Have not rated this site so highly as some others that we have visited simply because of the difficulty of accessing the services when in a motorhome. The price paid for a MH pitch included the ehu and I presume the assumption that you are going to fill your water tank. However we could find no way of getting our MH close enough to any of the fresh water points and our hose could not be used due to the problems attaching it to very old taps where the site's existing short hoses could not be removed. I then object to paying for showers when we can't fill with water to use own onboard facilities. I am sure that if you are in a tent of caravan the facilities are fine, but I do not expect a site that welcomes motorhomes, not to cater for them. The site next to a landfill/refuse facility with nothing in close walking distance means that you really do have to want to get away from it all to enjoy this site. The owner was friendly and welcoming but we will not be returning to pay for facilities that we cannot access.

This site is delightful. The owners are very welcoming and keep the site immaculate. The toilets and showers are very clean and regularly checked to ensure that they remain that way.

The two fields are fairly level and units are sited so that children have a good area in the middle to play and are well catered for with toys, bikes and a slide etc. Small children will enjoy seeing the chickens and alpacas.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, and very close to Harlech where the castle dominates, this is a good base for visiting Barmouth and other favourite resorts.

The site is very quiet, not overcrowded even when full and we cant wait to go back again. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a wonderful camp site with a very welcoming and helpful owner, a beautiful situation near the sea with Harlech castle nearby and a lovely wild headland overlooking the site.

It is only 10 minutes by car from the town of Harlech with its castle, shops and amenities.

We used the campsite as a base for walking for which it is very well positioned.

The toilet block was spotless with soap and toilet paper always provided. There was a washing machine and good washing up facilities.

Our pitch was very generous on an open sunny spot and the site was not at all crowded, even in August. The only slight drawback was that it could be windy as there was only a lowish hedge to shelter the site on the seaward side, but this didn't cause a problem. We had a wonderful holiday there and would happily return and recommend it to anyone.

One of Gwynedd's best kept secrets is the Tanforhesgan Farm, Williams family run campsite at Ynys, near Harlech. We visited due to a friends' recommendation intending to stay for the weekend but stayed for the week! I think the most striking thing is the quiet. It took three days of getting used to the silence (apart from the sheep with their lambs!) before we could just barely make out the sounds of the main road and nearby recycling centre. There's a nice woodland walk nearby, you could believe you were in a prehistoric forest with dinosaurs hiding in the undergrowth. There's a steep hill at the side of the site that's well worth the climb, to see Portmeirion, Porthmadog, Borth y Gest, Black Rock sands (just!), Criccieth and the rest of the LLeyn Peninsula, all with the Snowdonia range backdrop.

There are two paddocks for camping, one very flat, the other slightly uneven (tent and guy spikes went in easy and gripped firmly), with 18 electrical hook-ups between the two and they both drained very quickly after heavy rain. The only down side of the flat surroundings can be the wind, which can swirl and change direction without warning, so awning tie-downs and guy rope double-pegging are recommended.

With enough room for forty but with a licence only for twenty (no hardstanding), you can appreciate the already spacious pitches, then, Mrs Williams expressed her principal of sticking to 16 pitches at any one time to preserve the large space and privacy! This also has the effect of easy access to the three showers (20p a time), 4 WC's (2 Ladies only) pot washing area, utility room with washing machine, dryer (both reasonably priced with an evening curfew to prevent disturbing other guests), steam iron and hairdryer. All area's are kept immaculately clean and there's a collection of bins for rubbish segregation and recycling. There's a drinking water point on each paddock and one combined chemical toilet/grey water disposal point near the main building. There's also a pair of six berth static vans, if you prefer more camping comfort for £270 per week £280 peak season!

It's a child and pet friendly site, with space for ball games and even a limited number of children's bikes and toys for guest use. There's plenty of dog walking areas, but just be aware that sheep are grazing nearby so you may have to keep your dog on the lead.

The site is ideally situated midway between Porthmadog and Barmouth and just 2 miles from Harlech, with it's famed castle, popular golf course and stunning sand dunes. There's an excellent swimming pool and climbing wall at the leisure centre, with a nice cafe that's open for breakfast and lunch and has a very big menu. There's no beach access from the site so you may choose to access the beach via the Harlech beach pay-and-display car park, but be prepared for quite a hike through the dunes.

We like to take a ride to Black Rock sands near Porthmadog, or Barmouth beach but if you prefer somewhere less commercial, there's the beach accessed at Talybont (just as you enter Talybont from the Harlech direction watch for the brown beach access sign on the right). There's a pay and display car park, but if your early, there's limited free roadside parking space, then, a short boardwalk between the dunes, down some shingle to a glorious sandy beach. A word of caution though, this beach has a naturist section, so please pay attention to the beach map as you enter, then enjoy your day.

So, if you're looking for somewhere to unwind (with better value than some nearby sites with fewer facilities), this little piece of heaven is for you, but as they say on the Secret Escapes ads, 'let's keep this strictly between us'!

We arrived at campsite using a sat nav, which if you come from the north takes you via a farm track to a back entrance, best to stay on main road for another 200 yards and come via main entrance, its ok if you're coming from the Harlech direction.

The site is nice and big, although not well sheltered if the weather was windy, it has a pleasant toilet and shower block, the showers being 20p and there was enough time for a good wash.

Harlech itself is a very nice village/town with a castle (which looks worth a visit but we didn't have time), the beach is well worth spending a whole day there although its a good 5 min walk from the car park which cost £4. 50 for the day.

We will be going back.

We have just returned from two weeks at this site. It was a last minute booking as another site let us down - and I am so glad they did. Tanforhesgan Farm is a lovely peaceful relaxing site surrounded by great views, run by friendly and helpful people.

Mrs Williams gave us a great spot for our two caravans, we practically had our own 'territory' in a corner of the field. Our two dogs had a the run of the pitch and loved the fresh air and exercise.

The facilities were always clean, there was never a queue, lovely warm showers at 20p, more than adequate. There is also a washing machine and dryer, and even a communal washing line.

We forgot our tv, not wanting to watch much but were looking forward to the Olympic opening ceremony. Mrs Williams arranged with a local supplier who rented us a ortable tv for £20 and even came out and set it all up for us.

Porthmadog is about 8 miles away - make sure you have 50p for the toll road. There is a Tesco there and Aldi and Lidl. Harlech, 2 miles down the road has a Spar and Premier stores. Harlech is a lovely little town with some great ice-cream shops. Visit the Castle for a bargain £3. 80, climb the ramparts for some stunning views across the coast.

We took a train to Fairbourne for less than £7 each, a trip down the coast line which rewarded us with a view of dolphins swimming in Cardigan Bay. Visit also Nantcol Waterfalls at Llanbedr - a hidden gem. There lots of lovely quiet dog-friendly beaches in the area. We went to Harlech, Barmouth, Shell Island, Black Rock Sands, our dogs have never had it so good !

We spent our evenings sat outside our caravans eating nice meals, having a drink and putting the world to rights. We had an 11 year old with us and despite there being not much for him to do in an evening, he never complained and was quite happy to sit, feed the horses and play with the dogs.

There is a hill at the back of Tanforhesgan which is worth the climb for the views over the Lleyn peninsular, and especially across to Portmeirion, but if you don't feel like climbing it just sit, relax and watch the sheep grazing on it.

If I return to this part of Wales I would definitely go back to Tanforhesgan Farm.

We stayed here for 3 nights and arrived after heavy rain fall. The pitch was well drained and did not have any problems setting up.

The site is off the main road and very quiet, close to the beach and about 40 minutes stroll to harlech through the fields.

We visited the castle and went to portmadog via train as buses are not good.

The showers and toilets were very clean and everything around the site was in good order. We will go again as it was peaceful, good value and clean. The owner was very helpful and friendly.

Small complaint no waste water drain for motorhomes.

Lovely quiet site hidden up a track about two miles from lower Harlech. Facilities spotless and very reasonably priced at £6 for an adult, £3. 50 for a 12-16 years old and £2 for under 12s.

Went with my brother, his girlfriend and his girlfriend's five years old daughter and a mate of ours. Loads of space for the little one to run around. Run by very nice people - Mrs Williams even came over to our group as we were packing to leave to ask if we had enjoyed our stay and stated that it was lovely having us.

Will go again.

Me and my partner stayed over the jubilee weekend and what a nice site to stay on. We where met on arrival by Mrs Williams and what a lovely lady she is, not to over crowded and very clean, we had no problem taking the dog and there is a small forest to walk her in and we were ten minutes from the beach and a golf course near by to. Harlech town is just down the road and is a beautiful place to visit, we will be visiting this site again very soon.

We have recently visited this campsite and must say what a fantastic time we had. The family who run the site are the nicest people you could want to meet, even Scooby the farm dog was great. It is peaceful and relaxed only 2 mins from Harlech, 20 mins from Porthmadog. The hill next to the capsite has views that make you go WOW!, you can see from Shell island to Abersoch and right into Snowdonia. Take your camera because you look straight into Portmerion.

The facilities on the site are simple but spotless, the pitches are flat and dry as it is basically grass on top of sand, so drain quickly. Would we go again, yes 100% yes.
