We had to cancel our trip to this site due to the bad weather at easter, the owner was so helpful and rebooked us in for the half term holiday. The site is in the most wonderful location and the hampers for campers is a fantastic idea, the fruit cake is highly recommended. The shower block was clean with plenty of hot water and never very busy.

There is a footpath from the site to edale village which has 2 pubs and a nice cafe and visitor centre with toilets, the walk to edale is spectacular with amazing views. Please keep dogs on leads at all times though as you will meet plenty of sheep! Jacobs ladder is a mile walk' away, good footpaths and more wonderful scenery. Its a short drive to castle ton which has peveril castle to visit and plenty of gift shops, cafes, pubs and food supply shops.

We had a fabulous time at this site, it is great for families with young children or dog owners who enjoy a good walk. There was no regimental rules and everyone was left to just pitch where they wanted to, check in was organized and the owners are friendly. If you don't mind doing without electric this is a fantastic site.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Upper Booth. Very easy to find, well off the beaten track. 2 fields for camping, though the bottom field was designated for D of E groups during our stay. The top field is slightly sloping, but you pick your own pitch! A stream runs at the bottom of the hill, great for the children to play in. Great to have a campsite that is just for tents.

The shower and toilet block is situated in between both camping fields. There were 2 toilets, 2 showers and 3 basins in the ladies. Really not enough for the number of people who were camping over the Bank Holiday weekend and weren't the cleanest they could have been. Not helped by lots of muddy boots tramping through them, despite notices asking boots to be left outside. Plenty of hot water at all times, but queues no matter what time of the day for the loo/shower and basins.

Can recommend the Bulls Head in Castleton and the Penny Pot cafe in Edale.

All in all a good site with amazing views, walks straight from the campsite and plenty of space for the children to play/explore.

We picked this site on reviews and were not disapointed! Lovely to have a campsite just for tents and without electric hook up. Arrived with 4 children under 8, it was easy to find from the instructions and checked in without any problems.

The toilet and shower block is great, heated, very clean and lovely showers, plenty of space about. The washing up area is undercover and very easy to use.

The top field is slopping and you can camp where you like, but even though it was August it wasn't over full. The bottom field is flatter and more sheltered, when we visit again, I will be staying on this field.

Older children will love heading down the bank to the stream which is great for playing in. The large area left in the middle was lovely for ball games.

Great family site, and for couples. It was nice and quiet and a very well run site. Would certainly head there again.

£24 a night for 6 of us with car, so not badly priced for the excellent facilities.

Not much on the door step, so make sure you bring your supplies with you, the nearest supermarket is in Chaple-le-frith. We did a great little walk from Hope to Castleton and back, with ice creams on route to keep little legs going. The castles look good in Castleton but we didn't visit. Can't comment on local pubs etc as ours were in bed! Shattered from the outdoor play.

If you like commercial facilities this is not the site for you, if you like camping in the beautiful countryside it is! There was no playarea or the likes, but we had 4 children aged 2, 3, 4 and 8 and they were not fed up, just enjoyed playing games, hide and seek, splashing in the river and getting adventurous. No mobile phone reception ensured I got the rest from the work!

Just returned from a lovely break with my son here. We were backpacking, and while the walk from the train station is over a mile it's a pleasant one.

There are a number of interesting footpaths including the pennine way leading directly from the campsite, so getting to a nice walk with kids is easy. Some of the walks are harder but some easy enough with children.

The new toilet block is lovely, nice hot showers at any time. The owners are friendly but left us to our own devices unless we needed help.

Things to be aware of, trains are only every two hours, and booking in on the suite is after 3pm.

This is a great campsite- the new toilet block is now OPEN and is very lovely! Very clean and modern and even better- didn't seem to affect the price of the pitch.

We found the owners very helpful (they very happily gave us a jump start in the morning after leaving a door open for to long) and the price very reasonable- especially after the realised our children (ages 2 and 9 months) didn't really count and knocked them off the cost!)

A very beautiful site with lovely views, great walks straight out the gate.

Will be returning as soon as the weather improves.

A beautiful, peaceful site surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in England. Great walk up Jacob's Ladder to the rock gardens at Clough rocks.

As others mention, the new toilet/washblock facilities are coming along nicely. Will be an excellent addition to the site, although the current facilities are adequate (only 1 shower to share for everyone. But powerful and never been cold for me).

Flat pitches for larger tents are few and far between. So be prepared for some incline, bring a smaller tent. Or get there early to bag a prime spot.

The produce available (esp 'Hampers for Campers'!) is excellent and a convenience.

2 mile walk to the pub. But why would you go there with the stream, woods and hills on your doorstep. Bring supplies and a comfy chair. You won't want to move!

I have just returned from Upper Booth (Boy was it HOT( and as usual really enjoyed the environment, beautiful place.

Update on the new facilities being built. So far looks good. The new toilet block is around a third complete I would say. It is faced in stone in keeping with the surroundings and is from what I can see going to be semi circular in design.

A lot of thought has obviously been put into it as well as quite an investment. Handy place to put it too between the two camping fields.

We enjoyed cool refreshing drinks at the kitchen cafe and ice cream from the barn. Mostly I sat under a tree enjoying the magnificent views or photographing the surroundings. It was very quiet and to sit in the shade of the trees along the stream stream was pure joy.

I decided on Upper Booth Farm as my get away from it all short stay based on previous reviews. The site was easy to find following the instructions from their website. The signage is clear, but not over the top to detract from the surroundings. I checked in and was shown where the facilities were by a very pleasant young lady.

I drove up and chose a pitch. The site has two fields, a small field with no vehicle access for back packers, or people who don't mind walking the short distance to the parking area. This field is right next to the toilet block. But the new facilities are being built at the moment and look very promising and are situated between the two fields.

The top field has very good access for cars and if you get there early, you have great pickings over where to pitch. The site owners never over-fill the site, so there'll never be too many people around. There are plenty of flat pitches around the field, some at the top and more at the bottom of the field with a slope between the two. The toilet block is a fair old walk from the top field, but with the new block being built, this will be addressed.

It was very windy the night I stopped and had little sleep, reading other reviews, it seems to be a running theme, so make sure you have good tent pegs (the ground is great though, easy to pitch).

Overall, a great site and the sort of camper it attracts make for a very quiet stay, with only the new lambs breaking the silence and tranquillity. Value for money, spot on for the area, let's see how much it will go up to when the new block opens.

Only bits of info that people may be useful, as I didn't know: Check in after 3:00pm and leave by 12:00 noon. May sound obvious, but I didn't know and turned up at 12:00 noon.

Would I return? you try stop me!

This was our fourth visit here and the standards have always been consistent.

When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from the Helliwells. Booking in was easy as there is now a sign pointing the way to the Reception/Farmhouse back door. We collected our Hampers for Campers(you can order food for collection) and went to pitch.

There are two fields for tents. The one nearest the farm has a slight slope. Cars are not allowed on here but you don't have far to carry your equipment. The main field slopes in the middle but around the edges are some very good flat pitches. Even though the signs were up saying site full and there were two school groups staying there at the same time as us, there was plenty of space. And there was no problem with noise at all.

As mentioned before the facilities are basic but adequate. They were always clean and stocked with toilet paper.

The area is beautiful with lots for walkers and mountain bikers to do. The nearest shops are in Hope(Spar & a Deli) also in Hathersage. Also the site sells basics and sell bacon sandwiches, etc for breakfast at weekends. They also do afternoon teas/cakes and ice-creams. The site is 30mins from the centre of Sheffield. I can see why this site is listed in Cool Camping and The Rough Guide to Camping. It is a back to basics campsite in some very beautiful countryside.

I found this campsite at the top of most searches on the internet based on locations around Castleton and Edale.

Very easy to book but on arrival there were no clear signposts to tell you where to book in and no sign on the door where you need to knock but after asking a couple of people, we were sorted.

The campsite is very open with some tree coverage to one side but bare in mind that it is near a running stream so for those that don't like constant noise during the night, I recommend you pitch on the opposite side. Also bare in mind that the only space we could find to pitch was on a slope as we arrived around 8pm so if you want a good pitch, get there earlier!

Facilities were very basic. 2 toilets for women and 2 for men and 1 shower where the hot water runs out after about 2 people so if you want a nice hot shower, go at an odd time. Either very early in the morning, mid afternoon when no ones about or late at night. The toilet block was very smelly though which was a bit off putting but the price of the campsite was reasonable so it balanced off.

As I stayed at the weekend, for anyone wanting an easy breakfast, the farm house offers different breakfast sandwiches and fresh bread at reasonable prices.

With the location not far from Edale, Hope and Castleton, this provided great access to Speedwell and Blue John Caverns but unless you're in for a fair old uphill walk or bike, you may want to look at something a bit further uphill as you are near enough at the bottom of the valley.

Overall, the location was fantastic. Lots of places to walk and bike to and plenty of photo opportunities. I'd recommended this campsite for a short stay, maybe just a weekend or a couple of nights.
