Just returned from couple of days at this site with our folding camper, and thought I'd give a short review to add to what has already been said. Since there isn't a recent review. It was chosen as much for it's ease of access, being just of the A46, as we were really just using it to stay whilst visiting the Scampton Airshow
To confirm, it does now have a nice new shower block (6 showers I think, plus some wash basins). We didn't use them but they looked nice and seemed heated.
Other than that it seems pretty much as other reviews have described it.
Personally I find the main site field a little bland and characterless. Flat open, very much a caravan site really, with a lot of vans, nicely lined up. Pitches seemed of a decent size. It's neat and tidy and well kept. The facilities were always clean.
However, we didn't need EHU, so we had the option of going into the 'small' rally field, just through the main site. This is probably about the same size and the main site field, but we had to share it with a grand total of 1 other caravan and a group of 2 families in a couple of tents. This much more suited our style of camping, and it was a lovely spot.
There is also a small non hookup area in the corner of the main site field as well, near the lake
It was a bit more of a walk to the toilets (depending on which side you went), but no problem.
They still only have the one tap though. Not so bad with an Aquaroll, would be more of pain if you were carrying the water by hand. More water points really would be an improvement.
There is definite road noise as well, I certainly could hear it at night, though it wasn't load enough to cause us a problem.

Lovely site, flat and spacious, Great position for Lincoln, Newark, and 15 mins A1, 5 mins from A46. The warden was very friendly,
Although we all fish, we didn't this time as the £9 each was to expensive for all of us.
But I heard someone saying it's £9 to fish and £3. 50 for someone to sit and watch. £3. 50 Why on earth do they charge for a spouse to watch.

We stay 3 nights.
Family weekend 1 caravan and 2 tents, the site is level, and the 4 children enjoyed themselves in the play area and the woodland, there is also a Fishing lake.
Toilets always clean and tidy, only 2 showers.
GOOD NEWS a New shower block in construction.
Will have to try them out next time.
Staff very friendly

Having read the previous reviews, I regard them as fair in content and in opinion. This site has immense potential with acres of flat grassed land, well mown and easily accessed.
The downside of the lack of facilities is, I am told, being addressed with planning permission having been granted for a new block alongside the existing one.
I'm told that the electricity supply has recently been upgraded to avoid tripping at times of high usage. I am surprised that there is only one water point for the whole site meaning quite a trail for occupants of the far flung pitches not to mention those in the adjacent field.
I'd recommend some extra taps, placed around the edge of the field to help those with heavy barrels. There was no specific motorhome service area to be found so we had to bring our grey water home with us. I would imagine that in summer months, the well equipped children's play areas and fishing lake provide enormous pleasure for visitors and the outlying paths prove enjoyable for walkers.
The welcome from the wardens was beyond warmth - it seemed as though we were being greeted as old friends. Security is by a card operated barrier with an outer gate being locked late at night for peace of mind.
In all, a super site but for the odd omissions.

The site was surprisingly quiet - the first weekend of the school holidays and we were the only group on the Friday night. So our kids had lots of space.
The play area is great and they had hours of fun in the 'giant hammock' in the trees. The toilet block is very small with only a couple of unisex showers. It wasn't a problem whilst we were there but would be if the site were busy.
The lake alongside the campsite was beautiful and a nice place to take a walk and picnic. The fishermen didn't seem bothered that their peace was broken by a chatty toddler!
We had a great weekend and will visit this site again.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed by Oakhill Leisure.
Firstly, it's primarily a caravan site, most of which appear to be long term stays (the length of the grass around the vans is a give away).
This would be fine in itself, however due to the sheer volume of caravans they have made the ground rock solid for their benefit. This means that for us campers the site is like a death sentence for pegs.
Secondly, for the whole site there are two showers. Not each sex, but two showers. Again, I guess as most of their visitors are in caravans this might not be a problem, but for campers it was a real issue with long queues both mornings. And because you knew people were waiting I always felt I had to rush.
Regular visitors were treated like old friends, whereas when I had a minor issue with the car barrier - though not fault of my own it should be added - I was made to feel like an inconvenience.

Unfortunately this site did not live up to the expectations set by the website. There were only 2 showers for the whole site and 6 toilets (3 each for men and women).
This is not nearly enough at the best of times but with it being the Waddington Airshow weekend and the overflow field being occupied by at least another 40 tents/caravans, with no additional facilities, it was a nightmare.
Trying to get a shower was difficult to say the least, not helped by them being cleaned at 9. 15 am a time when they were still very much in demand. Unfortunately we were pitched near the shower/toilet block and people were still queuing to use the showers and washing up rooms at 10. 45 pm on Sat night.
On a positive note the toilets/showers were kept clean despite the décor being very tired. The staff were friendly and helpful.

This was a wonderful stay even though it was waddington weekend (which always very busy).
Well what can I say everything was great, the warden I think her name was Pat and her assistant were both very helpful.
We were in the rally field and the warden even came round late evening to see if we were all okay and didn't need any help or assistance in any way, nothing seem to be too much bother.
The site was kept very clean and tidy despite the amount of people there, this may have been to they gave us bags for our rubbish, which was collected by a man in the morning on a golf buggy- he again was very helpful!
The toilet block is in the main touring feild and we felt it would have been easier if there were more facilities as had to queue for showers, of which there is only two!
This is a hidden gem and is in unspoilt countryside, the lake and woods are great for an evening stroll
Hope to be back soon!

There are some good and bad points to this site
Pros
Pleasant location some nice woodland around for dog walks and away from roads for children.
Toilets are clean and well maintained - no waiting on our visit but could be busy peak times.
Does have electric hookup for tents
Nice lake at side but beware you have to be over 16 to fish without an adult.
Nice playground for children.
Other people have said you could hear the road but I never did.
Cons
This site is mostly for people with long stay pitches so all the best pitches are gone.
The site seem to be built on a gravel layer, nearly all our tent pegs even the steel ones were unusable afterwards.
One of our dogs was not on a lead but within 3ft of tent and the warden came up and was actually shouting at us, and was very rude, she was aggressive (we were not rude at all) when a polite word would have been fine, the next day we were joined by the owners dog who was running free (nice dog)!
Water was only available from toilet block that was a fair walk.
Site was windy and we were told by others, that it often is, this was an issue as pegs would not go fully in ground.

Spent 2 nights at oakhill in small tent with my son. What a lovely peaceful spot. The site was not very busy so we had the pick of anywhere in a large field.
Site was level with a mix of motorhomes caravans and longterm caravans.
The reception had a small shop for icecreams, but there are local shops a few minutes away.
The site has a security barrier which is card operated. The facilities were always clean.
There is a fishing lake on site, that we didn't use, and woods, great for walking and cycling.
There is plenty of space for football and games and a good size play area with climbing equipment etc.
will be using this site again.
