Myself, 2 other mums and 7 young boys went to Leisure Lakes August bank holiday weekend.

The good points:- The site has a great lake for jet skis (which were £5 for 3 laps of the lake being driven by staff- kids sit on the front or back) and a smaller fishing lake. The kids park area was well equipped. We went to one of the pubs on site and found they were quite reasonable, we also tried the cafe which was nice too.

The bad points:- As soon as we arrived we were lost, its a huge site and there were no directions, sign posts, or map given to where everything was, and what facilities they had to offer. With us being in tents, we headed for the wooded area, which was jam packed full, not enough room to put up one tent let alone 2 large tents and 3 cars, so headed for the main field instead. The field itself nearly wrecked my cars suspension and was thick in mud at the entrance. We managed to find some more even ground and pitched up.

Later decided to go for a shower, and when we eventually found it, we were soon made aware we needed to have bought a key for a £10 deposit just to get in the shower block, and also needed to buy tokens for the shower from the 'shop'. After entering the shower block, we were astounded to find there were only 3 shower cubicles for the entire site! We couldn't believe how dirty the shower block was.The shower itself was stone cold, and the floor in the cubicles were even worse.

I needed the loo at about 10pm so had a trek to the toilet block. The floor was full of rubbish and fag ends, and not one of the several cubicles had loo roll. I had to get some from the gents. The sink area again was full of fag ends and dirty toilet roll. Not once in the 3 days we were there did we see a cleaner, or any improvement in the cleanliness of the toilets or the shower block.

On the 2nd night, one group of girls staying together were screaming and shouting being verbally abusive till 4.30am. We tried to report this by contacting the site office as soon as it started at 11pm but got no answer. No sign of a warden or security all weekend. We all want a drink or 3 when we're on holiday but this group really made sure no-one got any sleep that night. We all couldn't wait till we got home.

We stayed here over the easter weekend and was in 3 tents. The site is ok with good facilities on, park, lazer shooting, paintball, watersports. All seemed reasonably priced, the shop was the lady in the office with multipacks from various big stores separated and sold, but very cheap so you didn't mind! showers well, it took me 2 days to finally be able to buy a shower token has they are like gold dust(+60p) old fashioned but warm and not bad size, adequate toilets never had to que.
The pub on site featured a country+western feel with many people dressed up, we never used it.
In all the camp was £12 per night and you get what you pay for! we just wanted somewhere to try our new tent and unwind. You can have campfire at your tent side which is good. Did hear some nise from other campers but was all quiet by midnight.
we would use this site again for a cheap break although a bit tacky it had a good atmosphere to it!

We arrived Friday evening and found the site almost full. In the main the site is home to 'static' touring caravans with their pitches marked out with cheap windshields of all colours. The toilet/shower facilities are purportedly cleaned twice per day, I would ask myself where? The shower tiles are black instead of terracotta, the toilet seats weren't touched the whole weekend we were there. The showers are 60p and cold, one site user told us you had to have your shower at 7am to catch the hot water. Children are allowed to run all over the site facilities using their parent's pass key, willy nilly.

There seemed to be a shortage of electrical points, most of those there being used by the 'static' caravans. There were groups of people in caravans and tents, having large parties with lots of alcohol being consumed. Its noisy, with music playing, dogs barking and howling and people shouting all day. Not family orientated site at all. To cap it all Friday evening the on site bar is in full swing, at some ungodly hour we were woken by a large group of people arguing and fighting, as you would expect a lot of bad language was used. On both nights there were vehicles coming on and going off the site in the very early hours of the morning. The only good side of the Leisure Lakes complex is nothing to do with the camping site per se, and that's the children's play area and the cafe, which is clean and reasonably priced. There were several people in the office so I don't actually know who the site warden was, but although pleasant enough, did not seem approachable or helpful.

The site has such potential it is a pity its not being fulfilled. Just the removal of the windshields and scruffy fencing and erection of a uniform alternative light fencing around the caravans would make a huge difference. A power wash used on the facilities would make a huge difference.

The nearest shops are a few miles towards Southport or Burscough. The nearest pub is a few yards from the main gateway. Southport is a lovely town to visit.

I use this campsite a lot for the following reasons, country and western club which is great, play area is fantastic my grandchildren love it. Son inlaw loves fishing on the lakes which is on the campsite. The cafe is nice and is reasonable with prices and very clean. The rates for the pitches are cheap, £15 pound for a caravan and £12 pound for a tent whatever size you want. You can have campfires outside the tent. Showers are clean but you do have to pay for the showers but only 60p.

The staff are lovely and are very helpful at all times. I cant fault it.

A very busy site with noisy campers. We were packed in so close we could hear the whole history of the family next door. Facilities were ok but we were so short of sleep we left after 3 days. Nice area and as we spent time with family we did enjoy it but its not a site for the quieter camper.

Arrived for a 3 night stay on Friday dinner time over the Easter weekend. The electric hook up was a big let down you could not use a kettle or light together as the site as a very low voltage which was a nightmare when the electric trip out and you had to go out and switch the trip switch back on.
Showers cost 60p and was freezing cold. Nice playing park, my grandchildren loved it.
For the price I paid with it being a bank holiday it was good value for money

We stayed here whilst attending the Phoenix Rebels Country & Western Club that are based in the Clubhouse, never again.I can only say that in our eyes this is 'the caravan site from hell' if you wonder where the 'Brits on the p.S go to when they are not abroad, the answer is HERE!

The club have an ongoing security problem with the mindless morons who stay at the site and once you return to your unit you have to put up with Loud music, shouting and foul language until 2 or 3 in the morning. I suppose the owners are happily counting the money without concern for the welfare of normal caravanners/campers.

We arrived on a Friday evening to find that most of the tent pitches had been taken. They were packed in like sardines. We thought we found a place and was advised by a nearby camper that there was a wasps nest and not to go there as a three year old had been stung the day before and had to leave. So we found what we thought was a good spot a trek away from the toilets though. Oh boy was I in for a shock all night people party even though there is supposed to be a midnight curfew,. One night for a first time camper is not the best review so we are going to go back again another weekend at my husbands request oh joy ! maybe it was a bad time just before all the kids go back to school. When handing back the key it was said that the revellers where to be told to go. I later found out that they were still there on the saturday afternoon, good luck to those staying a week with the good morning vietnam crew.

On a positive note the staff are friendly and helpful, the play area is fantastic I even had a little go myself. Watching the jet skis was fascinating and I didn't get to do much else because my 15 year old was tired and moody, all in all we will be back to try again.

The only nice thing I could say about my stay at the Leisure Lakes is that on the Friday when we arrived we did have pick of the camp and chose a lovely spot by the lake. We went out for the morning on Saturday and when we returned our tent had been encased as there was no structure and people could more or less camp where they want. Groups of large familes who were there just to get drunk ruined our stay as they stayed up until 3am playing loud music. Compared to other camp sites the facilities were not great apart from the play area which was good but a lot of the parents had left their children there to run wild whilst they went into the club on site.

Just spent a weekend at Leisure Lakes. Showers lovely and hot. Closed for an hour in the morning and afternoon for cleaning, so if you are at the top of the campsite, it is a bit of a trek to the loos, but not a problem. Friday night spoilt by a few families having a major argument until silly o`clock in the morning. But they all left Saturday morning after a visit from the warden. Nice campsite if you like a fair bit of noise.
Roads get a bit water logged when raining, but the pitches under the trees were still great. Great for going away with friends, but if you want a quiet weekend this campsite would not be my choice.Ps nearby Southport shopping fantastic.
