Reviewers - mature couple with campervan and bikes.

We booked this site at the last minute as we needed somewhere to stay after visiting family.

It is better to follow their instructions to the site, the satnav takes you on a rather narrow lane.

I don't need to describe the site at all, the description on here is perfectly accurate. It is very peaceful and quiet.

When we arrived, there was an envelope waiting by the gate telling us our pitch number and various other useful info. Our pitch was at the bottom facing the pond. There are few trees and little shelter from the sun on the site, but it has woodlands on the far side.

The owner came round to see us, he is very friendly, and wants you to enjoy their lovely campsite. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and neat, including the small toilet block, which has separate facilities for men and women. There is no washing up area, you need to do it in your unit, there is a drain for waste water nearby.

The local Heritage railway runs at the back of the site, we walked down the lane to watch the train go across. The site information hut has a timetable.

Absolute Heaven. This site is one of the best we have been to and will most definitely be back. For a small site this has everything. The dog walk is unbelievable and Richard and Jean have even supplied a total of 16 poop scoop shovels on your route. They are evenly spaced out nailed to the trees. Brilliant. There are ladies and gents separate toilets and showers for use. The ladies being very new and lovely. All facilities are kept exceptionally clean. Most of the pitches overlook the pond (Visited daily by the Heron) and are very well spaced out. What more could you ask for.

There is a nice pub in Crakehall about 10 mins walk from site and they have a nice pint of Theakstons bitter in there. They also serve food but we cannot comment on that as we didn't eat there.

We highly recommend this beautiful site and Richard and Jean are very welcoming.

Thank you for a very pleasant stay. R&M.

What a site. Good location to explore the Dales but if you are looking for somewhere to just relax and chill in peace and tranquility, other than the birdsong, this is definitely the place to be. Large pitches with more than enough room for a caravan, awning and car. Many overlook the pond which which for its size has quite a lot of wildfowl, as well as a Heron which visits most days.

The facilities may seem basic but are kept very clean & tidy, the ladies shower block has been updated and is incredibly spacious, not something you often associate with a smaller site. The wardens a extremely helpful and are on hand should you need any assistance. The dog walk is the best. There is a tree lined walk which leads to a field, a big bonus as they can have a run and play there without the worry of them getting lost.

We will definitely be back.

What a lovely rural site; lovely and clean, the facilities well kept and maintained. Adults site so very quiet and peaceful. Owners were really friendly and helpful.

We had a couple of lovely walks. One into the beautiful village of Crakehall, and another around the dog walking site.

We wished we could have stayed longer and didn't want to leave. I am sure we will return again.

My husbands only quibble was he couldn't fish the pond!

A must visit site really. All pitches face the pond apart from pitches 1 and 2. The buildings to the left of the pond are the loos and showers and which are amongst the best we have come across. Lovely and warm on that frosty Saturday morning.

If travelling from the South I would suggest that you come off the A1 at Ripon A61 and then on to the road which runs parallel with the A1. This is a new road - the 6055 I think. As you leave the A1 turn left and at the next roundabout turn right. Come off this new road at Burniston and head for Bedale. This avoids having to travel up hill to the junction into Bedale Market Place to turn right to head for the site. With a usual queue of traffic into the Market Place you can be wearing your clutch out as you slowly pull the van up that incline. My route takes you straight into Bedale Market place from the south. Much easier.

The access to the site from the main road, along a country lane, is easy enough for your van even with other vehicles passing you.

At the entrance to the site there is a glass fronted box with envelopes in and one will have your name on. Take that and it gives you a leaflet about the site, your allocated pitch number, the area and of the pitch fees. Place your fees (cash or cheque) into that envelope and place it in the mail box by the information hut.

Having reversed our van onto our pitch we found it perfectly level, so no messing with levelling blocks. All the pitches look to be reasonably level and hard cored.

Each pitch has its own water supply and grey waste goes down a communal drain near the information hut. Power is 10 amps so remember to turn something off when powering up the microwave!

They do ask that the toilet chemicals are formaldehyde free and if you haven't got that you can buy some from the information hut. £8. 50 into an envelope provided and into the mail box.

The information hut has the usual plus free range eggs to buy, money into an honesty cup. The hut has windows on the one side with views across the pond. There are binoculars so that you can use the hut as a hide. Tufted Ducks, Coots, Grey lags and Canada Geese were present during our stay. A heron pops along every now and again for the fish which I was assured by the mobile caravan engineer are gold fish! A Tree Sparrow was building a nest near our van and as we don't get to see this bird around our way, which has reduced in numbers nationally anyway, that was a treat. Blackcap, Nuthatch and Yellow Bunting are not often seen but can be found here.

That engineer I mentioned came out for a small problem the day I called him. Excellent service. His details are on the information leaflet provided when you arrive.

Richard, the owner, calls round once you are settled in, to provide a welcome and a chat and which was a nice touch.

Ideally situated for Leyburn (5m) Reeth (11m)Bedale (2m) Northallerton (12ishm) and Masham (7m). Two breweries in Masham have conducted tours so that's a full day!.

Above all though, it's the setting of this site which makes it. 10 minute walk from Crakehall village so you don't hear the main road traffic through the village. The only sound on this site are the birds and water fowl. Idyllic really.

Pitches are well spaced, so no overcrowding, and as you see from the photo it is very well maintained and landscaped.

Adult only which adds to the peace.

The dog walk is excellent and ends in a 2 acre field where you can run the dog off the lead if there is no stock present. A public footpath from that field leads into the village over two other fields.

The local shop is open six days a week for most things although probably Bedale will be the main shopping venue. All the shops you would need for a visit are there. Anything more and pop into Northallerton, especially Barkers which is a cross between Debenhams/ M&S/ John Lewis only much more up market. Lewis and Coopers is the deli to call into. It's like stepping into a time gone by. Excellent foods on sale.

All in all a spot well worth including in your sites to stop at

This charming little site is well tucked away from the 'madding crowds' just outside Bedale. A tranquil location overlooking the eponymous pond where the heron does actually visit most days and ideal for the ultimate 'chill'. The owner could not be more helpful and obliging and walked around chatting during the day. The (unheated) facilities are basic but clean so should be more comfortable in summer. TV reception was OK to good. Overall: A small but beautifully presented location for seekers of peace and tranquillity.

3rd visit to this tranquil site and it certainly won't be our last. Pitches well spaced, all with power and water connections, and very well maintained. Site is kept immaculately clean with grass cut at least every week.

Toilets and showers slightly dated but kept spotlessly clean and provided with more than you normally expect to get on larger sites. Good provision of local tourist attractions information. Excellent dog walks provided and well maintained immediately off site.

Owners couldn't be more welcoming and friendly. Look forward to going back next year.

We've stayed at Herons pond quite a few times. Richard & Jean always make us feel really welcome. It's a very relaxing site, with no children to disturb the peace. Our dogs love the dog walk, which leads up through a long avenue of trees, opening into quite a sizable field where the dogs can be exercised, providing there is no live stock. The facilities are first class. Bedale is an unspoilt Yorkshire town still maintaining its small individual shops. Its handy for visiting the dales, Richmond, Thirsk and Northallerton. We'll be Back.

Herons Pond is a lovely little site. We spent 5 nights here over the Jubilee weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Upon arrival, Richard came over to introduce himself and to familiarise us with the site which we thought was a nice touch.

The site is Peaceful and quiet with nice walks both from the site and also just a short drive away. The dog walking area was absolutely fine and the narrow stile referred to in an earlier post is on a public footpath from the site. We had no problems with our 42kg Labrador!

Would thoroughly recommend this site to anybody looking for a nice quiet break. The pitches are well spaced and the facilities are kept clean. We will be returning later in the year to Herons Pond.

Just spent the weekend at Herons Pond, this is possibly the best site we have ever stayed on. It was our first visit and it won`t be our last!

Richard and his wife have tastefully nurtured this caravan site into a haven of tranquillity.

The facilities are spot on, there is one shower with a sink and toilet, there is also a male and female toilet available, which are adequate.

There is a good little information room with plenty of books to read.

We have managed to book a week in July, I think we got the last pitch for that week, so that tells you everything !
