Facilities simple but spotless, excellent dog walking on site. Good sized pitches well maintained, in general a wonderful site, friendly owners. Can't wait to go back. It was lovely to have lot's of room to sit out etc

A site more suited to adults but caters for motor homes and caravans. All hard standing. Great information area. A small simple site in a beautiful area. Efficiently run.

Lots of stunning walks close by as well as easy access to Richmond.

Grass well cut, in all a pristine site.

The excellent dog walk had spades and numerous containers. It had views of 'the pond' and led to a large exercise field, again neatly cut!

We love walking and will use this site often.

Just returned from a two night stay on this fabulous little Site. We normally stay on the larger Caravan Club Sites but thought we'd try somewhere smaller for a change. This Site has a lovely homely feel to it, with a lot of carefully thought touches! Spacious single Shower Room, separate Ladies & Gent's Toilets, Information Room. Fresh water on hard-standing pitch. A great on-site dog walk and close proximity from Crakehall Village for your morning paper/Village Pub/Petrol Station. Blissfully quiet and out of the way feel - can't wait to return in better weather, so we can enjoy the surroundings.

Myself and the other half have just returned from a 3 night stay at Heron pond, what a fantastic little site (18+) The grounds are kept very tidy and well cut. The loo's are a little on the dated side but saying that they're clean tidy and well stocked. 1 loo for ladies and 1 for the gents and a single shower, but seeing as there are only 9 pitches this was not a problem.

There is a small information hut with information about the area, a collection of books to loan if you run out of reading material.

If you turn right out of the site gates and follow your nose for 5 minutes there's a good village pub The Bay House which servs good ales and food, John the land lord has a very dry sense of humour. There is a very limited bus service through the village to Bedale or the walk is only a steady half an hour.

We have a bailey 5 berth and at 24ft the entrance was quite tight to get in and out, so care must be taken.

Robert the site owner was a very interesting gent to talk to and very friendly and helpful, he's lived on the site for 53 years so he told me.

The million dollar question, will we return? YES several times next season for sure.

What a lovely little site! As said in previous reviews, all well laid out and spacious. The owner, Richard, is very proud, and rightly so, of his site. Very well maintained. The shower room is spacious with free showers.

I like the idea he has of putting little chains on the doors of the shower and loos when they not in use. This keeps them ventilated and you can see at a glance if there's anyone in them. They are housed in a log cabin style building with flowers growing all around. V pretty!

As for the signs that a previous reviewer spoke of, I personally think they are a good thing. You are in no doubt whats expected and even if you forget to do something, the little notice reminds you. Easy!

There is a little shed with all sorts of info regarding the area and also reading material.

We didn't go on the doggy walk as we, sadly, no longer have Bazil, but it looked perfectly adequate, away from the pitches into a tree lined path and up to a field.

Apparently there is a heron on Herons Pond but we didn't see it during our stay. Other visitors had though. We were fortunate enough to be on pitch 4 which, as the owner suggested, we parked with the towbar facing the pond so we could see, and was lovely. There were sheep in the field surrounding the pond and various other birds including baby coots.

Everything needed on site has been well thought out and it makes for an enjoyable stay for all caravanners. We shall definitely stay here again when we return to this part of the country.

What a lovely peaceful site! And very friendly and helpful owners too. Don't know if we were just lucky or the site has an effect on visitors, but the other campers seemed very friendly and relaxed too.

The pitches are very spacious and well-appointed, though the toilet block may just be beginning to show its age (I feel like I am nit-picking there really!).

The dog walk is excellent - I guess the previous reviewer must like a Cumbrian fell outside every camp site. The walk skirts the pond, has a 200m tree lined avenue and then has a large field where the dogs can run themselves silly. That's before you even consider the surrounding countryside. Our Doberman loved it.

We only visited the local village pub once, but it seemed ok. The several pubs in nearby Bedale were very welcoming and friendly and there is an excellent curry house (Taste of India).

There is fairly large Co-Op hidden right in the middle of the main street too.

In the area we visited a host of places including Barnard Castle, the Tan Hill Inn (highest pub in England, Richmond, Masham, Revaulx Abbey, Ripon, Swaledale, Wensleydale and many more. There were many other things we wanted to do too - we just couldn't fit it in!

For those who love a scenic drive, try the road back through Coverdale from Kettlewell!

We would definitely recommend this site and this area of North Yorkshire.

First the good points; pitches were large and well tended with individual water and drainage points so no long walks with aqua rolls to refill. Site is well kept and maintained with plenty of useful information in the visitor shed for all to view freely. Nicely located for local towns/villages the site is very peaceful and quiet, local village is only 10 minutes easy walk to visit the pub (1 in number) and shop/garage for essentials should you need them. Masham and Bedale are lovely and well worth a visit and the Hackfall Trust park is beautiful with many dog friendly walks of all lengths to suit everyone, well recommended.

Now the not so good points; dog walking, if you like long hikes and not just a 10 minute stroll for toilet duty, is not so easy if you have a large dog. The 'wood' is at best a 100 yard tree lined path and the free run field is pretty small so numerous laps required if exercise is what you require. Styles are at 2 exit corners, one with only small enough aperture to get a little or skinny dog through and 2nd style is a tall ladder style. Small dogs can be picked up but if you have a 10 stone mountain dog like mine he could not get through or over them. I have never seen so many signs and posters. Do this, don't do that, be aware of the other, it was endless and made us feel like school children and not sensible adults. I enjoyed a nice large pitch and erected a full awning, the owner came straight over and complained because I erected a full length one when I had indicated at point of booking one month before that a 3/4 awning would be put up.

A quiet friendly site that is ideal for those with quiet dogs! The shower & toilets were very clean and tidy, the water in them was as hot as required.

Each pitch has its own water supply but the waste water disposal on the particular pitch we were on was inefficient and overflowing - but to be fair, the site owner Richard was very quick to point this out and point out alternative disposal facilities.

The pitches are all 'Hard Standing' but on pitch 3 at least, this was loose soil under a layer of crushed stone, pegs were drawn out very quickly in the high winds on site during our visit and our awning had to be taken down before damage was caused.

Apart from this only disappointment, our visit was very, very enjoyable and we have no reservations on a return to this very quiet & friendly site.

The closeness of the site to the gateways of both the North Yokshire Dales to the West, and the North Yorkshire Moors to the East, makes the location of this site a huge bonus to those wanting to explore the wilds of the beautiful County of North Yorkshire!

What a lovely relaxing place. The facilities were very clean and the whole place is well looked after.

The campsite is well situated for places to visit. Had lovely days out visiting the Wensleydale cheese factory and sampled all their cheeses, James Herriott museum and the Black Sheep Brewery. The lovely market town of Barnard Castle is only 30 miles away.

We will definitely stay at Herons Pond again as there are lots of places we still want to visit and it is such a lovely site.

Visited the site in March this year in our twin axle caravan which the friendly owner helped us to site.

The site is small but well laid out and not cramped. The facilities are clean and well looked after, good dog exercise area in pleasant surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere in a lovely location. Good pubs and shops in Beadale, not to mention excellent butchers!
Masham only 7 or so miles away with its brewery and quaint town to visit, great walks by the river Ure. Will most definitely return.

Bit of a dodgy start with owner after I requested the pitch next to ours for my sister as we live in different parts of the country and don't get to see each other as often as we would like, to which they were not happy even though the site was not busy.

However, unbeknown to us it was put right and we had a wonderful time (next to each other).

Herons pond is a beautiful secluded site with lots of nice little touches that leave other sites behind (even binoculars in the hut for use), not a dog owner but walked the dog walk and noticed doggy bins with little scoops for use too (nice touch)shower was spacious and clean, as were the toilets, nice to have your own tap to connect direct to your van and save keep fetching water.

All in all an excellent place to stay for peace & quiet with nice views and plenty to do in the area, black sheep brewery tour is good and only 7 miles away, right on the edge of wensleydale too so plenty of walks and things to see / do.

Well worth a visit, highly recommended.
