Can only say positive things about this site, we stayed for 2 weeks and enjoyed every day, the pitches are very spacious, the showers and toilets were spotless as was the CDP, The dog walk and field for them to run free in was fantastic, the pub in Crakehall 10 mins away was very friendly with good beer and food (check opening times)we will be back again at this again very soon.

Our fourth visit to Heron's Pond and I doubt it will be our last.
Very peaceful site - adult only so an ideal spot for a break taken during school holidays. The pitches around the pond are not the largest but benefit from a lovely outlook. Those away from the pond have masses of room around them. The facilities are spotless and roomy. The owners are friendly and discreet. It is ideally placed for touring the area in a car. You can walk from the site but if you want to do a serious hike then you really need to drive a bit further afield. The local pub is walkable but only opens in the evening. It serves food every night apart from Monday. Bedale is a short drive away for shops, restaurants and more pubs. They are opening a new bypass around Bedale in the Autumn so if you are arriving from the direction of the A1 your journey will be easier on the clutch! Overall would thoroughly recommend this site if you are looking for a peaceful break in a beautiful area.

I spent a few nights here in my Large motorhome. I was on pitch 6, perfect size for my vehicle. I agree that pitch 6a is a bit smaller but just inform the owner of the size of your vehicle and he will allocate the correct pitch.
It's an idyllic setting overlooking a large pond, plenty of wildlife to see including a number of sheep in the field. Plenty of dog walking paths with little spades along the route to carry out the necessary! Also a tap and bowl.
The site is peaceful, no shop, reception or clubhouse. Ideal for us. There's a garage 10mins walk away in Crakehall which is a mini market. Also a pub in the village selling food. The washing facilities are brilliant. One toilet each for ladies and gentleman. One full shower room each too, with shower cubicle, toilet, wall heater, sink etc. Spotlessly clean at all times, plenty of nice liquid soap and paper towels.
Dish washing area, again spotless. Bowl and draining rack provided, also Fairy liquid if you have forgotten your own.
The site is well run and maintained. The owner and his wife have a beautiful house and fab garden next to the campsite, both very hardworking.
I have already recommended the site and will definitely return!

We used this site as a stopover on our way up to Edinburgh as it is only a short distance from the A1. It is an immaculately kept site in a peaceful setting. Facilities are very good with individual shower rooms for ladies and gents. There is a dog friendly pub in the village which is only a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely use this site again, either as a stopover or to explore the surrounding area.

Very quiet and peaceful. Owners keep out of the way but are around should you wish to see them. They live in a house on site.
Adults only but accepts dogs. Lovely little woodland dog walk, through gate on site, up to a field, where you can let dogs off lead.
Walk from this field to the town as bridlepath runs through the field.
Really pleasant views from all lakeside pitches of the lake itself and wildlife.
Bit of a tight squeeze to get a motorhome of 6. 8m into pitch 6a but owner said it didn't matter if I went over the grass.
Lakeside pitches hard-standing.
Possible issues with getting stuck on the grass for access to some pitches as no hard-standing to some of them.
Electric hook-up, water within easy reach of each pitch. Payment is by form and cash/cheque into a little post-box on site.
Chemical waste emptying point screened off and clean.
Highly recommended. Will definitely be returning.
Bedale itself is a lovely little town with motorhome parking in the two car parks. Very helpful Tourist Info. In Hall. Lovely Beck Side walk in the town.
Some gorgeous stately homes and gardens very near.

What a lovely little site, peaceful, lovely walks nearby and within close walking distance to the village.
Pitches are spacious and separated by shrubbery, we felt that had the site to ourselves even though there were other visitors staying. Our pitch had a lovely view of the pond.
The showers and toilets are spotless, there is a well stocked information hut and the friendly owner is on hand to answer any questions. He was kind enough not to charge us for our awning as we have a micro - campervan and take up very little space. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights here and will definitely be back soon.

I hate to start off being negative, but if you're allocated pitch 6b you'll not be getting much space for your money. We'd just bought a new awning and were wanting to try it out but found there was not enough room, and I also had to do a little weeding before I felt comfortable using the pitch as the nettles were starting to come up through the gravel. That said, it is probably the quietest pitch on site tucked away in the corner, and has a wonderful view of the meadow (including pond and heron!).
The site itself is well maintained and peaceful, and each pitch has electricity and its own water point. The facilities are very clean and I loved the fact that the shower room was bigger than my bathroom at home, having corner shower, washbasin, toilet, a seat to sit on, clothes hooks and a heater!
There is no reception when you arrive at the site, just pick up your envelope from a box at the gate which tells you which pitch you're on, and after you're set up post your payment in the post box on site. Unconventional but it works. (Cash or cheques only. )
We walked into Bedale which took about half an hour by road, but if we'd planned better we could have caught a bus from the nearby village of Crakehall. There are no public footpaths into Bedale but the main road has a footpath so it's safe.
All in all a very enjoyable weekend. I'm sure we'll be back.

Just had two weeks here and it was wonderful. Facilities excellent, site excellent, owners excellent, location excellent. Trains running nearby and jets flying above - I was delighted. Can't wait for next year. The lanes are quiet for walking and the footpaths through the fields are good, too. The garage in Crakehall is a 5 minute walk and stocks your daily needs, while Northallerton market is a joyful throwback to what proper markets should be.

We have just returned from this site and I love it. If you want noise, family entertainment or lots of kids this is not the site for you. As two adults wanting a break in peaceful beautiful surroundings in a glorious part of the country then this is a real find. I loved the fact that there is no cramped shower block where clothes get damp because you have no room to get changed. The lovely ladies shower is a room with shower and little seat, toilet and wash basin and places to hang your clothes. More like being at home than on a caravan site. There is also another loo and gents facilities are just as good. There is a washing up area and clothes lines, no washing machine or dryer. No internet and phone signal intermittent. This is a very small lovely site where the owners leave you to get on with it just check that you are okay from time to time. On arrival you find an envelope at the gate and put your payment in it and post it in an old fashioned quaint little post box for the owners to pick up that evening so that you have time to set up and enjoy your time there. All clean and tidy with dog walking area and local pub and church nearby. Short ride into Bedale will find you shops pubs and a weekly market. It is only around £1 on the bus to Knaresborough if you want bigger shops and we also took a ride to Thirsk if you fancy the races.
I believe a couple of families go there regularly and they were friendly and informative. The electric hook up did trip a couple of times being only 10amp but this was a minor inconvenience made up for by the fresh water tap on each pitch which was very handy.

First time at this site which we stumbled upon by accident having seen the sign at side of road. Small site of 9 hard standing pitches which are in the main fairly level and have electric and water at the pitch. Met by very friendly owners who must work very hard keeping the site clean and well maintained. Facilities are quite basic but very clean and more than adequate for site of this size. We were lucky enough to be given a pitch looking over the pond and spent a lot of time watching the Canada goose protecting his mate who was sitting on eggs. There is a way marked walk into nearby village where there is a shop, garage and pub. It is possible to walk into Bedale but along road. Great location for access to dales, Leyburn being about 15 minutes away as is Masham. Being an adults only site it made for a peaceful weekend and we can't wait to return.
