2012 is our second summer that we have visited Toms Field in the New Forest (not to be confused with the Toms field in Dorset) after being recommended to it by friends who had originally found it.
From the moment you arrive it is clear to see why it is so popular. Tom and Tina make you feel as if one of the family, they seem to remember your name which is lovely. Their son is great as well, although we did not see him this year, last year spent quite a while with us and our friends chatting away and helping us make our fire, a child who lives for the outdoor life. Yes you are allowed fires as long as they are in a container (They are provided along with wood and kindling) which makes the evenings very pleasant especially on a chilly evening.
The one real big bonus here is they have an ‘Adult ‘only area, there is room for about a dozen tents. Only thing is sometimes the kids like to ride their bikes through and you do need to remind them that it adults only! Maybe if the parents with kids were informed on arrival, it may also help to have a sign as you drive into the wooded area saying adults only as well. However this is the only very minor issue with the place.
The shower facilities are fine always kept clean with plenty of hot water, lovely soap provided at the hand basins which is a treat when camping and the washing up area is fine with 2 sinks. These are situated at the end of the shower block which is at the end of the family camping and just before you enter the adult area. They also have a large freezer at the reception area for freezing your ice packs. A small village shop comes for about an hour on Saturday and Sunday morning selling everything from newspapers to the essential. Tom comes around and tells us they have arrived. None of the pitches have electric hook up.
Views are stunning and although you are close to the road if on the right hand side of the camp site you don’t really notice the traffic as it is not that heavy and the cars should be doing 40mph as it is in the heart of the New Forest!
If wishing to hire out bikes you need to walk to Sandy Balls which takes about 20 minutes it is just past the Fighting Cocks pub, turn right out of the camp site. They have a selection of maps depending on your ability, length of journey etc. A truly great day which we have done each time we have been at Toms Field. Sandy Balls also has a shop and there are restaurants which you can use.
We never take our car out till we go home but if you have kids there is plenty to do all within a short driving distance from the campsite.
They only open at weekends during July and August and the May Bank Holidays; it’s popular so booking early is essential.

Just returned from our 1st visit to Tom’s Field this weekend, what a joy it was to find such a reasonably priced site considering the outstanding view and the size of the pitches, together with the willingness of the owner Tom to help us campers at all times.
The site itself has about 50 generous size pitches, is long and narrow with tents pitched either side, this left the middle clear for all sorts of games and activities, although full to the brim this site was very quiet and peaceful thanks mainly to the no music policy, the 11:30 cut off for noisy behaviour, I can see why this site is so popular with young families and the like, I spoke to a few people who repeatedly come here and they all say it’s one of the best small camp sites in the South of England, and I can see why, it even has its own small Adults only copse for those couples who like to be tucked away from kids hustle and bustle.
It’s not an all singing and dancing site, but it makes up for it by the following, a small but clean shower/toilet block that was cleaned 2/3 time during the day, an abundant supply of hot water as well for the washing up facilities, they have a free freezer block service and the local village post office / shop comes on Sat/Sun mornings for about an hour to sell local produce, papers etc.
All in all, this site hit the spot for us and we will be back in the very near future.

This was my second visit to Tom's Field and it was as lovely as I remembered.
In my view it is fairly expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of location, ambience and space.
Echoing comments made by others it is a great environment for young children, You can properly relax knowing that they are in a welcoming and safe place.
The one toilet block is not great but it does the job - it's a site for short breaks not week long stays after all.
Visiting community shop and the ability to borrow freezer blocks are nice touches.

We have just spent three nights at Tom's Field and would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a small, family (& dog) friendly campsite.
All the essentials well catered for, plenty of hot water, clean showers, friendly knowledgeable owners (Tom & Tina) who can point you in the direction of a good pub meal and a good day out.
Local Village shop provides a daily delivery service, with lovely fresh baked bread and all other camping necessities.
The kids loved it and would have happily spent every day playing with other children on the site.
Bricks provided to put BBQ's and firepits on.
Will definitely go back. Need to book, as popular, and we can see why!

Warm welcome on arrival. We booked late for the Whitsun weekend and only wanted to stay 2 nights but becasue of the bank holiday we had to pay for 3 nights. Although upon leaving someone had booked for the sunday night so we only paid for the two nights we stayed.
Location was great for walking into the New Forest and the local pub, 5 minutes walk away served reasonable food.
We made use of the freezer block facilities which worked well. Shower and toilet facilities were in a portable cabin and were adequate for our needs.
Pitch was a little stony but had a lovely view over the forrest as we were in the adults only section past the main family field.
A travelling shop came by every morning but we didn't make use of it.

Just spent a fabulous four days at Toms Field. When we arrived we were told to look around and pitch where we chose. We were reminded that people may be out for the day so to take returning cars into consideration, which I thought was a nice touch.
There was plenty of room and we had lots of choice re pitching when we arrived, although towards the weekend it became busier. However, they put the 'site closed' sign up when there were spaces that could have been filled so I didn't get the feeling that we were being packed in.
The area we were in was narrowish so you can feel as if you are camping very close to your (opposite) neighbours. However, everyone nearly everyone respected the quiet rules- bar one woman who didn't seem to understand how far her voice could carry!
Facilities were good- shower temp was a bit difficult for our daughter to negotiate by herself, never ran out of loo roll and very clean. Great recycling, bricks for bbq's, drinking water available.
Shop well stocked- lots of veggie stuff which makes a nice change for me! All usuals, including a selection of books which was great for OH as he finished his on site.
One of the best things about the site was the freedom it gave our daughter. It's small and felt safe. We were able to let her explore and make new friends without us. She had a fabulous time and has swapped email adds with a friend she met.
The only artificial light is near the shop and at the loo block so you get an amazing look at the night sky.
Would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet, camping experience.
Can't wait to return.

We visited for the unusually hot easter weekend and - as always at Tom's Field had a great time.
I first visited the site 10 years ago with my first daughter and a couple of mates with their kids - mums left at home. We've visited the site many times since and been to many other sites but Tom's field is the family favourite.
We've even been burgled by a local badger taking bread from inside our tent in the early hours of the morning - quite exciting!
The showers and toilets are a bit tired but work fine and have a charm of their own. The little shop is great and the staff have always been excellent and very hard working.
The location is brilliant with easy walks down to dancing ledge or along the coast to Swanage through Durleston Country Park. Lovely views and sheep in the adjacent field.
There are a veriety of different pitching areas, against bushes, open space or dry stone walls - all flat.
We love Swanage for family holidays especially the seafood stall in town, town beach, Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay for fossils, the steam railway and the top quality beaches at Studland.
Can't wait to get back.

Great little camp site. Tom managed to squeeze us in last minute and gave us a pitch near the toilet block/showers making it clear to us that this pitch is the last one he normally rents out due to noise, size etc.
We were more than happy and so was our 8mx3m tent. It got a little noisy towards bedtime however we have children so enjoyed sitting back and watching their excitement.
All went quiet after 9pm. We did a lot of walking but with most of this area we did use our car a lot, there is so much to see. Would definitely go back again.

Came here on recommendation from friends who visits 5/6 times a season and was not disappointed, we came with our 4 young children who loved every minute of it, it is a very safe site as there is only one main gate and the kids were free to explore in safety.
It is a small narrow site with just 50 generous size marked pitches, leaving the centre strip for games, playing, kite flying etc, the shower block is small but adequate and kept clean at all times, also 2 large washing up sinks, hot water was in constant supply at all times.
The area its situated in gives access to many good walks in the New Forest, and the views from the camp site is to be believed.
There is no EHU, Bar, Pool, Caravans, Shop, But what they do have is, Peace and Quite with a no music policy, no noise after 23.30hrs, Dogs to be kept under control at all times, Free Freezer block facilities, and a travelling local shop that calls at about 08:30 for about 45 mins, this peaceful setup suits us all fine, but it would not be to everyone’s taste, especially those that like the all action style noisy campsites.
Tom & Tina (the Owners) could not have been more helpful, nothing was to much trouble for them and they treat all there “guests” superbly.
It’s a shame that they only open at weekends during the season, however, we will be back next year and are sorting our dates right now, as they get booked up very quickly.
Our 4 youngsters could not have enjoyed themselves anymore than at this site, they made many friends and expelled a lot of energy, who needs TV, Ps3’s, Gameboys, Pc’s when you have the great outdoors like this site provides, Well done Tom & Tina, See you in 2011.

A friendly site run by Tom & Tina. Quite a small site so book early to avoid disappointment. The pitches are marked out and generous in size. Tom's field is ideally located to explore the newforest and the coast.
A freezer is provided in the barn for iceblocks which can be borrowed for a deposit. There are freshwater points every couple of pitches. The site is situated at the top of a valley and was quite exposed during inclement weather, for the first two days of our stay. On the final day the clouds lifted revealing a breathtaking panorama of the newforest, well worth the wait.
There is a child/dog friendly pub The Fighting Cocks 5/10 minutes walk down the road. The abloutions were basic but adequate. They were cleaned twice a day during our stay however there are only two showers and sinks each in the mens and womens showers which also contain the toilets leading to a bit of a crush at peak times. Due to my son's knack of waking before six am I was able to miss the rush unlike my wife!
The adjoining field contained ponies which tucked into bike saddles, towels, bin bags and anything else left against the fence be warned! On Saturday and Sundays a mobile shop provides essentials from bread, milk, papers at reasonable cost.
The kids loved making new friends, with only one entrance we were able to allow our three year old to run free in safety. The next time we visit the forest we will return to Tom's field without doubt.
