Visited this site on numerous occasions. Love the place the wardens work extremely hard keeping everything just right. The bank holiday bbq was a great event with regulars and first time visitors all joining in the fun and Jim the chef doing an excellent job. The fishing is ok but the water is very green a small investment in a couple of bales of barley hay would so on clear this up. Dave and Carolyn work extremely hard to tend to ur needs but alas you always get some folk that go out of their way to be awkward, mainly a pair of campervans that want super pitch service for 3 * prices. Overall a fantastic site with fantastic wardens can't wait for our next visit

Bank Holiday weekend was the best time we've had. Jim the BBQ chef did an amazing time. A great friendly site with lovely helpful wardens. We love this site and all the regulars make it home from home.

Site & Fishing review Autumn 2018.
NB. Firstly be very aware (as at October 2018) that this Site's website is actually still c. 2001 and hence mostly very outdated etc. Prices are updated to 2018 !
17 years later.
Site. Latest welcoming Wardens to be commended for working very hard to now improve & maintain this site which is, as per other reviews, becoming a little tired in places beyond their influence. Adjacent Trains didn't trouble us. Dog walking was OK / good. Understand site has become quieter in last few years. Mainly smarter seasonals pitched in October 18. Altogether generally acceptable for a Touring site stay.
Fishing. Pleasant enough looking Lake on first appearances (& in cheerful 17 year old pictures) but sadly needing attention. Surface (blue ? /) green algae (noted in review in August 2018) still abounds (Oct 2018). Overgrown trees adjoin irritating Iris notices at pegs, so pole fishing best. Lake is very shallow at 18 to 24 inches max - water level was 12' down due to 2018 drought but also seemed very very silted up. Noisy Aerator in one corner working hard 24/7 adjoins Pitch 1 to avert fish cull, so two adjoining 'golden' pegs were producing from the shoaled up fish. Rest of lake quiet or algae blighted. Fishing rules at honesty box stated no groundbait, no surface baits etc etc - be helpful to know that in advance. Mainly Skimmers and a few carp & Roach. £3 day ticket sums it up (strictly in advance).
If your seeking a Touring Site which specifically also has a reasonable Fishing Lake - I'm reluctant to recommend in Oct 2018.
Have Downgraded Review ratings due to the mis-leading website and poor state of the Lake.

Pleasant, quiet, well maintained site. Toilet block clean and tidy, if a little dated. Two toilets in Gents insufficient when site full on Bank Holiday weekend. Service points scattered around the campsite would have been good to save long treks to fetch water, dispose of waste water, washing up area, dispose of rubbish (no sign of recycling here ?. , also bins full to overflowing when we left). Had to ask for WiFi password, could have made more readily available? Suggest moving tourist info brochures to (say) laundry room, so they can be accessed out of office hours. Also include details of local hostelries (Ship in Strensall village very nice, not so Half Moon, which we found Uninviting and food mediocre.

We stayed here for 4 nights and first impressions were very good clean and tidy park and very good facilities although the camp was not very busy. As one review points out some pitches were tight but with there being plenty of space in the camp it did not apply. But on the second day we were there the warden sited a caravan very close to our caravan and then their car was parked almost at our door so we could not sit outside our caravan where our door was. Why this was done I will never know but it certainly spoiled our holiday and I would not recommend this site to anyone and I will not be back. We would have stayed longer but with their car being at our door we certainly changed our minds.

Spent 5 days on this site, and was very pleased with all the facilities, showers and toilet clean, getting on a bit could do with some money spent on them. Lovely peaceful time, no children !Railway very close but you didn't notice it much, soon got used to the trains. Lovely walking nearby round Strensall common Played 9 holes on the golf course, quite cheap as a lot of work being carried out, was not impressed with the course at all, Wardens very friendly and helpful, Wi Fi in the Laundry room was free but a bit unpredictable at times Had Sunday lunch in a Pub in the village, very poor. Will use this site again, for the peace and quiet alone

Found site easily with postcode.
Wednesday was wardens day off but he was still there to show us our pitch paid next day.
Warden and wife very friendly was expecting an ogre from some reviews but was nice.
Warden said pitch was tight, but fine for motorhome and awning. L lovely people. Very friendly, lake decent for fishing.
Nice big toilet and shower block male and female two showers each plenty of toilets, very clean. Washing up area 3 sinks, laundry area, pleasant site, dog walking area, and common over the road from site, only downside not any bins on site or for doggy bags on dog walk part. Train track right next to site but didn't bother me run from 7. 30 till 10. 15 on whole would definitely go back

We stayed here for 6 nights. The Wardens are very friendly and helpful. The fishing was very good, with loads of pegs to choose from. I found some very decent carp only a foot from the bank, and they put up a good fight when caught. As for the site itself, we found it a bit regimental ( as to parking your van) but it seemed not all obeyed the 6m distance rule. If you need Internet, you have to ask the wardens for the password, as it was not offered to us on arrival. ( no problem for us though ). Great area to explore, not far from ' Heartbeat ' country, and Whitby. One warning, if you are towing a caravan beware of the turning, as the sign is hidden by the trees. ( as you go along the road, the army barracks on your right, the site entrance is just BEFORE a cattle grid. ).
A nice site worth a visit. Railway line next door but not a problem.

Lovely adult only site, ken and kim are always helpful. The showers need updating a bit past there best. If you like fishing this is the place to be. We do not fish but it is easy to get to monks cross and york. The trains run right next to the site but the last one is at approx 10. 40pm so you can still sleep.
All in all a good quiet site. Be aware when it rains the site can get boggy.

Our 3rd visit to moorside in june for 10 nights was just fab!
As usual ken and kim the wardens were very friendly and ken sorted us a pitch suitable for our needs. (you can book up but with the site being so popular with the regulars they cant allocate you a pitch)(if you have a twin axle van. Let them know when you book!)
The facilities are spot on! the reviews with complaints are probably from people who have stayed at 'plastic holiday parks'. (no-one dressed as a bear or a dog here!)
It is an adult only site so no screaming kids running round or riding bikes or kicking balls at your caravan!.
The fishing is great! I was catching carp none stop barring one day when they ware spawning.
Some of the older guys were fishing for bream and their action was none stop!
The toilets are very clean, the dish wash area has 3 sinks, the launderette is reasonable cost.
Locally the village has 2 nice pubs, a small supermarket and a chippy.
Venture further out and there is all you want at clifton moor or monks cross in york.
If you fancy a belly busting meal, goto huckleberrys american diner on the A64!
There is a caravan shop on the A64 too if you need chemicals or spares, 10 mins drive from the site.
The only downside to the site is the rail track running down the back of it, but you don't seem to hear the trains after the 4th or 5th one!
The site does get busy on weekends! if you are going for fishing on a weekend, you need to be up early if you want a certain peg!, I was there 2 weekends and managed to get a peg at 11am every day, there are plenty to go round!
If you want to fish for silvers then pegs near lakeside vans are best, if you are after carp the pegs over the other side and nearest the road are better.
My biggest carp was 16lb on the pole from the margins on peg 16!
An ice cream van and a butchers van come round on Friday and Saturday night, the butcher will cut you chops of meat as you want and his pork sausages are to die for! so you must have BBQ nights fri & sat!
The site have free WiFi but its not very good if you are at the far end of the site. If you are using mobile internet check your coverage, I'm on EE and it was a bit hit and miss at times, EE say the area is good for 3G but as I say it was a bit hit n miss for me.
The grounds are very well kept! when a van moves off, ken jumps on his lawn mower and trims the grass around the area, they were laying paving for hard stand parking on the far end pitches when we were there and laying some hard stand pitches near the dish wash area.
So to me they are constantly improving the site!
I went with my wife and our dog, along with my wife's mum and dad in 2 caravans, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning there very soon!
