I have used this campsite many times over the past ten years and have every intention of many more visits.
This is a very basic site but provides adequate facilities to get by.
On arrival go to the green door at the side of the house. Mrs Halliwell is very friendly but tends to leave you to your own devises.
The drinking water tap is adjacent to that door. The toilet block is directly opposite offering male and female toilets, washing up sink and just the one shower. I found them quite clean no matter what time of year I go.
There are two fields for tents. The one nearest the farm is slightly sloping. Cars are not allowed on here but you wont have far to carry your gear.
The top field is pretty rough. But around the edges are some very good flat pitches.
In the main this is a fairly quiet site but I have experienced two occasions where inconsiderate campers revel into the wee hours.
On one occasion I left a day early as the place was swamped with secondary age kids on a camping trip. Modern education must have more Fs and Bs in the curriculum than in my day.
No fault of the site owners of course.
Nearest pub grub is in Edale, a 25 minute walk across the fields which includes some great views.
Great access to Kinder Scout and Castleton 10 minutes by car.

My wife, the four legged child and I spent a very pleasant weekend here spoilt only by the late season attack clouds of wasps, this I know had nothing to do with the site and therefore have not included that in my thinking.
This is one of the nicest sites we have visited in the Peak, yes the toilets are basic, but, the setting more than made up for it (along with the wonderful ice cream on sale from the farmyard) and the dog, like myself.
Absolutely loved having the stream nearby (him more than me for the recklessly diving in splashing about part and me for the running water sound I love to hear in the background watching the late summer sun setting behind the magnificent green hillscape).
All in all a great stay and a wonderfully quaint little site which from what we could tell was filled with really nice helpful people, but then again, that's proper campers for you.

After an unforgivable gap of four years, returned to Upper Booth Farm with a couple of friends for a few nights in July.
I don't imagine my review will differ from too many of the others (or indeed my own report from 2005). If you're looking for a games room, swimming pool and a tumble drier, walk away now. The facilities are very basic. If you're looking for a stunning location (at a reasonable price), then this has to be worth considering!
The walks up to Kinder Scout are superb. Our favourite this time. We headed east from the campsite, along the Pennine Way back to its start point opposite The Old Nags Head in Edale. From there we followed the path up Grindsbrook Clough - the views over the Vale of Edale are stunning! At the top we detoured to Grindslow Knoll for yet more stunning views, before heading west for the top of Crowden Brook and then back down to the campsite.
I'll be back!

This is set in an outstandingly beautiful area with great walks from the site. The site itself is very peaceful and it is lovely to be surrounded by such glorious hills. However the site has very basic facilities:- 4 loos and 1 shower for the whole site. The supply of hot water is very limited; if you want a hot shower be prepared to get up at 6am or earlier, or when most people are offsite in the middle of the day. There was at times a smell around the toilet block. There are no laundry facilities, though the owner did offer the use of her own machine. The pitches were in fields that had not been mown.
Local villages are charming and the local people very friendly and helpful. Road signs not always helpful so remember your GPS or map.

What an amazing setting. Hills all around. Views prob best from top of top field. Stream audible throughout the site
It looks quite sloped, but there are many flat pitches to choose from.
2 men's loos 2 women's. Regularly cleaned, women's were nicer for longer! 1 shower, but max we had to queue was one person ahead in queue while 1 person showered. Limited hot water due to location-never a problem with the shower, but occasionally no hot water for washing up. Boiling a kettle in advance solves this!
Lovely owners, couldn't have been more helpful.
Warning: There is no mobile phone signal on site or in a large proportion of the Edale area. Careful planning / alternative communication arrangements when walking /biking advised.
Disabled info: there are 2 steps into the men's loos and 1 into the shower area and 1 from this into the ladies loos. Access to the loo block from the top field is via the gravel farm track-not too deep gravel, but lots of ruts as is expected on a working farm. Tourist info in Edale are not clued up-worth speaking to site owners for 'walk' suggestions. Highly recommend the handcycle hire at parsley hay (derwent reservoir has a powered version too, ashbourne have a scooter)

This is a very basic site in a fantastic location.
If you want first rate facilities then this site may not be for you. However, for me the walk along the final section of the Pennines Way to the pub in Edale makes it all worthwhile. You obviously don't need to stay at the campsite to appreciate this, and I probably wouldn't want to be here when it was busy - however catch Upper Booth at a quiet time & it's hard to beat in terms of views & peace and quiet.
The best pitches are down by the stream - but you can't take cars down there. Worth the effort though.

Just had a wonderful holiday camping at upper booth .
I found the camp site via search facity here and found the reviews were all correct.
It's a lovely site with gorgeous views
Has basic facilities but hey isn't that what camping is all about ??
Prices were very reasonable though so made up for lack of facilities.
Never saw the owners other than when I booked in but as I have no need to contact them was nice to be left alone.
My only criticism of the area was the food was quite expensive and not many good shops mainly tea rooms would have been nice to have more browsing shops.
All in all I would highly recommend and will be returning soon as though I got lost up the top of kinder scout I now have the hill walking bug.

This is the first campsite that I've stayed on which is basically a farmer who's given a couple of fields over to campers, so I've probably been spoiled by custom-built sites. I say this because I'm in two minds with the review.
The location of the site is absolutely stunning, you couldn't wish for any better. Mountains all around you, a brook babbling past, cockerels roaming the fields and the sound of sheep nearby. All lovely. The farmer seemed very nice too. You can buy supplies from the farmhouse, including disposable BBQs, food, etc. At weekends and Bank Holidays between certain times you can also purchase things like bacon rolls, sausage rolls, etc. We didn't take advantage of this as we had our own cooking equipment so it's nice to know the option is there.
On arrival we couldn't immediately find where we were supposed to pay, think this should be better signposted. After sorting that out, we went to pitch the tent. Unfortunately as the site is fairly exposed we did have serious problems pitching the tent but a couple of people came to our rescue - if you're reading this, thank you! Got it sorted eventually though and the tent stayed up - just!
Anyway, my only real complaint is the toilet block. It's very small and didn't smell very nice, there is just a single shower for the whole site, which I suppose isn't too bad at this time of year but I imagine is bad in the middle of summer. Particularly as the hot water is very limited. There are two toilet cubicles for men and for women, and some washing up sinks - all very small and basic and could have done with some TLC. As I say though, I think I've been spoilt with spectacular loo blocks and these are perfectly adequate if you're just staying a couple of nights. But prepare to queue for everything and probably have a cold shower.
The pros and cons weigh up. The location is perfect if you're exploring Kinder Scout and the Pennine Way, you're also not far from Mam Tor and Castleton. There's no shortage of things to do, a couple of pubs and shops in Edale, and quite a few pubs in Castleton. Absolutely fabulous area, and despite my misgivings about the toilet block I would come back to this site.

If you desire: spectacular views, peace and quiet (apart from lambs, hens & owls), no touring caravans / electric hook ups / TVs etc, 2 mile (ish) walk to Nags Head in Edale, fresh local produce, safe environment for children to explore, a warm welcome then this is for you.
I'm loath to write this review as it may attract more campers.
As far as I'm concerned this is one of the Peak District's best secrets and probably my favourite UK site.
Even when cold and wet, I'm still in paradise.

Well what can I say ?
We have just come back from our first and most certainly not our last stay at this wonderful site.
On arrival we couldn't find anyone to book us in or say where we should pitch so we chose a pitch for ourselves.
At first we were surprised at this but then remembered this was a working farm and everyone would be busy not sitting about waiting for visitors, we found the owner later and let them know we were there and paid our bill.
The site, well maintained, spotlessly clean, obviously very well run, basic but with views to make even the most ardent city dweller wonder if they will ever want to go home to the microwave again.
I noticed that one reviewer mentioned the lack of electric hookups well if the need for the sandwich toaster and coffee maker are so uppermost in their thoughts perhaps this might not be the site for them, but if you want a no nonsense beautifully situated place to call home for a few days then you found it right here.
The site is close enough to the start of the Pennine way and routes to both Kinder and Mam Tor as well as many other local circular walks.
The walk to Edale either along the road or over the lowlands is worth the effort for the Nags Head and its wonderful beer and reasonable food.
All in all a gem of a site worth a mention in despatches and a place in our top ten favourites.
