We stayed at the site for 3 nights in order to attend a friend's wedding at a nearby hotel.
The welcome was warm and friendly and the site appeared fairly well maintained with plenty of hook up and water points. The shop was well stocked and the toilets and showers were adequate for the number of campers on the site when we arrived.
Our pitch was at the bottom of the site next to the woodland walk to Bruce's cave (which was really lovely. Wish it had been a longer walk!). On arrival we found it difficult to park level without being half on the roadway. Had we gone any further forward we would have got stuck as the pitch fell away sharply. Nevertheless, we did manage to park level. The only downside was a large pile of dog mess on our pitch (we noticed further dog mess around the site unfortunately. However, this is more to do with the campers than the staff of course)
We arrived the Thursday before the Bank Holiday weekend. By the time it had got to Saturday, the campsite was packed full of happy people, kids and dogs. At this point, the 2 showers in the ladies block were rendered dirty and inadequate. The loos were filled with ripped up tissue and the floors were wet with urine. Again, this is the fault of the campers, not the owners, but the loo block could have done with a daily clean. The sinks however, were immaculate!
The play area looked awesome - I bet the kids loved it!
It suited our needs for the weekend but I would say it could do with a bit of an overhaul, particularly the hard standing pitches. I doubt I will be back, not because of the niggles, just because we rarely travel that far North

Just returned from our first visit to this site. We wouldn't usually travel this early in the season but we couldn't wait to try out our new van. As previous reviews have stated there is a lot of seasonal vans on the site and as such we had to pitch at the bottom of the site. Now this wouldn't usually be an issue but given that all the water was off with the exception of one tap at the top of the site as were the facilities we had some trekking to do.
The facilities themselves weren't great with the main toilet blocks being closed. This meant there was only a unisex bathroom to use which was also the only shower. Far from ideal given that site was very muddy and consequently the floors were filthy. Therefore very happy children who didn't shower the whole weekend!
The pitch itself was at the bottom of the hill and an absolute bog, this was especially an issue as the electric supply is very very weak and as such we were constantly having to go out to the fuse box. There were other pitches to chose from but as others have said they're very untidy.
On a positive note the wardens were friendly and the site is in a great location. The potential the site has is great, it just needs an overhaul. There's a great kids park but it looks dated and needs a tidy up too.
Couldn't comment on the reception/shop/games room as they weren't open

Totally happy with our stay at this wonderfully located and historical site.
Lots to explore and great stopover for those heading further up the British Isle.
Facilities and friendly staff ticked every box as far as we're concerned.
Will definitely visit again. Thank you!

Arrived at site to be told no booking found for us, then to be told two nights booked when we only had booked for one night, pitch eventually found for us.
Good atmosphere on site.
Hosts very friendly and welcoming.
The site what can I say, needs a hell of a lot of sorting out, very run down pitches, left over boards on the floor around pitch, broken uneven and very untidy looking. This appeared to be the vast majority of pitches around us, not a good looking area around van. Space around vans well I think a shoe horn would find good employment in this site squeezing vans in next to each other. No space for cars next to van with awning up and limited space to put cars.
Had to borrow an extra long lead to reach electric point for van so fair distance off electric on some pitches.
Over all appearance of site is needs some basic maintance tidying and repairs to vast areas of the site, but no rubbish laying around.
Facilities again Rapids needed but plenty for use of.
Would I use site again, maybe not unless visiting family in the area. But this would be one night only.
Not recommended if you want a quiet peaceful holiday.

This is a great site and would recommend to all the staff were very helpful, although we have no children with us it was nice to see the children having fun, we arrived on the Friday prior to may bank holiday good job we had booked this site as it was very popular, we went for a meal at the Station Inn as recommended by the owners of the site, they said don't look much on the outside but food is great they were spot on, it was the best meal we have had in a long while.
Robert the bruce's cave has been made accessible to get in to it was really great.
Would definitely recommend, small shop on site providing all the necessities, toilets and showers where clean and tidy can not find anything bad to say about this site.

First time on this site. Very nice, clean and quiet. Nice play area for the kids. Showers where great, nice hot free flowing water, cant fault it. Great idea with the radio playing in the block only trouble is found myself sitting on the loo a bit longer while listening to the songs lol. Will be using this site again and will recommend it to my friends.

Stayed here on route to Netherlands as a stop over for 1 night. When we stayed campsite was quiet with friendly staff and very well kept grounds. Nice clean toilets and short walk to King Robert the Bruce's cave, with nice walk along the river. Suitable equipped playground, but unfortunately shop closed just as we arrived so cannot comment on the shop however there is a Supermarket and fuel about 7 miles away in Annan.
Would gladly stay here again if exploring the borders.

Stayed here as a stop off on the way to Ardrossan to get the ferry to Arran. Served its purpose but appeared a bit run down (could be time of year) with a lot of vacant caravans that were to be honest dilapidated.
Showers and toilets were clean but found the piped radio a bit disconcerting.
Wash area was adequate with double drainer which always helps but surfaces had obviously not been wiped for a while.
Proprietor was helpful and friendly.
Pub nearby, with friendly hosts and locals, did not sample food but menu looked good.
May stay again but only as a stop off.

Just got back from another lovely long weekend. What can I say its a fantastic site for a getaway site.
Loads on the play park for the kids to do and they can play in the river and there is a games room with airhockey and videos for little ones to watch.
Every one is very friendly everything is always clean and tidy, and if your lucky when you go there might be a clay pigeon shoot on my kids love it.
We will be back for another weekend

We decided to try this place again after many years. We spent a couple of nice relaxing nights here and were surprised at the changes that have been made here, all for the better.
We had a pitch next to the shop as the bottom site had a few tents and caravans on it. We were fine and handy for the toilets and showers, not to mention the shop. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. All the staff were very helpful and nothing seemed to much trouble for them.
There is a nice wee walk down to Bruces cave, (one of the MANY Bruces caves) and a nice river to sit beside and relax. The children's play area looks a bit tired and could do with some TLC. This was the only negative point.
Gretna is a short drive away with some designer shops and the wedding centre. We were never stuck for something to do. We'll stay longer the next time.
