Looking at the reviews I could very easily have been put off this site. On arrival the office wasn't obvious but friendly staff guided us there.
There are two areas to camp, you have the woods or the family field next to the jet ski lake, we went in the woods even though with a family they advise to go in the field (as it is quieter), but except for the first night we thought it was fine, noise levels were not that bad - the kids certainly didn't lose any sleep.
The jet skis don't kick up til 10 a. M. And stop around 5 pm, so they don't disturb you at all, in fact they are quite awesome to watch. If you feel you want to have a go they hire them out and also do rides on them.
There are a couple of pub/bars, shop, a golf course, riding school. You really can do a lot here. The play area had my 3 and 7 year olds entertained for hours.
We picked probably the best weekend of the year to go weather wise and though the site was packed it was brilliant.
The toilet/shower block is a bit dated, but clean and we never had to queue up once.
All in all I will be going there again, a friendly site with loads for the kids (and adults) to do.

We visited this site over the bank holiday weekend, despite the 5 weeks of rain prior to our arrival, we found dry ground.
The facilities are basic but clean and well maintained. I was with my 2 boys aged 5 & 7 and didn't see them for most of the weekend, they were off in the playground and playing in the woods and river next to our pitch.
There is a well stocked shop on site and not over priced at all, they sell all the basics and more and staff we encountered were very friendly and welcoming.
The only minus was that the lights did not work in the toilet blocks at night BUT there was a light in the disabled toilet, it really wouldn't take much for them to install a sensor or timed light system.
Showers were also often cold, again a heat on demand rather than old style hot water cylinder would fix this too.
There are lots of extras you can pay to take part in, including donkey rides, paintball, etc and there is also a pub on site
Overall a great weekend of camping and would definitely go back there

If you are thinking of visiting this site I would ignore the negative reviews left last year in 2010. My husband and myself have a baby and a 5 year old and we loved the site and absolutely had a fantastic time.
The owners and staff are nothing but helpful, extremely friendly and bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. The toilets and shower block are cleaned twice a day.
Our 5 year old loved the children's play area, it kept him entertained for hours, fantastic for children and safe with sand on the floor.
My husband enjoyed the fishing on site and our 2 dogs enjoyed some long walks in the fields and around the lake-sides.
All in all there is something for everyone, it is a family site. There is entertainment in the pubs and numerous outdoor activities.
We're glad we ignored the negative reviews and gave this site a go, we are looking forward to returning this weekend for our next break.

I felt I had to leave a review on the leisure lakes as looking through there didn't seem to be one good review. We went there with friends for the weekend as our children visit with their bikes and are always on to us to stay there. We had read the reviews so were wary as to what to expect.
Yes I agree some of the vans are there are past their sell by date and the showers do need updating. The reception staff were really friendly and the man showed us to our pitch and again was helpful and friendly. The site itself just needs a bit of love and care and would be absolutely lovely.
There is plenty of room for tents and vans. Our children aged 12 and 13 absolutely loved it there are some ramps for them to use on their bmx's which kept them happy most of the day. A cafe on site and bar.
Jet skis use one of the lakes which are great to watch. The other lake is for fishing £6 per rod. My partner used the lake and said it is one of the best lakes we have visited and caught all day.
All in all we had a brilliant weekend there and will return again. We had no problems with loud music etc it was nice to be able to pitch where we wanted and have the chiminea lit and not feel like we were being watched.
All I can say is yes it isnt a camping and caravanning first class site but it you want a fun weekend go there

Went to visit this site last weekend, got there, look around, drove out, didn't even turn my engine off, never mind unhook the caravan!
It's such a shame because on paper it has everything, Golf, Motor Cross, Lakes, kids park and it's on a massive scale, in reality, it needs a good few quid spending on it, everything is scruffy, even the barrier to the place is snapped in half! all the roads are just dirt tracks with big potholes (not good for our car or van), I didn't see one member of staff
There seems to be two areas to pitch up, one down at the other end by the motor Cross which is basically a gravel car park with kids on small motor bikes with no helmets whizzing round and the other more populated area is nearer to the entrance.
We drove round the front area and it would seem that almost every van was a Hobby or a long German twin axle type van. Almost all of them had big awnings up but they were well weathered and had been up for months. A lot of them had multi-coloured wind brakes up and some even had decking and fencing too! As we drove round the residents of the vans were sat outside drinking beer, in big crowds and all turned to look at us :( felt really uncomfortable.

Masses of facilities on offer here, everything from jet skiing, equestrian centre, golf course, motor bikes, quadding track, play park to mention but a few, unfortunately every thing was dirty and I mean everything (all of the above and more). There was no hot water and the toilet block was grim. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful. Many campers live on site, or certainly spend lots of time there and many tents/caravans have seen better days. Lots of people getting VERY drunk and making lots and lots of noise until small hours (do not go here unless you are an alcoholic) and enjoy that sort of thing. Facilities excellent but not really the kind of environment I really want my child in.

Just got back from a weekend here, where do I start. We had to leave the camp site at 11.30pm due to the fact that some of the camp fires had turned into bonfire's and we felt it was totally unsafe, we had 5 children between me my husband and my sister-in-law and had to get them out of bed to return home. The car's and tents smell very smoky.
There is a lot of facilities on site motor-cross bikes, paint balling, jet skis, cafe, park etc!
The toilets are in such a state even when claimed to be cleaned they didn't have lights, so in the evening we had to use the disabled toilet as that has one, the showers are just as bad.

This is a site that I have visited many times but unfortunately each time I say I wont go back as it has got worse each year. We return as other family insist it is there only choice. This year we will not return nor in the future.
It is a shame as this site is in a great location for southport and has massive potential. It used to be quite nice as it has a great play area and decent toilet and shower facilities. It is also on a lake but not dangerously so for children.
You can camp in the wood or in a field. On our first visit we were told that because we didn't have kids we were not able to stay as it is a family site but we explained we just wanted a quiet weekend away and had no music or alcohol. This lead us to think it would be quiet and it was then but now it has changed.
There is a jet ski club on site so flash loud cars roar through the site night and day.
There is a golf club on site but this is not part of the campsite. It is full of flashy cars and people not wanting to see or hear the campers.
There is a static caravan running lots of money making exploits (bouncy castle, go cart, crazy golf) this is very scruffy and the people who run it are loud.
The bar is full of people whose main priority is to drink.
The play area is full of unsupervised children (parents in bar) so is unsafe.
What start as BBQ's end late as bonfires.
It feels unsafe and unclean now
A shame as I imagine there are people out there with happy memories of this site before it's decline.
This is not a cheap site to stay at anymore either.

Just back from our weekend(2 adults and 4 kids-3,5,11,12)
Will never go back again!
Place can be more suitable for young people or who prefer noise weekends.
We found just one positive thing on this site-kids play ground, but even there kids must be supervised at all the time.
Didnt feel safe to leave tent unsupervised. People around drinking all day and night, fires, litter everywhere around the site, staff- if you don't ask, they wont say anything.
I wouldn't recommend this site for families with kids, who like to spend nice weekends.

This is a very large site, with plenty of space. As a cyclist with tent, I had an area of about 4 football pitches to choose from.
All of the staff I met were extremely friendly and helpful.
The facilities are convenient and clean, although I struggled to find anything to indicate which taps were / were not drinking water.
There are plenty of facilities - shop, cafe, etc. I didn't visit them, so can't comment.
On the down side:
- The site, like most locations in this area are very exposed. The constant wind off the sea make camping unpleasant.
- The Reception doesn't open until 9am, so for a cyclists and walkers who need an early start, this could be a problem.
- At £17 per night for a 6ftx4ft tent plus bicycle makes this the most expensive site I have ever visited. Given the limited choice of campsites in this area, a cheap B&B might be considered better value for many.
