A very nice laid-back site. We phoned on spec and arrived at the site 10 minutes later.
There are a number of pitches around 2 fields with EHU available along the fence line, water is available but not on the pitch.
No hard standings but the field is fairly level. We didn't use the toilets or showers (there is an extra charge for showers).
Our hosts were very welcoming and the site was very peaceful, we enjoyed our stay there.

We have just returned from a lovely fortnight at Tanforhesgan. Mrs Williams was very welcoming. The site is lovely and flat. Facilities very clean and have been recently renovated by the look of it.
We like peace and quiet and plenty of space. If that is also what you want then this could be perfect for you too.
Perfect location for exploring North and Mid Wales by car, bike or train. You can catch the train in Harlech and go south for the best views from a train in Wales and England.
Plenty of shops and eateries, the castle a huge beach and a very well stocked hardware shop in Harlech.
My only niggle is that the new combi boiler feeding the washing-up sink needs ages to warm-up and because it is in another building, goes cold quickly, so washing-up was mostly done with tepid water. Thwy could really do with an electric under sink water heater for the washing-up sink.
Value for money will depend on how many people there are in your party. We paid £10/night per person for a pitch without hookup. £1 for a 6min shower.
Lovely site in a lovely location. Will definitely come again.

Had an enjoyable 3 night stay here in this peaceful site. Good location for the southern part of Snowdonia, Portmeirion, Harlech, etc. Even without a car you could still reach it by bus or by train.
Mrs Williams greeted us on arrival and said we could go anywhere in the two fields available. It was a bit windy pitching the tent - not much shelter from southwest winds ocer the flat ground towards the sea but not too bad. There is a hill adjacent to the site which you can climb in about 10-15 minutes and which offers great views.
The toilets (2M, 2F I think)) are kept very clean, as is the dish-washing area. There are 3 showers (20p for more than enough hot water).
There is a trampoline and a few other things for smaller children; older ones can play in the ample space available. It is very safe for children with no road or water hazards so they can roam around and enjoy the freedom.
Overall a great site and a good choice.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable four night stay at Tanforhesgan over the Easter period. This was booked very much at the last minute and Mrs Williams the site owner was extremely helpful in accommodating us at such short notice over this busy weekend. We are veterans of the Harlech area having stayed at many of the better known sites over the years. Having seen the campsite advertised on this website with good reviews we decided to give it a try.
The campsite is very quiet which suited us down to the ground but comes with a full range of facilities which ought to be more than enough to meet the needs of most visitors. There is a small (20 pence) charge for the showers but in my opinion that isn't unreasonable for their use.
The site is well away from the main road (on two very flat fields) and therefore enables parents with young children to give their youngsters a little more of a free rein than busier locations. There are a number of hook ups should you require these.
There is a small children's play area with a slide, trampoline and playhouse. We visited at lambing time (this is a working farm) and the children were therefore also educated as to how these delightful little animals enter and take their first steps in the world. (After 52 years it was also a first for me!). There is also a single Alpaca which seems to act as 'the minder' for all the new arrivals which was lovely to watch.
Mrs Williams and all the family are really friendly and always available to help or just pass the time of day in conversation.
Harlech is a five minute drive away (or half hour walk) and the many other beautiful sites in this part of the world are easily accessible.
I would recommend this campsite without any reservations and will be adding it to our list of lovely venues within the Harlech area. Anyone visiting this area is really spoilt for choice in this respect!

Basic run down of the site, very quiet with the occasional rumble from the recycling site nearby. Facilities are basic but clean. 3 showers, one male toilet, 2 female. 20p for a 3 minute shower (approx) washroom with tumble drier, washing machine and iron all on coin meters. This site is very open and it can get very windy at times, we had to take the awning down because of it.
Mrs williams and her family are very welcoming. And the kids have plenty of room to play. Overall a pleasant site but very quiet. The 'beach road shop' is just down the road and it sells everything.

Our first visit to Tanforhesgan and would visit there again without a doubt. We were arriving late on Friday night (9. 30pm)with t5 campervan and teardrop trailer, after work and that was no problem to the owner. Got there in the dark and got shown to our pitch and told we could sort payment in morning, no worries. Facilities were great free hot water in pot wash area!, showers /wet room only 20pence!, washing machine and tumble dryer available to use as well. All facilities were spotlessly clean and plenty of them so no need to queue. Play area for the kids and plenty of room for them to play on there bikes, also a massive hillside for them to play on but still able to see them. Plenty to do in the area, Harlech castle local sports centre with pool and climbing walls, beach close by and Barmouth no far away. All in all, great site with every thing you need and the owners couldn`t be any more helpful, hope to see you again soon :-)

Spent a couple of nights at Shell Island before getting fed up with how busy/noisy it was and deciding we wanted somewhere quieter and more convenient in terms of getting in and out of Harlech, Portmadog etc. We dropped into Tanforhesgan late afternoon while our kids were still down on the beach with friends and received a lovely welcome from Mrs Williams. The site is clean, well kept and the owners were really helpful - taking time to talk to our daughters (when we eventually retrieved them) and showing us the very well maintained toiletblock and showers etc. It was so peaceful and tranquil and Mrs Williams and family couldn't have been more welcoming. There was no noise at all and it was bliss in comparison.
Thoroughly recommend this campsite as catered for all.

Tanforhesgan is a two-field caravan site on a farm located behind the dunes of Morfa Harlech. It is a nice, peaceful site that is great to stay on when the weather is fine. It is flat site, so pitching is not too difficult, and it drains well. However, it is quite an exposed site - and we just happened to be staying during the week when the storm from hell blew in, leaving us fighting to save our awning from being blown away.
The reception is friendly, and the facilities are well-maintained. There is a washroom, and there are several individual toilet and shower blocks. The showers are coin-operated, although this isn't as explicit as it should be. I dived under one only for it to die on me after a few minutes. I realise now I must have piggy-backed on the tail end of the shower someone else had paid for! The water point is centrally-located by the washroom, and can therefore be quite a trek from the periphery of the fields. The site has only 10amp ehu.
Tanforhesgan is well-suited for children, with plenty of toys, balls and games to borrow and play with, and the centre of the field to play on. Nearby there is a circular walk around the big hill that overlooks the site (or alternately, you can walk up it to take in views of Portmerion, Porthmadog, the big wide river estaury, and the peaks of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsula.
However, more disappointing is that although Tanforhesgan is sat on flat land back from the beach, there is no direct access to it - either on foot or by bike. Indeed - and despite what OS maps suggest - the tracks and roads through the adjacent woodland are closed off with barbed wire at a point only a quarter of a mile from Harlech. Hence the only way to cycle to the nearby beach is a three mile detour all the way around on the main road. So near and yet so far!

I can't add much to the reviews below, except to say it's still the same in 2014. There's plenty of space, and the owner is friendly and welcoming far beyond the call of duty, even when we wanted to borrow a screwdriver. Apparently this review is too short to submit, so I'll add that you can walk to Harlech by public footpath, off the road, though it isn't the most scenic path in Wales along a disused concrete track & thorough a couple of fields. There's a handy free bus service in Harlech from the beach car park (no height barrier - or there is, but the barrier's open) up to the castle on the hill.
