I thought I'd post this review after seeing some of the others below. I have stayed here several times over the years and it is my favourite Peak District site. Yes the toilet facilities are a bit antiquated, yes it is a working (National Trust owned) farm so depending on the time of year it is a wonder it is open at all. I hope the barn doesn't get turned into a toilet block - you can rent it at the moment for about £ 50 per night and have loads of friends over. If you want a site with a shop, professional shop and luxury toilets please don't go there. If you want to experience the outdoors and walk in the best countryside the area has to offer then do and rough it. Please don't develop this site it would ruin it!

Upper Booth Farm is in a fantastic location for a bit of escapism! The Pennine Way starts in Edale, about a mile away, and runs right through the farm. Weather permitting, most able-bodied campers should be able to follow the path up Jacob's Ladder to the edge of Kinder Scout. The views from the top are well worth the effort.

We also took the more direct route to Kinder Scout, following the path alongside Crowden Brook - which skirts the farm - up to Crowden Tower. A shorter walk, but quite a steep climb at the top making for a tricky descent!

The camping field itself is fairly 'cosy' when full, but with so much open space in every direction this is no big deal. Crowden Brook provides excellent entertainment for the kids - take plenty of spare socks and insect repellent!

The facilities are fairly basic - only one shower and a hot water tank that struggles to keep up with demand during peak hours. The farmhouse offers breakfasts and sandwiches, and you can get ice creams from the barn by the entrance.

In summary: location, location, location. Unbeatable!

Just got back after spending four nights here,, the campsite was abosolutly beautiful.. the views surounding the site were amazing would have loved to of stayed longer...!!

The toilets & Shower were basic but this shouldnt put anyone of staying here.. cause after all you dont dont spend much time on the loo & Shower as you do sitting or walking taking in the amazing views..!!!..

will most definatly love to return here next summer...

This campsite is in a lovely location, with some great walks in the surrounding countryside. There is a stream next to the site for the children to play in. We stayed for 2 nights and although it was in nice peaceful surroundings I personally would'nt want to stay for any longer.

What is'nt mentioned in any previous reviews is that the toilet and washing facilities leave a lot to be desired. There are 2 toilets in the ladies with one washbasin and a kitchen sink?? Next to this is one shower for the entire campsite as there isn't one in the gents, and another kitchen sink. I myself didn't fancy washing up right next to the loo and luckily had plenty of plates etc and a washing up bowl back at the tent. There was an awful pong of backed up drains by the toilet block, (which incidentally is right next to the back door of the house, glad I did'nt live there) Luckily in one respect it is quite a trek from the tents in the upper field to the loo.

The owners operate a small shop but there do not seem to be any set opening times for this and it is a bit hit and miss that they are in to pay them for the pitch during your stay some people I saw were going backwards and forwards for the 2 days we were there trying to get an answer from the doorbell. When you do catch them in though they are very friendly and happy to help.

Totally different to the other reviews here - this was not a good experience. The site is listed as having shower, toilet and hot water facilities - there were two toilets in the mens block, one of which was broken. One shower, which was in the ladies. In the morning no hot running water (I don't mean the water wasn't warm, it simply didn't exist!)

The owner seems like a nice guy - just a shame that he hasn't invested in the site.

This site has fantastic views, but it's a great opportunity missed - if the barn there was properly kitted out and converted into showers/toilets etc this would be a great site.

What an absolutely amazing place, we (hubby and 2 dogs) had a fabulous time. We had a very relaxing time, and found ourselves at the campsite and at the very heart of some very good walks. We only stayed the weekend, and would have loved to have stayed longer and probably will later on in the year. Every where was clean, the site, showers, toilets and washing up area. Bacon and egg rolls provided if required at the weekends, before your stroll into the peaks!!! Although the campsite was fully booked we did not feel cramped or itimidated by other campers. The whole site uses just the one shower (males/females and children) and that the hot water obviously does run out, which is OK in the warmer weather but can only imagine what it would be like in the winter!! Remember you do not have to pay for the shower or the hot water - so maybe not so bad. Fabulous find and we will definetly return for a week long stay, later this year.

We went on 22nd & 23rd April. We didn't book but it's advisable to do so as the campsite was nearly full both nights. We were quite impressed with the facilities, hot water, shower, clean toilets. The owners offer bacon cobs etc for breakfast, they will also do lunches and cater for your bbq if you ask. Can't remember the exact price but it was very reasonable. The campsite's in a lovely setting just by a small river. Would definately stay here again.

Stayed here on Bonfire Night. Great site. Basic and clean. Dog loved it. Toilets and showers were clean and functional. No fee for the hot water. All in all a great weekend and a good choice of campsite. We will be using it again.
However, after reading the reviews and seeing some poor reviews for pubs in Edale we were a little dubious. I must say the reviews I read on the pubs were in the main correct. Rubbish. We arrived at the Ramblers one day at 12.00pm which is when food is served to leave at 1.15 still not being able to get served because the boss had took his wife shopping to Tescos!!. Can you believe it. Travelled to Castleton and had a brilliant meal. So all in all, great campsite. Awful Pub

I walked from Edale station which is about 2.5miles, felt a bit further with all my camping gear but it was worth it when I got there. The owners were really friendly, you can get breakfast, tea etc in the mornings from farmhouse and they do bbq food and picnic lunches if you ask as well. Hot showers. There's a particularly nice spot to camp by the river. My dog loved it. Beautiful scenery all around, walks to Kinder Scout from farm. It's a very peaceful place. Felt quite remote but then I didnt have a car. Would definately go back.
