Booked 2 nights. We had to use concrete blocks AND chocks to level van. The showers were disgusting, gents had no door on cubicle! No loo paper in any of the toilets. We left after first night. Cannot believe these people run a site, especially charging £25 per night.

 I'll keep this objective:

Good:

Free showers

Short walk to the beach

You can pay your deposit by credit card

Bad:

The card machine will be broken when you arrive so the balance will have to be paid in cash.

Shower times limited - not open after 8pm and not open from (IIRC) 11am to 4pm.

Shower and toilet blocks could be a long walk, depending on pitch position.

Electricity to shower and toilet block turned off at night.

Shower cubicles are not private - depending on how tall you are you would be able to see most of your neighbour's junk. In my case the cubicles only came to shoulder height.

Shower and toilet facilities have definitely seen better days.

No soap, paper towels or toilet paper provided.

50p charge for washing up water.

Gates are locked at 10pm, so no exit or entrance after this time.

No guests after 6pm (if in car will have to pay £3 parking fee).

Local beach is not really safe to swim as it's a tidal estuary - lots of rips and tows.

Nearest pub (pictured on their website - The Brittania), is probably a good mile away down the narrow entrance road.

Nearest sizable shop is a good 20 minutes away. Big supermarkets nearer 30-40 minutes.

Nearest kid safe beach, probably 25 minutes away.

Unfortunately most, if not all, of the negatives that you've read about this site are true. We had all of the above for the princely sum of £27 a night (the most I have ever paid for a pitch). It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect there to be toilet paper provided, hand soap, and hand drying facilities. To be able to come and go as you please seems a basic human right to me, and although being in by 10pm isn't a major issue (I have youngish kids), I can foresee a medical emergency requiring a quick exit which would be hindered by being locked, and days out will definitely be cut short.

I've never come across restricted times for showers. Having them shut at 8pm can certainly cut short your day at the beach. Had I known in advance that the local beach is not a swimming beach, I wouldn't have booked. Kicking guests out at 6pm seems unreasonable, and is clearly because of the manning of the office.

There is a small car park that they charge for use to access the beach (which is why there is a £3 fee) and your guest parks there. The office though is only manned to 6pm so the cars have to be gone from the car park by 6pm. If you charged by car and allowed the car to park next to the pitch they wouldn't have to dash off until 10pm.

I can't really speak about the conduct of the owners in general since I had little interaction with them, but I would say that shouting at my daughter (by the caravan door) from her car to 'get your dad out', is a bit rude. Beyond payment I had no interaction with the owner and although I understand that it is a business, receiving payment and paying out as little as possible seemed to be the prime consideration of the owner.

There seems to be very little done to actually make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Throughout the site there are notices listing various transgressions which will result in eviction from the site such as collecting hot water from hand washing facilities, or washing a wet suit out in the shower.

When you factor all of this in with the fact that it is very expensive, I can say that I would not go again and would recommend that you look elsewhere. With that said though, the chap on our neighbouring pitch had been 5 years running and other reviews have said the same thing. You can certainly work around the various ridiculous restrictions, but I for one would not choose to do so. It also seems unlikely it would be so busy if the restrictions were known of in advance.

All that said though it is a pretty area and if you're into surfing or the like, it's quite convenient for a number of beaches, so I guess it's likely that the number of people who will make do will outnumber those that won't. You get the feeling that it's a game of camping/caravan jenga with the owner; see what can be removed in the way of comfort, services and fun, and still keep them coming. Anyway, not for me in any case.

Just stayed here and the site is well located on a beach. Facilities basic but clean. Restrictions placed on when you can wash up and shower which is a little odd. Had to pay for hot water to wash up and only one sink working.

Overall the site could do better. Little things as mentioned above and the fact that pitches are not marked out so people basically pitch where they want. We had a group that pitched circa 6 tents right in front of us. Also, the grass had not been cut for ages so was considerably long.

Good friendly cafe on site.

 Camping

For two nights one tent 5 adults and one child it cost £75 which could be ok, however in this case really it is so over priced.

We were kept waiting at the gate because the people on the gate did not know we had booked and had no details. The owners were quick enough to take the money by phone. We were then questioned why we needed two vehicles, not really a mystery, 6 adults and an 11 year old. We needed a big tent, a lot of food, clothing and all the sundries, this was not going to fit into a 307 Peugeot. We were questioned about our late arrival, 6. 30pm considered late from Cheltenham, I do not think so. We had hit a lot of traffic, my car had broken down twice, we did pretty well to get here in 3 1/2 hours when we left Cheltenham at 3. After the trip I had had having got covered in oil and diesle 2 times a smooth booking in would have been welcomed

The fields we camp in are in need of mowing, a herd of cows would have got very fat in this grass to put it mildly. There is rubbish littered about the place. The showers are limited as to when you can use them. In the morning the showers are limited opening times, 8. 30 until 11 am. The toilets are very primitive. The showers are them limited opening in the evening.

The car parks are closed at 6. 00pm so it makes life impossible to go out for a meal should you wish to. You are not allowed visitors on site after 6. 00pm and it is enforced.

We had one member of the party drop out at the last minute due to unfortunate situation and a refund was not going to Be given at all.

If the experience is going to be what it is then it should be priced accordingly, in this case a lot lower. If the price is going to be the level it is then it is a very poor facility in terms of value for money.

They are really cashing in, this place is on its knees and the number of people here reflects the lack of value for money. Having since looked at other sites who offer the same experience for the same money this place is dying. The other sites are a lot busier without being excessive. There facilities are new and purpose built where this place is dog eared and a little more than just tired. People will not be repeating this experience when they see what other sites have to offer.

Why once again do we have to look at how the Europeans do things and then feel like we are a third world country. My advice, be prepared for a disappointing camping site or stay away.

Second day one child arrived late and had another car, we had so much trouble with the camp site and will never return.

The woman at the desk, suggested we might want to leave now and I said I would not. I only had two nights on the site and I was not going to pack up at 5. 00pm and find another site to camp on. Service is something that they really do not understand. I also met another camper on the site who had been suggested he might like to leave as well.

She also suggested that having read the internet comments and still coming to the site I am clearly stupid. I personally felt that having been to the site to inspect it a few weeks earlier that the comments were possibly unfair, I felt they were worth a second chance. They really are not worth a first chance yet alone a second.

I have stayed on many sites and this one clearly is the worst. Busy summer holidays and I should have seen the space and realised. This place is dying on its feet and it is one site people use once and then they learn. Beware, if you wish to risk it fine, they are not worth a second chance and I would recommend you do not give them a first chance.

I have spoken to a couple of other campers, the best remark was that the site was overpriced. This site really should be taken away form it's owners and given to someone that cares. It is a potential jewel, it really does not live up to its website.

No loo paper, showers could do with looking like they are out of this century. Not enough showers for the ladies and the timers on the shower heads are too short. You have to pay to get hot water to wash up, there was a pile of litter in the field. One caravan owner had to lift a field gate of its hinges to get his caravan out because the owners would not unlock it. Two families who were not allowed to park there caravans next to one another, for no apparent reason. Half a pint of milk 80p, that was all we were prepared to buy. Minimum effort in by the owners and maximum price charged.

I honestly thought that the bad reviews were just the odd disgruntled person. However you pay in advance for a weekend and by the time you have pitched and put everything where it is you really are not prepared to pack everything up and search for another site. When you have to leave at 12. 00 you wake, you pack and by the time everything is sorted the showers have closed. So you shower then you pack away and you are all hot and bothered when you leave.

They know the bad reports are on here, they know so a any customers are really very unhappy but they make no effort to change. They know they can keep taking enough money from people like us who are prepared to give them a chance.

This was our 2nd visit to Llanmadoc Campsite - Yes, we went back! Before our 1st visit here, we were completely put off by all the reviews - the place sounded dreadful, comparing it to Auschwitz & run by the Gestapo! ALL completely wrong!

The camp fields are on a very slight slope, so just be careful where you pitch if it rains, ie. Not at the bottom of the fields! I wasn't alarmed when I saw the toilets or showers, after reading all the reviews! Yes, they are very basic - no toilet paper available, but this is a good thing, as it meant that the toilets were clean, no messy paper strewn around the floors, people know that you have to take your own, therefore, do not abuse it & leave it lying around on the floors!

However, I do think that soap should be provided to wash your hands, but it isn't. The toilets were spotlessly clean at all times & not at all smelly.

The shower block is pretty grim, but , it's very functional, lots of space in each individual shower & also very clean. I tried a few separate cubicles & each one didn't lock - broken locks on the doors & a little nylon curtain across the top of the door (for extra privacy), held on by a bamboo pole, all very basic as I said, but the showers were hot, actually very temperamental, be careful if you have small children, as the temperature can change in an instant & become boiling, but it's better than having cold or lukewarm showers! There are restricted shower times - I thought this would be a problem, causing big queues, but it wasn't so.

We had absolutely no problem with the staff at all, in fact, they were extremely friendly & helpful. The battery went dead on our campervan, I asked for help & within minutes, they brought the tractor round to jumpstart our battery! They wouldn't accept anything from us, as a 'thank you', it's all 'part of the job', they said - we were very grateful.

Mrs Price was very friendly & chatty, nothing like she has been portrayed, however I would imagine that if rules are broken, it would be a different story! So, abide by the rules & you can't go wrong.

The location of this campsite is stunning, just a few minutes walk to the most incredible beach! We walked along the coast path to Llangennith - what can I say, just out of this world!

One evening, we decided to walk to the local pub - (Brittania Inn) I thought it was closer than it was to the campsite, however it took us 30 minutes, nice views along the narrow lane, but very disappointed when we got there, as they don't allow dogs in, it wasn't a particularly warm evening, too cold to sit outdoors & eat, so we sat in the garden, had a drink, then started the long walk back to the campsite & put the bbq on!

We have had breakfast in the campsite cafe twice - very nice & at £4. 50 you can't go wrong - this includes a full english breakfast, tea or coffee & toast! All freshly cooked, with very friendly staff.

All in all, this campsite is absolutely fine - I wish we'd gone there sooner, but was put off by all the reviews - Yes, it is very basic, but if you expect more then go to a campsite that has modern amenities - this campsite is on a working farm, so what do you expect!

We decided to camp last minute after a day at the beach, this was the only campsite which we could stay at last minute.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and said for us to come straight down. When we arrived I couldn’t help feeling disappointed, all I wanted was to put up the tent have something to eat and a shower, the campsite was quite expensive for what it was, and we were lead to an uneven, unmown field full of stingers and thistles.

After we had put the tent up I went to find the toilets only to discover that you had to buy your own loo roll and soap from the shop. The blocks were modest, which I’m used to, but I really was reluctant to use the showers which looked slightly grim. By the time we had found somewhere to eat (about a 10 mile drive at least!) the showers were closed anyway. They had shut at 8pm.

There was a lovely pub quite close by but it was about £20 a head for a main. There was an on site cafe but I don’t know if it was still serving. When I went in to get a loo roll the shop seemed fairly well stocked but I didn’t hang around.

The campsite was right by the beach, it was literally almost on the sand dunes, which was great, but overall I think the campsite could do with a bit of looking after. As it was very close to the beach, I guessed that's why it was expensive, but it would be much more worth the money with a bit of modernisation. I don’t think we will go back in a hurry.

Just returned from a lovely few days camping. This is my 3rd year camping here. Its a great site for families and the location is perfect.

The children love the sand dunes and the beach is so close, you go to sleep at night to the sounds of the sea. Its a basic site with regard to washing facilities, but its clean and the hot water is free (showers are a little temperamental ) but its camping not a five star hotel.

The cafe on the site is brilliant. The fish and chips are a snip at £3. 50 and you get a huge plate. The people who run the cafe are so friendly and very kind. We even had free lollies for the kids!

I spoke to Mrs Price on the phone who was friendly and took payment over the phone. We arrived late at 9pm on Friday and were warmly greeted and shown where to hook up and park.

As other reviews mention, the facilities are modest, but the showers are piping hot and free. Though no hot water for washing up.

The location is simply stunning and quick to access if coming off Jt 47 on the North Gower road. Yes, there are strict rules but this ensures that the place is quiet, clean and everyone has a nice stay. (Apart from sheep dropping about!)

Highly recommend the site and especially the cafe which served a great quality breakfast at very reasonable prices. Coffees 1. 35, full-english breakfast with hot tea/coffee 4. 35. The cafe/shop has great views, nice deco and a friendly vibe. 2 pints of milk for 87p etc.

Customer service was very good, the man on site opened the gate for us to leave. Please bear in mind its a working farm and a bit rough and ready. If you like the 'organic experience' then you'll like this site :-)

There are great walks around, to the Brittania Inn pub and Llangennith/Rhosilli Bay

I tried this site because of the location, which was very good as I like to walk on the beach with my dog.

The site itself left a lot to be desired. The fields were uneven and not mown at all.

Shower and toilet block were very basic and not very clean. No soap or toilet paper. One water tap in the field which was very boggy as no runaway, it meant when you went to collect water it was best to either wear wellies or go bare feet.

There was lots of silly rules as well, the gates into each field was very annoying and I could not see any point to them as they were not locked or anything, but it meant that you had to keep getting in an out of car to open and shut.

It was not the cheapest of campsites an was certainly not worth the money.

Llanmadoc campsite lies on a stunning part of Gower peninsular. Superb walks, to the west Blue pool, Burry Holms, and Rhosili beach, to the east miles of unspoilt sand dunes and beaches with views over the Loughor estuary, all ideal for families, and the more adventurous.

This was our third visit to the site, and we were not surprised by the 15 minute wait to be welcomed. We paid £81 for a three night stay(two adults and two children who were classed as adult maturing early at 10!). We were shown to an unmown paddock lined with barbed wire fencing, surely used for livestock in quieter periods.

The toilet block is very dated, although the owners make every effort to keep it clean. There are no hand driers, and no toilet paper(supplied at an extra cost of 50p a roll in the office).

The showers are a bit of an adventure, could be hot could be cold, and only open for limited hours in the morning and the evening. After an evening barbecue I was politely told to leave during mid shower at 8pm. The washing up area normally had a queue, and again a charge of 50p was asked for hot water, by means of a meter.

There was a lot of discussion of how people were treated on the site and to say Mrs Price ran it with an iron fist would be a fair description. There are some lovely sites on Gower, and in this world of regime change, it would be nice to think this could be brought up to their standards for the prices charged.
