Fantastic little site - discovered it after being let down elsewhere. The couple who run the site are so helpful as were the "regulars" who made us feel so very welcome. Bishopthorpe is a nice little place with a few pubs and the friendliest working mens club you will find anywhere. Didnt make it down in 2005 but planning to visit this year.

Absolutley wonderful site in beautiful location, very small but with lovely friendly atmosphere. Best toilet facilities we have had yet, private lockable shower rooms, free showers, spotlessly clean and modern. Site is right on the side of the Ouse, with the riverbus into York at weekends, regular service bus from end of road too. Short walk into village with 2 or 3 nice pubs and old fashioned shops. Have recommended this site to many friends and will certainly be returning.

August 2005 The kids and I arrived on bank holiday monday, the site was small and was very clean.
There is a washing machine (£2 a load) pot washing, plenty of toilets and I think 4 showers (free & loads of hot water). All spotless. The friendly wardens will freeze your ice-packs free of charge. There is also a play area for the kids, swing, slide etc.
Next to the camp site is the river Ouse, on which runs a daily river bus into York. (Leaves at 10.15am returns from York at 4pm). An interesting way to travel, complete with interesting info given by the skipper!
I would recommend this site, the girls and I had a fantastic time on this clean and quiet campsite.

May 2004 We camped here to be close to York and it is an ideal base to cycle into the city as there are a brilliant network of cycle routes. There is also a park and ride not too far away next to a huge Tesco. The campsite is idyllic and peaceful although not very big. The facilities were basic yet excellent, as were the staff. Bishopthorpe is lovely, there was a great pub serving food with a lovely garden as well as a shop selling everything you need, all within walking distance of the campsite. Would definately go again.

September 2004 Fantastic value for money and friendly site. We go once or twice a year.
Flat, grassy site. Very clean and always hot water for free showers (returnable deposit for key to toilets and showers)
Close to quiet village with 4 pubs and a chippy.
Bus service into York city centre or park and ride at nearby Tesco.
Would definitely recommend.

April 30th - May 3rd 2004 Fantastic site 5 minute walk to shops and pubs in the village. Site is kept immaculate and wardens are really friendly and helpful we hired a boat for 3 hours for only £24 in York it was £30 per hour. Will definately go back to this site, the only noise was from ducks in the morning .
