What a great little site. The owner was really friendly and the field is very flat. Can be subject to flooding though, to ring first if its been raining for a few days.
Bishopthorp offers 5/6 pubs, a chippy and a newsagent and is a short walk from the site.
Park and Ride at nearby Tesco is a godsend to get in and out of York. Taxi about £6.00 from York at night.

We spent 6 nights here and enjoyed our stay on the whole. The campsite is right on the bank of the river and it`s nice to be able to sit there and have a drink while watching the boats go by. Beware the midgies though!
The pitches are flat and though we felt a bit crowded the first weekend, we had more space from Monday onwards.
The warden Paul, is very friendly and helpful and you couldn`t meet a nicer guy.
The showers and toliet blocks, the older ones in particular, weren`t as clean as we had hoped, the newer block is slightly better, but on the whole we were not that impressed with them nor with the washing facilities. A little bit of money spent improving things would make this site perfect.
There is a small supermarket within walking distance and there are three or four pubs. The bus stop into York is a five min walk and buses run about every half hour. York is a 10 minute or so drive by car.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but as I said, a little money spent on the shower blocks and washing facilities would make this site perfect.

Spent four midweek nights here. The site was not overcrowded but was told that this can happen during the weekends. Lovely quiet site next to the river Ouse. The only downside of this site is that the showers and toilets are very dated and in need of a good clean as they were pretty dirty. On the plus side the warden was really friendly and helpful and had time for everyone.
There is a shop and three pubs on the main road through the village, all have beer gardens with play areas for the children to let off some steam. Our favourite was The Mercia, it has really friendly staff and excellent food which was reasonably priced. There is a 24 hour Tesco with a Park & Ride next to it if you want to go into York, these are less than 5 mins drive from the site. I would recommend this site, but be prepared for the toilet and shower blocks. Having said that we were only charged £10 per night so considering this it was very good value for money.

Just come back from a weekend at this site and noticed it was a case of 'pack em in' as much as possible. Hope this was only due to the time of year! Not much room between us and the unit next door and the rest of the site though small was pretty much the same. Rural surroundings next to river, good children's play area, could do with a new toilet block, but a good mix of toilets and showers. Having said this enjoyed the stay and would return again some time.

Big thanks to the staff at Riverside. Warden Paul has made staying at this site very pleasureable by taking the time to show 3 children in our party how to fish on the nearby River Ouse. The camp itself is well maintained, with good showers, toilet and wash room facilities. There are a number of grassy areas and toys for children to use. A large playing field is a 2 minute walk from camp. The site also houses a boat yard, and small boats can be hired for a trip into York city for a reasonable fee (6 seat boat for 2 hours cost £20) Site is also close to York city (about 4 miles to the south) and is in walking distance of Bishopthorpe village, which has 3 pubs which all have large beer gardens with child-friendly areas. There is a nearby Tesco's, and the A64 York - Scarborough road is less than 5 minutes away. A highly recommended site.

Visited this site with my wife and three little girls, site was in a fantastic location right next to the river. Paul the site warden was very helpful, but the showers and toilets were not up to scratch and need at the least a very good clean, or to be honest a new shower block. Good site shame about the loos.

Nice site, small but friendly, The toilet and shower block are small but ok, clean enough. The great thing about his site is that you can hire boats from here and have a sale down the river into York. I would go back to this site, and would recommend to friends and family.

We have just spent a great week at this site, excellent location right by the river Ouse. The village is only about 5 min walk away with some great pubs that do good meals, especially The Mercia. York is only about 2 miles away either catch the bus (no 11) or you can cycle via the cycle ways. Loos and showers are ok plus there is free washing up facility, its a very quiet site so if you have children as we found you might be asked to keep it down after 10 pm which can be annoying especially as you are on holiday! Overall great location, but be quiet!

Location is excellent - 4 miles from shopping outlet centre, 10 minute walk from Bishopsthorpe which has some lovely pubs and a co-op open 7-10pm, river bus to York is fantastic 30 mins on a boat and you're in the centre of York. Site itself is small and compact, amenities were clean and well maintained with 4 showers and 7 toilets. Only negatives of the site would be the closeness to the local dog walking path and the feeling that Big Brother is watching you. This is not the site for you if you are young and want Independence and freedom as the site owners have a number of rules which they enforce constantly.

Brian and his wife have to be the most happy go lucky wardens I have come across, nothing is too much bother, they have tables outside on the river bank and tea or coffee is available. When we go we feel like we have known them for ever. The toilets are well kept clean and fresh. Brian even backs my van into tight spots for me, we also hired a boat for three hours it was great. Thanks Brian we will back a few times a year, you don't get rid of us that easy. Thanks from Lillian John and grandson Stevie.
