This site had the most stunning views that I have ever experienced on a campsite. It is a beautiful and tranquil place with plenty of room for the pitches even when full. It is a quiet site after 10.30 and people respected that.
The site is on a working farm with lovely Swaledale sheep and some pretty chickens wandering around. The farmhouse and other buildings are very attractive.
Some of the pitches slope slightly but it is not a major problem. The small field near the toilet block is flatter, but don't pitch too close to the loos as sometimes they can smell. (the owners have been trying to sort this out for some time)
It can be very windy in this area and although the site has some trees around the perimeter we experienced a very windy night that was quite alarming. The wind kept changing directions and we had to take our tarp down for safety. However the other 5 nights were not anything like that.
The toilet facilities are very basic. Two cubicles for each gender with a wash basin and washing up sink. The single shower and additional washing up sink are in a lobby at the entrance to the ladies loo. My husband and teenage daughter did not really like the shower. The actual toilets and sinks were kept clean and there was plenty of toilet paper, but the toilets are very rustic. The floor is concrete which doesn't show the mud too much. Don't look at the ceiling in the loos unless you love cobwebs and dead insects!
There are excellent walks from the site including kinder scout for the hardier and Edale is an easy stroll at 1 1/4 miles.
There are interesting caves to visit at Castleton.
We highly recommend this site and will return someday.

Fantastic, it was my first time camping for many years and wasnt sure what to expect, but it was perfect. The scenery was amazing with plenty of options to choose from for walking. Site was very quiet and even though it was fully booked wasnt at all over crowded. Toilets and shower were basic but its a camp site not the Ritz so thats to be expected. Over all a fantastic site, situated in a beautiful location. Only thing I would recommend is detailed directions as it is not very well signposted so a bit of a nightmare to find.

This is one of those sites that you don't want to tell everyone about - rather keep it to ourselves. Agree with most of what everyone else has said - beautiful location, kids loved the stream (which is fenced so relatively safe for little people), scenery absolutely everywhere and more sheep than people. We stayed over half term , and even though the full sign went up, it felt very spacious and peaceful. Field is a bit sloping - pot luck as to whether you can get your table flat enough to keep your wine from sliding off. My advice is drink it quickly. We weren't very lucky with the shower; it was either in use or lukewarm; Owners were quite elusive, when we arrived there was no-one around, so we just pitched where we thought was best. We did manage to buy milk a couple of times. Would definitely return. Places to go - loved Castleton and walked up Cave Dale. Also did Kinder Scout - kids loved rocks/caves at top and the scramble down the river to Edale. Had dinner in the Nags Head - lovely food, atmosphere and roaring fire (ideal to dry off those very wet coats!) Matlock Bath - aquarium and hologram collection in old baths was good and only £10 for a family of 4; Heights of Abraham cable cars- go on a clear day so you can see the views.

This is a lovely little site, it's true the facilities are very basic however it provides a perfect location for a quiet and relaxing stay. I stayed for a week and had a great time getting back to basics. The site is nestled in a valley with fantastic views, is very sheltered and provides a perfect base for exploring the southern tip of the Peninne way and the peaks. The walks around the site are stunning and cater for all abilities and the village of Edale is a pleasant half hour stroll away. I highly recommend this site if you are an active type of person that appreciates a secluded and basic camping experience. Note: at time of writing this site ONLY accepts tents.

We stayed here overnight to test out our new tent. Very impressed and what a beautiful setting in stunning scenery. It was very easy to make a provisional booking online, they confirmed within 24 hours. Instructions on how to get there were easy to follow. The toilet, showers and pot wash area were clean with plenty of piping hot water, only a short walk from the campsite. We went to The Old Nags Head in Edale for a couple of drinks and had a great time, it's a very welcoming pub with friendly staff and lots of board games to keep the kids happy,we spent a fun hour playing Connect 4 with my 13 year old son who is normally to be found sat in front of the computer or listening to his Mp3, but he really enjoyed it. We slept well despite the wind and rain! but all in all a great break,we will definitely return as soon as we can. Also a big thanks to the man who helped us to put the tent up after I realised the instructions were missing!

I stayed for 5 nights in April over the Easter weekend, with a group of unfit friends. The weather wasn't too bad, plenty of sun - could have been a lot worse I guess. Plenty cold at night. The owners were very helpful and we saw them quite a bit. It was good to see them at work too, reminding us that this is a working farm. They even sold hot cooked bacon sandwiches for breakfast over the B/Holiday and weekends, which was most welcome. There was all sorts of produce available to buy from them and ice cream available too which was beautiful! We pitched in the smaller field nearer to the farm house and facilities, which was really nice and not over crowded at all. Plenty of room for privacy and your own space. I think its just for tents, but there is also a camping barn available. Its generally very well maintained and you can park your car nearby. The facilities were basic essentials, 2 toilets for the ladies with the washing up and shower area right next to it in the doorway. Clean and practical. Plenty of hot water for showers and washing up if you go at the right time of day, when the water has had chance to heat up again. The site is very rural, with excellent walking on the doorstep. Castleton and Hope are easy enough to get to in the car for a bottle of wine and a BBQ from the Spar. A 1 & 1/4 mile walk on the hill footpath to get to Edale pubs and small shop. Fantastic views all around and a good start point for Kinder scout.

Just spent a "one nighter" at Upper Booth. Beautiful views, just the sound of the stream, other campers and local wildlife. Tranquillity! It's remote, it's a farm and as such the facilities are fairly basic but reasonable. Camp and toilets were clean and well maintained. Hot water was a bit scarce if someone has just used the shower (which is in the Ladies but they don't seem that fussy.) If you don't want luxury but you like to just escape with a tent then this is the perfect place.

Quiet, clean fresh air, no light polution, no mobile phone signal, perfect.! Although it rained every morning, the site did not become boggy or mud bound. Basic camping facilities (if you're worried about sharing the toliet facilities with the local wildlife, think twice), in a phenomenally beautiful part of England. The owners were very helpful and courteous, although we had little contact or need of contact, with them. A site my son and I will be returning to.

We've just come back from a weekend at Upper Brook I have to say the site is lovely the views are wonderful and despite it being a busy bank holiday they made sure the site was never over full. Facilities are basic but we didn't think that was a problem at all.
Having said all that, the wind was too much to bear. It blew a gale from the moment we got there to the moment we left. In fact it was a great test for the tents as we waited to see if they'd still be there come the morning! It could have been just a bad weekend but the wind wasn't in any other part of the area in fact we had a lovely sunny walk down round the reservoir only to return to the site a be blown around. It meant that our small children couldn't kick the ball around much which was a shame. In our opinion the site is situated in it's own little micro climate where the wind is king and so we won't be going back

Yes the site is basic, but the scenery and peacefulness make up for it. If you want a shop and all facilities, then this is not for you. The owners are more than helpful and limit the number on site making it a very spacious site. You even get a discount if you are a NT member. What a bargain. Will certainly go again!
