March 1st was our second visit this year - our dog loved the river and despite the mud we had a great time on both visits (our first was in February. Our thanks to Denise who greated us warmly on both visits. Despite reduced facilities the toilet and shower was nice and clean but only 1 water point was available - however we were located nice and close to it so it did not end up being a problem. Nice and quiet on both visits and very good facilities for children, play area with nice spiders web climbing frame etc. Robert the Bruce cave was interesting (did not see any spiders!). Wooded area for dog walking. We will definitely return again - thank you.

Stayed here for the ukcs borders meet.  Had a fantastic time.  Great play park for the kids, clean showers and toilets, plenty of hot water.  They were always clean even tho the site was really muddy because of the awful weather and constant rain we had. There was even a family room with a bath in it and a disabled room that were great for me on my own with two children.  We never had to queue for showers whilst there.  The washing up facilities were clean and tidy and whatever time of the day you went they were always clean, they must have been constantly kept up with.  Again, never had any queues.  The girls loved it, they loved the play park and the river and the cave.  The river was quite fast running tho.
The owners were lovely people, the shop on site wasn't huge but it had the basics.   I would definitely go there again.

Stayed for a week, my husband my 15 yr old son and myself. The weather could have been better but this site made a perfect base to go off site seeing from. The site owners give you a leaflet with some ideas of site seeing trips. This was really useful.
Toilets were kept clean, in spite of the mud.
Shop was great for essentials.
Staff very friendly.

We've just got back from Bruce's cave, and we thought the camp was great. The shower block was very clean and the owners were very friendly.
We had an opportunity of clay pigeon shooting which was great and really reasonable, and we would reccomend it. We will definetly return very soon to visit the camp and surrounding area's of Scotland
My only problem was finding a supermarket , but in the end we did get most of our supplies from the onsite shop.
Kids thought the play area was great

Facilities at this camp site are good, toilet block clean and the campers here were very friendly, nice friendly relaxed atmosphere about the whole place.  Staff were really helpful.  There was a motor bike rally here when I was here so it was busy and a little noisy but not overly and not late. My son loved this camp site,  they have a adventure play park, Robert the Bruce's cave, ( which he told everyone about) and to top it all they had a big bonfire at night (dont know how often this happens).
Overall great child friendly campsite which I will definitely be back to.

Spent 3 nights on this very nice site on the UKCS meet.

Nice setting in woodlands that does kill the sound from the M74, along with the river close by for fishing / walks. Pitches are sloping for tents but I was able to find a flattish pitch, plenty of water points so no long hikes to fill the kettle. Toilets and showers were spotless as was the dishwashing area. The shop carried all the basics and the food wagon was very useful for those egg butties and that scottish delicacy chips and cheese

Owners could not have been more helpful and welcoming, only minor gripe was that a lot of the site lighting was failed but it made the evening walks nicer under the torchlight. Would I stay again?? definitely A++

Wo parties, one in trailer tent/folding camper other in a family tent, not monster). I really, really did not like this site. I suspect this was because it was the wrong type of site for us as there were excellent facilities and many people clearly thought it great. However it was my idea of hell. Although I am going to try to be objective obviously I am looking at this site through my prospective, please remember that because probably for some this could be an ideal site. It is also convenient to the main artery road to the highlands which could be very useful for an overnight stop and I would happily use it for that myself.

Close pack! Close pack! We were packed in like veritable sardines. I was in a folding camper was not so bad; but my sister in law was in a tent, not a monster one, and tents were almost touching let alone just guy ropes. There was not even a nod at the 6m rule it was very oppressive. Each camping area was ringed by static’s or permanent caravans so the tourers and campers were shoehorned in. The site was set in woodland so there were no views and felt very much hemmed in. For me camping is about space and seeing the stars so space is my number one requirement, but safety must also be a consideration when space is so tight. At night there was lighting so I could have been in a town… I quite like getting out the torch for the last walk to the facility block.

It is not all negatives, the facilities were excellent. Wonderful showers and modern wash block, kept up to high standards. Personally I thought that the plastic flower touch in the loos was a bit tacky but that is just a matter of taste. There is a family shower and a family bathroom which can see would be great for families. The washing up facilities very sensibly laid out and practical and a reasonable priced laundrette. There were plenty of water points etc convenient to pitches. There was also a very lovely play area for the kids set in the woodland.

Because the units were so close together you could not let the kids play very much by your units because of the fear of disturbing neighbours so this area was essential. The play area though was large really charming and well equipped. First half of the week we did have a problem there were some very ‘tough kids’ around and we were concerned about allowing the 6 year old in our party playing without close supervision.

Where my sister in law was pitched there were clear wafts from the chemical disposal point, which stank. It was not helped by the distribution of chicken manure that had been spread on adjoining fields whist we were there. It is the only type of manure I find problem… but to be fair that is just life in the countryside. What I did not think was on though was how the tiny tots play area was ‘slapbang’ next to the chemical disposal point, which was not screened off in anyway. It really turned my stomach watching small kids play there.

The staff were very helpful, kind and laid back. There was a shop that sold a few basics. There was a snack van that sold burgers and chips etc. And roast dinners with chips… Now I know to many this would be appealing but the waft of fat from this did not add to my experience…. And the thought of curry sauce over chips makes me want to retch. However the offer of fried breakfast in the morning was a real plus point and for some the chips and grease catering was welcome.

An outdoor centre visited the site once a week to offer clay pigeon shooting which was a great idea. Good range of shops in Annan. Bruce’s famous cave is set on this site and is worth a look.

There are some short walks through the woodland down to a river, but you cannot branch off as you are totally fenced in and all walks lead you back the campsite, this made me feel totally imprisoned. Unfortunately the dog owning fraternity had not seen fit to clear up the excrement from their dogs on these walks! Clean it up people we like the dogs but not the smelly packages.

Drive away from the campsite beyond Dumfries and the countryside becomes wonderful, plenty of castles which all ages loved, and nature reserves. We did not have a chance to go on any of the organised nature walks in the area but would have loved to and there were ones suitable for all ages. About an hour away is outdoor lakeside adventure area and we spent a day there giving the lifeguards a lot of work fishing us out of the lake, great fun. The adventure centre I notice also had camping facilities and I was very tempted to move. Conclusion: would not go back unless it was for a swift overnight on the way to the highlands. For an overnight stop would be brilliant.

Spent 7 nights there mid aug fantastic site. Loads to do and owners who understand camping and campers needs. The toilets and shower block was exceptional with a bath and two disabled showers/family shower rooms.
massive area for washing up with 3 sinks with double drainers.
Never found a cue there.
Shop on site had almost everything you could need in an emergency and the butty / food van on site was great and very reasonably priced ( and clean).
Would be back in a blink of and eye.

Just one thing if you cant sleep on a slope you may struggle although there are fat pitches too.( I slept fine on the slope, so much so that I will be raising my bed on bricks).
Go enjoy A++ site reccommended

Hmmm, bit of a funny one this site. Its a nice enough site, but the most laid back i've ever stayed at. Basically you pitch where you want, and so does everybody else, at times it can look like Glastonbury because there is so many people crammed on the field, so if your relaxed about that then fine, but if you like your own space a bit, this place isn't for you.

The owners were nice and friendly, but the electric hook up was only 6 amps, which can cause a problem, and showers got quite mucky and smelly. There is only one waste drain on the site which can be a bit of a walk and the water pressure is terrible for filling up your water containers.

The sites location is great for easy access to the major routes, but theres not much in close proximity to do.

We have been to Bruce's cave a view times now and have always enjoyed the relaxed, friendly atmosphere that this site and its staff offer. Nothing is too much trouble and the site is very well kept, with excellent amenities.

We are already booked to go back again this year and hope to explore more of the wonderful area around the site and spend more time relaxing in the historic surroundings of this site!
