even laminate floor!) didn't help the overall look. The 'Phoenixville' Country and Western vans were EVEN WORSE than this, crammed in like a travellers' site nose to tail. That said, we had a nice, basic stay that night for our £12 in the woods (we did of course pay the next day). The kid's playground was okay (you must supervise) and the (strange) bar served nice Guiness at a good price. Staff were friendly. My wife and son had a horse ride session - again, staff great. Then came Friday and the weekend. OMG. The site became over-run with less than desirables. I'm no snob, but unless you're as rough as a badger's backside, steer clear. Upon returning from horse riding, someone pitched their caravan (complete with massive skull and crossbow stickers covering the windows) with its tail corner nearly touching our sun shade pole so that was to be our outlook from our deck chairs - he sat smirking and grinning between gulps of lager when we returned. He didn't look like a guy you could reason with, so we relocated. As the night progressed, it got worse. It got packed out chavvy families and groups of lads running their engines with sports exhausts so they could play loud music until all hours. After 3 hours of this I phoned the warden and in all fairness he had a word with them at 8pm. Half an hour later, and it was just as bad - and NO wardens left on site. This continued ALL through the night, with him revving the engine to max revs even at 3am. Dogs barked and howled ALL night. People drank and screamed abuse at each other ALL night until sunlight - then they carried on. A drunken, screaming female bashed on our motorhome at 2. 30am - thankfully no damage done. Camp fires burned ALL night (we observed laminate flooring, treated decking wood, plastic waste products AND freshly bulled down branches from trees being burned). The smell was noxious - unbearable. We watched people drinking Fosters for breakfast on Saturday morning! NOT an environment I wanted my son exposed to. We left. If you wonder where Frank from Shameless takes his holidays, it's probably here! If your just like him, you'll love this place! Had to rate overall 3 stars because we did enjoy some aspects and met some nice people and staff seemed alright enough, though you're on your own when the zombies play out at night!

Well I have been here a few times before this, and can see the problems that people have had especially with the 'Frank Gallaghers' etc.

The thing is, it is a semi residential site and that is where they probably make most of their money.

Facilities could and should be improved on this site, but I despair of some of the idiotic comments regarding the site and the people who use it.

Comment of the decade though goes to Vicks21 who's review included the statement 'The bar is full of people whose main priority is to drink'. Well I never, people going into a BAR to DRINK of all things, tut tut.

Well I wish they could explain to me the plethora of other activities you could do in a BAR. I honestly give in, it's Hyacinth Bucket syndrome.

This site is ok, yes a bit rough and ready at the moment, but fine for the non pretentious among us.

Upon arriving on site I was disappointed, nothing was clearly sign posted so finding your way to book in was not easy. Eventually found the warden to check us in and he told us to go an find a space in the woods, choose anywhere we liked as midweek it is not too busy.

Upon arriving in the woods, I had asked my husband to not un-hitch the caravan and to turn around and leave he persuaded me to stay the night as it was a little late to be looking for somewhere else to stay and I can honestly say I am so glad we stayed - We had a fantastic 2 nights stay.

The kids loved the playground in fact we couldn't get them to come off, there were pony rides for £1 and crazy golf £1 (we didn't play). The woods ended up being a great experience for the kids who loved the adventure, we even got to make a campfire which they were overjoyed at. There were tree swings everywhere which my girls loved.

A £10 deposit is required for the toilet key and the showers are operated with tokens available from reception, when we arrived (Wednesday) the toilets were filthy and this forced us to use the van toilet as none of my family would use the toilets, when I went to complain I was told that Wednesday was the cleaners day off, I went Thursday to check and they were very clean & stayed that way until we left.

We met some lovely people in the next van whom we will meet up with again when we most surely return to this campsite.

If you have children don't take light clothes; jeans and dark leggings / shorts are best & be prepared to take sand & mud (if weather bad) home with you.
