Stayed for the Bank Holiday weekend with friends (2 tents and a caravan). The site looked 'tired' and very scruffy. Facilities were adequate, nothing more - with only around a dozen groups on the site during our stay, I guess the toilet block would have been very busy if the site had been full.
The warden was helpful and advised us not to use specific pitches as they were too boggy due to the rain. We went to try the catering van after pitching our tent, only to find it closed - there was no signs indicating opening hours, so we never tried it.
Overall, not bad enough to leave, but disappointing and we'll not be going back.

Just got back from a bank holiday weekend at this site
Location is very good on the banks of the river just south of York.
Shower block is new and clean and seems adequate for the size of the site.
There is a play area but it looked to be a little encroached upon by a few large tents (just a busy time I suppose)
A caravan at the gate sells hot sandwiches and refreshments so you can sit at the tables on the riverbank and watch the boats go by.
Site wardens very friendly although organisation seems a little vague (reception at the rear of the site for instance)
Site appears to double as a boat storage yard which gives it an untidy feel and the row dividers are full of nettles.
Pitches are not the biggest that I have seen but adequate, two of the biggest touring caravans that I have ever seen seemed to manage quite well
The only drawback to the weekend for us and this is no reflection on the site is that a large group of campers (3 tents) had previously been using our pitch as a shortcut and didn't think because we had arrived that it should make any difference
The ignorance of some people can be breathtaking
Anyway I liked the site but OH thought it was just a bit untidy
A lot of campers seem to have been before so can't be too bad

We arrived at this site at about 1130 am on Friday 2/8/2013. The warden directed me to the pitch the wrong way which would have meant doing a blind reverse??. I managed to turn the unit round and backed my unit in safely. The warden told me that dogs had to be on a lead and no noise after 9-30pm.
When I booked this site I was told the fees for two people were £21. 00 per night all in. When I got to the office to pay I was informed it was £21. 00 + £2. 50 per night for the awning + electric on a paper token system. As I was staying 2 nights I bought 3 tokens making the stay come to £50. 00. I thought this was a bit steep.
On the Saturday morning a dog was sniffing round my awning, I shouted that a dog was loose on the park and some tenters shouted that it doesn't bite and it would be ok ?? I told the warden about it and she said some people were 'buggers' On Saturday night we had a bbq, which we finished at about 10. 00 pm and retired for the night.
Well after 12. 00 midnight there was kids running around the park and very loud parents boozing and rowing until the early hours. I don't mind live and let live but this was ridiculous. The warden must have heard it all as they live on the site.
This site needs to be updated in my opinion, the vans were too close together, you couldn't park your vehicle alongside your unit & awning. The kids play park was full of tents & small caravanettes. There was far in excess of the 25 units as advertised. The site charged £1. 00 per dog per night, but for what ?
There was only one drinking water point, ( 2 taps ) The good points:- the toilet and shower block were excellent and clean, the location was great too.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a tent towards the end of September. When we arrived it had been raining heavily so the area the tents are pitched was a bit boggy but we were allowed to pitch up on the higher ground - although it was a bit rocky in places meaning the pegs had to be moved a few times.
The overall welcome was very good and the people could not do enough for us. The shower toilet block was extremely clean and hot water available all the time. Laundry room also has place for washing plates etc.
Location was perfect. Peaceful location by the river in a little village. There is a bus stop 5 minutes walk from the camp site and buses go to York every 30 minutes in the day and every hour at night.
We don't have kids so can't say what the kids facilities are like, but there is a small set of swings.
Overall we found this place ideal for our needs and will be going again next year.

We have Previously visited this site twice last year in a tent and left a glowing review of the facilities but sadly that cannot be the case for this year.
We now own a caravan and having previously found this site to be clean. We wanted to revisit it with our van and friends.
Unfortunately the lovely new toilet block that was only built last year has not been kept clean and maintained well. Dirty toilet paper was left on the floor and in the sinks for days. The site was very busy with tents being aloud to pitch on any spare bit of grass available
Consequently the facilities were well used with lots of waiting for pot sink and toilets, thank goodness this time we had our own facilities in our van but our friends in the tent found it difficult. There was no hot water for the 4 days we were there so none of us could shower. We did complain but it was not fixed before we left.
Difficulties with the van over a tent on this site were that to empty the grey water carrier you had to drag it up a steep slope and lift it over the chemical toilet point which was difficult enough for us as fittish under forty year olds but would be very difficult for any one with physical problems. I found it bizarre for a site that takes predominately caravans to not have a ground level waste emptying point.
Finally the price at £21 for a fri/ sat night plus extras for awning, child, dog and electric to be too high for the facilities provided but the surrounding area is lovely.

The site is ideal for caravans with awnings. Most pitches had a hard standing for caravans with a grass area adjacent. We pitched out tent on one of these pitches. We had to be selective as our Outwell Glendale 5 is 7m x 4m so quit large and some of the grass areas were not large enough. The electric hook up was chargeable by tokens. I bought three on arrival and gave two away three days later when we left.
There was a free form grass area for tents but that area was full.
The toilet / shower block was good, the showers had plenty of hot water and were proper shower heads so plenty of flow. One morning they looked like they had flooded but one of the staff was busy mopping and cleaning it up, an hour later they were clean and dry. The weather was awful it rained nearly constant so keeping the toilets clean must have been a problem.
The weather spoilt the site as some pitches were stood in water at times. In the brief breaks in the rain the pitches did drain.
The Play area did look like it had suffered from the amount of rain and looked boggy.
The on site take away facility was nice, good sausages.
The location was ideal for York. You are 5mins walk from bishopthorpe, which has a bus stop that operates every half hour. We used the family day pass which costed about £7 that allowed us to use any bus all day. The Ebor Pub in Bishopthorpe was very good, cheap beer and good meals, well worth a visit.
The site is next to the river so small children would have to be closely supervised.

Just had a couple of nights stay here, should have been 3 but the site wasn't to our liking. The site was over full too close together, and the wardens wasn't very helpful. Didn't offer us any information on where the water was or waste had to work it out for ourselves.
The site was well placed to go to York city centre and the village itself was very nice. Bus service into york but unfortunately the bus missed so ended up in a taxi.
The cafe on site had a very good service.
New toilet block but wasn't very clean standard, didn't look like it had been cleaned in a few days.
The gardening needs some attention too, it hadn't had any attention in weeks and was very over grown.

Love this site, not been for a while, stayed here lots of times, wouldn't mind returning now its been revamped! brilliant if you want to hire or have your own boat, perfect to go into york for a few drinks.
Friendly staff, Ebor pub is just a short walk for nice beers which also has a good size beer garden, co-op just over the road. Defo recommend this site, great to sit and watch the posh boats go up and down the river.
Very relaxed site.

We have stayed there for 2 nights. The site is small, pitches very close to one another. The place looks run down, could do with a bit of tidying it up.
But there is some building going on, so probably it will be bigger and better in the future. But everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Toilet and Shower blocks were great! Hot water anytime.
The site is next to the river, some tables by the river to be able to sit down with glass of something or to have BBQ even and there is boats around to look at.
Site is very close to the town centre.

On arrival the campsite looked very picturesque alongside the river with several boats and picnic tables. But upon seeing the pitches, it was clear it was going to be a squeeze.
We took our small weekender tent, and that filled much of our pitch, with the next tent door only a yard from our car - so glad we didn't take our larger one or any canopy - but as we used it as a base to enjoy York, this wasn't a problem.
The problem came in the evening when the lack of space and natural noise-breaking bushes meant everything was audible all night.
The apparent lack of any authority after midnight makes me not want to return with my young son - especially if I like a good night's sleep.
