We went for a long weekend over the August bank holiday. The owner, Cynthia and her husband were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
We took our 4 children with us and had a wonderful time, they loved the lake and the ducks, and the walks were memorable.
We were in a large tent and never had any problem with the wind even though it was blowing.
We are going back in May 2011 for the bank holiday and the children are so looking forward to it.
The views are amazing and I would highly recommend this site to anyone wanting a proper camping holiday.

Just got back from a fantastic weekend at Sheldon House Farm. Fantastic location with stunning views. We choose pitch number 10, hardstanding with electric hook up. We were told that this pitch had the best views but warned that it could be windy here, which wasn't a worry for us in our caravan. Until early hours Sunday morning when the wind got up and we thought the windbreak was going to blow away!
Lovely walks from the caravan site. We walked to Grindon then over the fields to Butterton, having lunch and a much deserved pint (or two) at the Black Lion.
Will certainly be going back here again soon.

Stayed here for the early may bank holiday weekend. Wasn't too busy when we were there, but then it was pretty much like gale force winds. It is very open to the elements, no shelter so make sure you have a sturdy tent. Even out windbreak broke :-)
The facilities are basic but adequate, 20p for the shower, no hairdryer for those ladies who are bothered. Also didn't see any facilities for washing your pots n pans. But that didn't bother us.
The owners are in the early stages of building a new toilet/shower block which is nearer to the pitches.
Lots of lovely walks nearby and there is a footpath leading off straight from the site.
Will definitely be back, but when its a bit nicer weather :-)

The site wasn't too busy but I think that was down to the weather forecast. As in some previous reviews the site is a bit exposed (its nearly the highest point around for miles). I would recommend taking a sturdy tent with you if the forecast isn't looking too good.
Facilities are ok, the owner mentioned a new toilet block is to be built shortly. Owner was nice and chatty. Great views from all around and some nice walks in the area too. I'll be going back (hopefully with better weather)

We have just come back from this site it is a lovely site beautiful views from every angle. We were especially luck with the weather. There is no playground but plenty of room for the kids to run around and play. The toilets and showers were clean as was all of the site. The owners of the site are very nice. We will be going back again thank you. This site is undergoing work by the owners and I cant wait to see what they have planned for the site.

Spent a long weekend on this site during august 2009.
Its a huge site spread over a few fields with great views of the valley. It is a very exposed site though and I can not say this enough. I am glad we were in the caravan as it would have been hell in a tent. I thought maybe it was just strange weather but everywhere we went to off the site (even half a mile away) was still and calm.
The facilities are good (20p for showers) and the EHU was 16amp I think there were 10 of these. 5 on hard standing too.
Not sure I would return, but it takes a lot for me to return anywhere are so many places to visit.
Good location for visiting Buxton/ Werksworth/ Leek etc. But would rather a more sheltered site and there were plenty of them about.
The site was very dog friendly and that is a big bonus for us. The dog had plenty of space to run around something that seems hard to find at the moment.
Good value site though. We paid £13 a night with the electric.

Just back from a one night stay. Saturday lovely day - no wind which was a plus when putting up the tent. Unfortunately very windy on Sunday and some rain but this didn't stop us enjoying our stay. David and his wife are very helpful and lovely people. They are in the process of building a new shower/toilet block so this will greatly improve those particular facilities. The views when sitting outside your tent are breathtaking and it is so peaceful so if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday have a night here. We will definitely be back

Can't recommend this site enough. Spacious field, conveniently split up into sections so that all visitors are not on top of each other. Fantastic views as is at the very top of the valley.
As noted in other reviews, still a work in progress although the drainage problems have been resolved, and the ground is fine.
Not having a washing up room is not a problem at all, as due to the size of the field, it works out being more convenient to wash up the pots at the tent, rather than take the trek to the main farmyard.
The owner and his wife are fantastically accomodating, and really take a pride in what they do. The shower and toilets are always immaculate, and the work they are carrying out around the farmyard, and the holiday cottages is really good. In time, I imagine the additions they are planning to this site will make it even more popular.
As noted in other reviews also, the fact he makes a tour on an evening to check everyone is ok, is a really nice touch, and it was pleasant to have a chat with him and fuss the dogs each night.
The waste facilities are really good, as he has separate skips for recycling, tins, glass, and non recyclable, and is very appreciative of those who split their rubbish accordingly (unfortunately when we were there, quite a lot of visitors didn't, and he and his wife had to sort by hand, which stinks in my opinion).
This is a relaxed site, dogs are free to roam, and the owner does not request you leave by a certain time (although I would imagine this changes when he is full!). Will be back here again in the next month or so, as it is convenient for us for Fridays. Thanks for a great stay. :)

This campsite is ideally situated for exploring the peaks. We camped here over the bank holiday along with my brother and his family. They were in a caravan, towed by a pick up, which was very useful for towing us out of the mud when we left. All good fun.
My brother, a keen fisherman, had a go fishing in the larger drainage pond (not sure he caught anything though). Our 4 children and their 2 children enjoyed exploring and playing on the rubble heaps, the owners seemed to be doing lots of improvement work.
It was a bit exposed but our tent stayed up and it had lovely views. As others have said the owners were very friendly and I found the facilities very clean and warm.
There is an informal atmosphere, we took our dog and although he could have roamed he never leaves our side.
I can't remember how much it was but I do remember thinking it was a bit expensive. Possibly because there's 6 of us and I'm a penny pincher. All in all a good base to explore the peaks.

I have just had a fantastic weekend stay at Sheldon House Farm. With stunning views all around and with such a warm and welcoming couple I will be revisiting as often as possible. Very clean toilets and showers. My favourite part of my stay was watching the sun go down across the horizon and the family of geese in the large pond was wonderful. Also I must add so very cheap and clean very dog friendly which was a bonus. All the campers we found were very friendly. I highly recommend staying here if you want a happy laid back holiday.
