Huge field which was mown twice while we were there. 2 standpipes in field and shower/toilet/washing up facilities were good as far as campsites go and were cleaned every day. Lots of wildlife in toilet block including spiders and hedgehogs and kittens which was fab! Had to chase pigs out of the children's play area on the first day we got there and they also came to visit our tent on a couple of occasions which was brilliant.
Burning the wood they sell on site would have been very expensive for the week but there are plenty of places to find wood for free (or buy it cheaply) in the locality, and it is great being able to have a bonfire every night.
The activities on site are good including a great walk and a badger hide which were both great.
I was a bit upset that they insisted on charging even for the baby (unusual to be honest)

Been here twice now and going next week. Cannot wait. If you are after a chilled out weekend in the country getting back to nature then this is the place to go.
Price?? 2 nights will set you back £16 of the realm for a 2 man tent. Pretty reasonable. Highlights? Unrestricted campfires. The farmer even sells the wood for 4 quid a pop. Or be Ray Mears for the weekend and have a roam in the nearby woods to gather your own wood.(lighting the fella can be a choker so bring firelighters).
Beautiful views, bathe in the clean river, drink a skinfull with the lads. Or for the bairns there's a farm tour and a meet and greet the lambs etc. Farmer is spot on and will lend a hand. The perfect, no hastle, back to nature weekend at Holme Open Farm.
Things to be aware of.
Yes you probably know by now the toilets and showers are poor. Very poor. A converted barn with a little wooden door. Ladies to the right, lads to the left with potwash straight ahead. If you want privacy forget it. If you suffer from shycock you might as well not even bother. But look at it this way, it's all about leaving everyday life behind and embracing the chance to get back to basics. Get a bath in the river that's all we did.
Getting there.
2 ways to get there. The standard route which is signposted
As you drive out the west of the nearby town of Sedburgh. Along a B road then along a track with no places to pass so just cross your fingers nobody is coming towards you and floor it all the way! Then there's the other way in which if you are not accustomed to rural terrain (and neither is your 1997 Micra) you will struggle big time. If you find yourself opening huge gates and skidding to avoid sheep you know you have gone the hard route. Trust me just follow the signs driving west out of Sedburgh.
Pubs/Shops
Nearest pub is in Sedburgh. 90 mins walk. Over the river and along a path.
The farm has a shop. Sells milk, bacon, eggs etc. Lunchbox for kids. Reasonable prices.

We stayed at the site in may and had a great time, my 9yr old daughter loved exploring the farm and we always knew her and the new friends she made were never far away. My 2yr old son could not believe the freedom he had chasing the piglets around and being able to interact with the animals was so much fun to watch.
The farmer was very nice and helpful on the phone but the farmers wife could be a little more helpful as she only pointed directions out of her front door, after this we didn't see anyone else (apart from other campers).
The toilets and shower are very basic, but all in all we had a fab time, the views and sedbergh it's self make up for the minor downsides. Very good prices, we would definitely go again.

Just come back from our first camping trip and have to say this is a lovely site, the views are fab, the field was huge and you can pitch your tent anywhere. I was on my own with 2 kids and they loved it, campfire was fab. I certainly didn't mind spending £4 a time on firewood which we used 3 a night, not much else to spend money on there and it was really chilly,
Cafe was nice but little bit pricey, £1.20 for a can of coke. The farmer is nice, seemed to be here there and everywhere and was helpful, the farmers wife was ok but could do with some extra customer relation skills, All other campers were very friendly,
Washing facilities were basic but great as its not a 5 star hotel. It was £12 a night for 3 of us, tent and car. All in all I honestly thought I would hate camping but after being to this site, I loved it, didn't want to leave and can`t wait to come back.!

We visited this site after viewing their website which looked great but was quite disappointed. As we arrived we were told there was a scrambling event on in the next field for two days which wasn't mentioned when booked. The entrance to the field was thick mud so we left the van in the car park for fear of getting stuck. The rules state no loud music after 11pm which wasn't adhered to as the caravan over the fence was doing just that until 3am when my husband had a word. The shower block was basic, 2 unisex showers, 3 ladies and 1 mens toilet and 1 wash-up area. The area is picturesque and we had a lovely walk by the river, the food was excellent in the cafe and it's good to see the farm animals. Sedbergh 2.6 miles away has a spar shop and an excellent chinese take away, Happy Valley. The track to camp is narrow, take the shortest route in, at £12 per night for 5 of us it's cheap, but consider your requirements.

Seen this campsite on website, went for 3 nights with 2 teenagers! they loved it. Prices excellent, flat field, camp fires( what a bonus!)really enjoyed the walks by the river.
Showers basic but hot, loved the nesting swallows in the toilets. Well situated and easy to get to. Peaceful and relaxing. Take plenty of wood for your fire. Will definitely go again. Really good site for families and little ones, SAFE! ENJOY!

Beautiful area and wonderful views from the campsite did make this a lovely place to camp.
Myself and two friends found this campsite on the internet and thought wow, we have to try there, we were slightly disappointed.
We stayed for two nights, and maybe it was because we had no children with us but we did not receive a very warm welcome. The first thing you get given is a set of camp rules, fair enough. Then you are told that you can not pick up any fallen wood for your campfire, the bags of wood are £4 each, not very large and it was a chilly evening, we went through 3 of these in total, we also got an even chillier reception from the house when we went and asked for more despite the fact that it was not late. We found more from elsewhere for our next night!
There is an on site cafe attached to the farm but it is a little pricey. No one checked the campsite after people left, you were told by the rules to recycle, but we were told they didn't care, just put it anywhere by the owners. The showers are warm, not hot, and although it does not specify in the rules times for hot(ish) water for washing dishes when half the campsite went to do theirs there was not even warm water coming out of the taps.
There is really nowhere to walk to for food, a car is essential. A short drive will take you into Sedbergh but Kendal had better shops.
We did enjoy our time here, but it was because of the area and fellow campers, certainly not from the customer service!
If you are looking for a truely great campsite for kids then go for it, its a huge playground for them, if you are looking for a warm welcome you will be dissapointed.
The farm website could benefit from a bit more information for campers, then you could arrive more prepared, or chose a campsite more suited to you.

We spent £70 for 5 nights for a piece of grass as there were no facilities!
The field that the tents were in, the grass was too long (you would think with the start of the season that he would have got his grass cut short to make it look neat and easy access for the campers as there is no paths. With it raining, you got soaked walking through the long grass.
The toilets, showers and washing up area are all in the one building. This is a very small extension onto the side of their house! It consists of 2 showers for all the site, one being out of order, leaving only 1 shower for everyone! In the female toilets there were 3 cubicles, with only one having a light! 2 sinks, one hanging off the wall with no where to hang or put any of your belongings.
Bearing all this in mind; none of the walls and ceilings have been lined so you are sharing the toilet block with lots and lots of spiders! The whole 5 nights we stayed( if we hadn't paid in advance we would have went elsewhere) the toilets were never cleaned!
We do basic, but this was beyond that, feel the farmer just didn't put enough into his camp site but was charging a fair price!

Large field, lovely weather and campfires what more could you ask?! Lovely views of the hills and not far from Sedbergh, Dent or Kendal for supplies. £12 a night for 6 berth tent, not bad. The access road is narrow but it is in the country and it's part of the charm. You can get to Dent along this road too, very scenic. Facilities fairly basic but then I camp to get away from it all. It is a bit odd using the toilet whilst you can hear people washing up, bit like going the toilet in someone's kitchen!
Will go again with kids next time, even if weather's not as good campfire should sort it. You can buy wood but we took our own then scavenged nearby woods on the second night.
There's a cafe but didn't sample that or the farm tours, playground and badger watching, saving those for kids' visit.

Visited this site over the bank holiday weekend with our friends who were towing their caravan. Be careful which route you take in as I believe one of the ways isn't good for a caravan. The approach road to the site is a bit of a nightmare, its seems about a mile long but is only wide enough for one vehicle and there aren't many passing places. Three times during our stay I had to reverse down the lane looking for a place to pull over to allow oncoming vehicles to get by. The toilets and showers and washing up facilities are all in the same building. It was busy over the weekend and I think the facilities struggled at times to cope with demand.
We pitched our tent on the caravan field so we could camp with our friends. There was a lot of room and the views around the site are beautiful. We had a proper campfire every night and you need a canny bit of wood for that. You can buy firewood from the farm at a fiver a bag but there is nothing stopping you taking your own. Lovely site, kids enjoyed the farm tour and there is a cafe as well.
The access road and basic facilities have put me off trying it again though which is a shame cos its a cracking site otherwise.
