I've been going to this site every year four five years now. I've been lucky to go out of school holidays so I've had the site pretty much to myself or with my girlfriend.
The site is easy to find from the motorway although I wouldn't fancy getting a caravan down the narrow lane. The site is split into two fields, one with a few statics and electric hookups for tourers. The tent field is a large, flat and is easy to peg with a river running at the bottom. Picnic tables are also down near the river.
If you want total peace and quiet then this is the site for you. You can have fires on the floor which is a rarity. Wood can be bought from the cafe at £5 a bag. The owners are friendly but leave you alone to do your own thing.
There are two play areas for kids, one is an inside area which is open in the school holiday and the other is near the camping field. Its great to walk around the farm and meet all the animals. My girlfriend loved the many cats that hang around the farm, a few even came to visit the tent as well.
The toilets are not the greatest with a shared block for men and women with two showers and a sink for washing up which is located near the farm house. I really don't mind the spider webs and the occasional swallow nest. At the end of the day you are on a working farm. You do always however have hot water for the showers and sinks. Its a great back to basics camp site but I do understand that families with young kids might not find this there cup of tea.
The surrounding area is lovely, there are two nature trails that you get maps for when you arrive that take you round the farms 120 acres. The walk to Sedbergh shows you some awesome views and takes about 40 minutes. The final hill can be a bit of a killer. There's plenty of cafe's and two pubs. One sells a great variety of gin but be warned its damn expensive. (2 gins+1 tonic= £22!) There is a great butchers and green grocers and a odds and sods shop where you can camping gas from.
There is very little light pollution here too which means if your lucky enough to get a clear sky then your in for a real treat.
I work long hours with having a pub so when I get the time to sneak off for a couple of nights I make this site one of my small oasis. Helps that my phone doesn't work when I get there.

Well, we have just returned from a week at this site.
Initial thoughts were not that good, but as the days passed, this site grows on you.
I arrived with our tent, following the directions given by the site. The road along to the farm from the main road is a single track road with few passing places. You need to be confident in your reversing skills to use it!
We had an electric pitch and were on a big open field with the static caravans. Pitch was ample size, although if we had had a neighbour, it would have been cosier than some other sites.
The positive side of this site is the peace this site offers, even being on a working farm. We didn't mind the roosters cock-a-doodling at all times of the day and night! Being able to walk around the farm and see the animals is a lovely touch and our little boy loved getting up and personal with the sheep and goats.
Unfortunately, the toilet/shower block is the worst part of this site. Male and female toilets are in the same block, although the males are on one side and females on the other. Not bad you may think, but the showers are in the door before you even hit the toilets. I found this a bit uncomfortable, especially when it came to my 3 year old. Anyone could walk by (passed the closed door granted) while we were showering. Writing this now doesn't sound too bad but it isn't the most pleasant feeling when you are there!
Overall, this site is beautiful and a definite grower but for me, I feel the farm is trying to do too many things, ie working farm, open farm, static caravan site and campsite and they are bound to fall somewhere. Unfortunately for us it was the camping side that failed when it came to the toilet/shower block. It is such a shame because it offers so much.

Great for families!
We just spent 2 nights at this campsite and really enjoyed it! This is our idea of camping. It's a working farm with goats, piglets, kittens and hens running around the place, which our children loved. Not to mention the sheep, cows and pony in the fields.
They allow campfires, that's unbeatable for us! Fire wood can also be bought from their shop. We loved the field itself, flat and good grass length, what made it even better was that they leave some long grass in the middle, this makes it more private from the people on the other side of the field and great exploring territory for the little ones.
It poured it down for a night and day while we were there but it did not matter as we took them into the indoor play soft play area and with a little peddle tractor circuit. There is a little cafe that was nice, with a gift shop and some art.
When the weather was nice there is an outdoor park. We went for a walk on the nature trail, it was fantastic! It was a beautiful, quiet and peaceful walking adventure, along the river, up over and along fields, mature trees, little woodlands, along the old railway line with lovely views.
The toilets and showers are also quite typical farm and not for the Arachnophobe but hot water was always available!

Stayed for one night.
The field is great. Large and flat and almost empty while we were there.
They allow camp fires and will even sell you some logs.
The cafe is lovely and the owner great.
The road to the site is very narrow and steep.
The place is really let down by the toilet/shower block. These are effectively shared male / female / farm visitor facilities. If you don't like spiders then this is not the place for you. The water pressure in the shower I used was almost non existent.
In summary the field and people are great. Toilet/Shower block is bad, shame really.

We camped for 3 nights, just after the easter weekend.
The site was deserted, and we had the total run of the place.
As with all sites, this one has its good and bad points.
Good points-beautiful rural and quiet location, on site café and shop are fantastic, camp fires are permitted, prices are reasonable, pitch where you want in a level, tent field, farmer leaves you alone to be yourself, small playground for kids, lots of farm animals to see, only 10 minutes to motorway junction,
Bad points - toilets very basic, site is a working farm and is slightly neglected, not suitable for caravans due to very narrow access road,
Things to do locally are- fishing at Kendal, swimming at Kendal, and do visit the chippy in Sedbergh, local biking and walking are first class.
We will return to this relaxed, no frills site again.

Cracking site. Love the fact you can have open fires, large pitches, no electric hook up.
We stayed bank holiday weekend and still plenty of room, even though said was full.
Great location for biking and walking. Kids enjoyed playing in the river and marshmallows.
Nice brunch in the cafe basic but good.
Only downside is the toilets could do with some improving.
Whilst there we visited Wensleydale creameries at hawes - great tour and love the cheese room.
Also had pub lunches in Sedbergh - the Bull and the Dalesman both very good and would recommend.
Also worth noting if camping here and live in cumbria you can get 20% discount with a mycumbriacard.

Just returned from a one night stay at Holme Open Farm. The camping field was quiet and spacious, we enjoyed marshmallows over an open fire. After a walk up the 300m local hill, Holme Knott we enjoyed a lovely homemade lunch sat outside the cafe. The children particularly enjoyed playing with the farm kittens, riding on the toy tractors in the enclosed shed area and playing in the soft play area. The toilet/washing facilities were basic but adequate for a short stay. Hope to return with bikes next time so we can cycle some of the Dales Way.

Absolutely loved this place! It as a last minute booking, although their website advised they don't allow groups as they are more family orientated when I rang and explained it was just two couples they were fine with this.
It's a lovely campsite based on a working farm with roosters, hens and goats free roaming. Although we didn't take any children with us we noticed loads of facilities for them including a small park and a indoor play area.
We were welcomed in a cute little cafe on site by the farmers wife, she was happy to explain what the camp and surrounding area had to offer including two nature trails.
The toilets and showers were basic but clean which was the main point. We arrived on site early so had the pick of the large field to pitch up. The surrounding area is stunning, beautiful hills and a river that runs right at the side of the camp, shallow enough in places that another group had bought nets that are sold in the cafe took their children down to see what they could catch.
At night the campsite was peaceful but I will say that there was not that many other people there at the time (did start to fill up as we were leaving) so I can't say if that's always the case. We were allowed small campfires and wood was available to by from Tue farmhouse/cafe.
All-round I think this is a great little campsite and is well worth a visit.

Road leading up to site is single track with few passing places can be a nightmare if you are towing.
Camping field is quite flat and easy to pitch, open fires are allowed, logs available from shop or farm, the field can get very waterlogged and muddy when raining not very good when our climate seems to be getting wetter, camp site owners need to pay more attention to a drainage or ensuring the field for tents have reasonable drainage unfortunate as with a lot of camp sites the best facilities seem to be for the caravans who technically bring there own facilities anyway.
Toilet block very small and although it has a sign to say which side is for male and female, they are technically shared facilities including one washing up point, the roof leaks and it did not seem to be cleaned during the weekend we where there. The hot water was available and 2 hot showers complete with cold drips from the roof are available.
Has a nice little cafe on site selling a small range of food and beverages and small gifts open from about 10am
This is an open farm and the facilities at the farm seem to be for farm visitors and not specifically for the campers although you can use them, although children cannot walk around them unaccompanied. Also cows do not seem to sleep at night so be aware that if you cannot sleep without quiet then your not going to sleep just remember its a working farm so make sure you don't mind farm noises, we don't so no problem.
Overall a pleasant site in a nice area but camping facilities very basic.

New to caravanning last year so not sure what to expect overall for the money.
So where to start, unless you are confident towing this site isn’t for you. Check the site road out on Google, it is a loop that thankfully only serves the farms so no traffic to speak of but trees on the edge of the single track have you spending nearly as much time looking in your mirrors as looking forwards on the other hand if you have kids they can safely use bikes on the road.
I found the facilities basic for the price charged but the location was idyllic with walks through fields of sheep and cattle or along the river.
The camping field had many families on it and if I was 10 yrs old again I would have been in heaven with camp fires allowed, I can still taste potatoes burnt black cooked in a fire MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
I can recommend if your in Sedbergh the chippy, large cod and chips shared on the bench opposite, more than enough for two and is a memory that lasts.
So as a caravanner is this site worth the fee for the facilities, probably not, did I enjoy it, yes very much.
This is an enigmatic site that the sum is more than the parts, we spent more time enjoying it than using it as a base.
