We spent a long weekend at this site with several other UKCampsite.co.uk members and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were made really welcome by the site owners and could not fault the facilities. The shop was well stocked with basic requirements and the toilets were spotless. The site is sloping but not enough to cause concern, and there is a nice riverside walk. The EHU's were only 6 amps, but that did not worry us as we are all experienced campers and caravanner's who camp to escape the modern luxuries of home. The kids enjoyed the playground and the river. We had three very enjoyable nights on site with our own refreshment, no need to visit the village pub a mile or so away. I would definitely recommend this site for small group meets.

3rd visit in as many years but 1st with the caravan, the location is ideal but the site has seen little improvement in the 3 years I have been going. The field is very muddy and okay the 10 days heavy rain didnt help matters much with the slope field drains would take the water away better
The slope isn't ideal for pitching caravans on but knowing the site I had plenty of timber blocks, the EHU at 6 amps is just nowhere good enough, especially with more modern vans. I was okay using gas for heat and cooking. This really needs an upgrade to 10 or 16amp also the site lights are still not working GRRR. Final moan is the site's fire fighting gear, we had to use the hose to wash a seasonal awning that got a bit splattered with mud and the pressure was nowhere near enough, also water is useless for any electrical fires, there should be dry powder bottles dotted around as well
The shop is okay for essentials and the wee shop in KPF is good for most stuff, Tommy's snack van serves good food. I know Jan has spent a lot of ££££ on cove house and it is looking great but the touring park needs money spent, it wouldn't take a lot to make a difference

Spent 2 nights here on the way back to wales from the highlands, Jan the owner was helpful and friendly, the weather has been very wet and she tried to find us some where dry to pitch the tent. We could hear the trains from where we were, but to be honest didn't notice them at night (although we did hear some traffic from the road) The site itself had loads to look at and the kids loved the play area, the shop carried the basic stuff which was handy if you did't want to drive to gretna. Nice tidy free showers / toilet;s and free use of fridge. The site also has a washing / drying room, we didnt use it so don't know how much it cost. I do know my daughter was pleased to find a plug she could use to charge her mobile!
Enjoyed our stay and would go back, great place to stay over if your touring.

We've just come back from the UKCS meet here and it was out first visit.
There was me, hubby and two under 4's. The site is lovely, though very much geared to the seasonal vans. The main camping field is on a slope which can be interesting but we managed fine. Watch out when the weather turns bad as it can become a mud bath (ten days of rain so we found out!) The facilities onsite where excellent. Kept clean, amazing considering the weather we had. And the family bathroom is a godsend if you have a child that hates showers.
A couple of minor things for us was the lack of chilled goods in the shop (bacon, sausages, etc) which was more of a problem when you have to drive 5 odd mile for a decent size shop. The other thing was things to do in the local area for very small children. Everything is a bit of a drive. But I will recommend the Farm park just the other side of Dumfries, excellent!

We were at Bruce's for a week (a UKCS meet)
The staff were really nice and the toilets/showers were excellent.
It rained and rained the place was a big quagmire. We were on a sloping field. We were packed in like sardines. The EHU is only 6amps and is totally inadequate and it kept tripping. The staff told us we had to switch off the fridge if we wanted to put the kettle on. We ended up going out and buying a camping kettle. The rules state you are not allowed to use heaters. We had to use our gas for heating, cooking and the kettle.
Shame really it's a good site especially for kids but they really need to invest in adequate EHU supply and I suppose the weather didn't help (They can't do anything about that)
The pub in the village at the top of the road is nice and sells excellent food

Stayed here for a weekend with friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves although as a previous poster has said, Okay the field is sloping, but you can get a level enough pitch with no problem.
It was a bit Breezy when we arrived and we did have some heavy rain at night, but it was actually Red hot on the Monday when we left to go home which is typical.
The showers are Freeby`s and so is use of the fridge and freezer which is very handy. Ma own opinion is that the family bathroom is a great idea for people with younger children, that are happier with a bath than a shower.
Jan the owner is a lovely lady and very helpful and the shop which is in Reception, carries most things you may need.
We didn`t actually go ourselves but there is a van just outside site which, we have been told serves up some great meals at a better price than most Bernie Inns.
The kids loved the play area, especially the bigger kids who loved mounting the camel and playing Hoppity as well as climbing the spiders web which turned out to be Katy`s forte. The play area is brilliant for kids of all ages.
All in all we had a great weekend with good friends and after a few Stellas Sue was as clueless as Sarah and both were feeling Crumpled the next day as they must have drunk enough to fill a big Gerry can, but that`s what a good weekend with friends is all about, a few drinks, a good chat and a promise to meet again.
Would I recommend this site? Yes and we will definitely be going back as soon as we can.

One arrival you can book in and get all the info you require from the reception/shop.
The site itself is lovely and sheltered, so good for Breezy days. Oaky, its not the best for pitches as the middle field is a bit sloped but in Ma opinion its a cracking site to stop off at if you are touring the area. The facilities are immaculate at all times and I'm sure the kids will love the small play area, my mate Bernie just couldn't get over the size of the Camel! I can imagine the phones will be Red hot for bookings in high season so best to book in advance.
Would definitely use this site again.

Just got back from four night stay at King Robert the Bruces cave. It is a nice clean and tidy site, with a small reasonably priced shop and very friendly. Electric hook up is available and has obviously been improved recently as there were no problems like the ones in previous reviews. There isn't much to do locally but it's an ideal site to use as a base for touring or for a relaxing break.
There is a supermarket in Annan which is about 6 miles away or a shop in Kirkpatrick Flemming about a mile away if the site shop doesn't have what you're after.
Our five kids (yes Five) loved the park and the walks and our daughter loved the history of King Roberts cave, even though it isn't much more than a hole in the wall and not much to get excited about. The tent site is on a bit of a slope but not the worste we've seen.
The only real downside for me which is no fault of the sites and I'm surprised nobody else has said it were the midges and mozzies! We got eaten alive on our first night, but wasn't too bad after that as we went to Dumfries to buy mozzy spray, Citronella candles and the smoke of the barby kicked in. So go prepared!
We would definitely go back as it's not too far from us and ideal for a weekend break.
Thanks to Jan and Denise and the rest of the staff for Great weekend.

After a terrible start to our Easter weekend we sorted our electric fault out and arrived on speck late on Good Friday - they had room due to the terrible weather! This is our third visit this year and the site was fully opened. Immaculate toilets and showers. Very helpful staff and we stayed for three days and as before had a great time. Would recommend this site very highly and the take away van just off the site is a God send! Would also recommend Three's mobile broadband as I'm using this to type this review - sitting in the caravan over looking the woods. We will be back again I'm sure.
