We booked this site for six nights but loved it so much that we extended our stay to eight nights! The pitch we had was less than 5 minutes walk from the lake and 1 minute from the facilities. The grass was neatly cut and the pitches well marked and spacious, all had EHU.

There are 3 toilet, sink and shower cubicles, male, female and disabled which were all spotlessly clean with a mop and bucket provided to wipe up muddy/grassy footprints.

What a beautiful lake!good paths all around and well-marked pegs. My husband fished the match on Saturday and although didn, t have the biggest catch, thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Graham and Allison were friendly and although this was our first visit, we were made to feel like old friends. Both of them were busy every day, maintaining the site and chatting to the campers.

We went to York twice using the park and ride, £2, 70 each return. The Plough in Allerthorpe is a 15 minute walk away using the short-cut. Good size village of Pocklington not too far away for provisions.

We have re-booked a long weekend in July and hopefully will be visiting again for 2 weeks next year.

If you love peace and quiet, the only noise being bird-song then this is the site for you.

Spoke to owner the night before we were due and he told me we could arrive any time we wanted, got there around 8. 30am, we were met by the owner who was very friendly and helpful from the start, even when my van broke down as we arrived, the owner was straight to call on a couple of mates who rallied to get us started again. Great start you might say but it was good to meet helpful people. Shown our pitch with EHU, good size as our tent is 7. 5mt x 5, 5mt. Pitched up and got settled, weather not bad but wanted to get pitched before it rained. Once pitched went and spoke to the owners, paid our fee for the week, £15 per night per pitch with £3 ehu per night (16amp) and £2 per extra person and dogs free we found very good value. You can get discounted weekly fishing, which was good as I fished early morning and evening. Really nice campsite, clean and tidy shower block, pot wash which they supply the washing up liquid, and fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble drier. Really friendly site, we had some nice neighbours (viv and ian). York and surrounding areas are all in close proximity to conifer lake. Also available are cozy cabins at £35 per night, will sleep 2, will defo be going again, credit to the owners.

Just stayed one night in the Woodpecker cabin. Thought it might be a bit cold but this wasn't the case the electric convector heater keeps the cabin lovely and warm. The cabin has a double bed, 2 ring electric stove, full size fridge, and crockery / cutlery for 2 people basically everything you need apart from the bedding and food. Some sites just offer a basic pod and you have to take all of your camping gear but not here. Outside you have some decking and also a picnic table. The site was lovely and quiet with just the sound of the local wildlife including owls at nigh and a cockerel that reminds you in the morning that you are not in the city. Love this site the cabin was nice, the owners very polite and welcoming, the lake is a great plus, showers are spotless no complaints whatsoever and this will become one of favourite campsites when the weather gets better.

(Couple - late 40's/early 50's - look for peace, quiet and tranquillity, but with a few mod cons).

Stayed 3 nights - Fri 24/01 to Mon 27/01

Having stayed for 11 nights in Sept 2012 (see previous review) and again for 3 nights at Easter 2013, we saw no reason not to visit this wonderful, quirky site yet again. And no reason to allow the weather to put us off!

Ok, as you'd expect on a wet weekend at the end of January, there's a distinct lack of colour! The skies are grey, and the majority of the trees are bare. But the site itself remains quirky and peaceful. The grass is still short, and the walk around the lake is still an absolute pleasure. Wellies needed, maybe, but it was far from boggy, and the pathways are all kept clear of foliage, with much of it now bordered by the (deliberately) felled trees from the islands. (To form a kerb, for want of a better description!) They've been extremely busy tidying the whole lake and the islands, and it looks even better for it. Oh. And the chickens have settled in, since the last time we were here!

The facilities are still spotless. The booking in ('phoned earlier in the week) remains informal and pain free, and the welcome from the owners (and the dogs) remains, well, welcoming!

You still nod off to the sounds of nothing but the local owl(s).

In all honesty, the only addition we noticed was the cockerel crowing early doors! As City dwellers, this bothers us not one jot, but for those who like absolute silence at dawn, all it takes is a couple of ear plugs!

There's still a decent pub in the nearby village, with a decent menu and a warming fire. And of course, The city of York, the coast, and the North York Moors remains the same distance away, whatever the time of year, and whatever the weather!

Make no mistake, this was a very wet weekend, and the owners deserve nothing but praise for the conditions of the ground. The only lake was THE LAKE! No puddles on the camping field, or the approaches to the loo block etc. I reckon that takes some doing!

Having now camped here in Spring, Autumn and Winter, I can't possibly see any problem coming in the height of Summer, so quite simply, Conifer Lake is a site for all seasons. And it's certainly one you'll want to return to, time and time again.

Just returned from a weekend at Conifer Lake. What a lovely little campsite set in beautiful surroundings. My husband and a friend enjoyed the day fishing in the lake whilst me and the dog enjoyed the walk around the lake. Toilet and shower facilities are spotless. The wardens are really friendly and helpful, always making time to stop for a chat. If you don't have the use of a car then there is not much to do in the surrounding area but if like us you are quite happy to spend a relaxing weekend fishing and walking then you will love this campsite. We will definitely return.

Jumping on the band wagon here. We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Conifer Lakes. We had a GREAT stay. We got exactly what we expected. A quiet site, friendly owners, beautiful setting and a relaxing experience. The big plus about the site is the lake. We didn't fish, but enjoyed watching carp gulping at the surface. It provides lovely back drop to the well kept site, as well as a relaxing walk. A big highlight for us was watching kingfishers dart around the lake; a real joy.

The facilities were clean and tidy, although one minor point is that the showers are in the same room as the toilet, so while someone takes a shower, you have to wait to go to the bog. Not a problem while we were there, but it was fairly quiet. A little tip to help with this is that there is a toilet for the fishermen around the back of the main block: more basic, but clean and tidy.

Whilst there we visited Pocklington; a nice little market town. We went on Tuesday which is market day. We also enjoyed an hour or so around Beverley as well as an afternoon in Brid. York Maize kept us entertained for an hour or two.

On an evening, to make a change from a bbq, the local pub is worth a walk. The key to the gate from the campsite gets you back in and is worth the deposit you get back on its return. To be honest, if you are happy is the pleasant surroundings (or you like to fish) then the site itself is more than enough, or at least it was in the fine weather we were lucky enough to get.

There isn't a shop, but supermarkets are just a 5 minute drive away.

To summarise, a quiet and beautiful location to spend a few days relaxing. For me, sat on a bench with a morning brew watching ducks and moorhens on the lake whilst song birds visit the bird feeders and kingfishers dart past was a real treat. Not a bad way to start the day! Recommended! 'Nuf said.

Stayed here for a weekend late July found the site after nearly passing the entrance lane a second time, a better sign would be helpful especially to new visitors as obviously previous visitors will try not to make the same mistake and then look for somewhere to turn around.

The site itself was idyllic and very quiet, the ideal place for a get away from it all break. The lake is ideal for a short stroll with a winding path through the surrounding trees. Every fishing peg has loads of features to fish to.

The site is very well cared for by the owners and will only get better as they work very hard on improving it. If you fancy a quick get away, they have small cabins available for rent, no setting up of tents or caravans, just throw your bedding into your car and off you go! Will definitely return here in the future.

My girlfriend, 3 dogs and I have just returned from a lovely 3 night stay at Conifer Lake. Firstly Graham was excellent, great guy who took our booking calling me back exactly when he said he would. The campsite is a very secluded location boarded by a golf course (which seemed to be closed) and some private farms. Its a little easy to miss if you are travelling from Allerthorpe (its on the right following the right hand bend after the golf course). Graham however was great with his directions when I over shot the site.

When we arrived I was a little blown away. The weather was excellent and this place has a very welcoming feel. The pitches are spacious and even when my hook up only just reached our pitch, Alison was happy to help us out and we quickly moved pitches. The ground was excellent and very flat. Once set up we went about checking the site out. I love quirky and this place has it in abundance. From the toilet block to the pond to the bird feeding area there is a lot of unusual decor which makes you smile. There are also some lovely metal animal sculptures.

The lake is a quintessential English scene with weeping willows and lily pads and is a lovely short walk especially to walk off the BBQ.

There is a huge community feel here and there were so many people who clearly come time and time again. As such the chatter and vibe was excellent and everyone makes you feel welcome.

PS if you love fishing this seems to be the place to be.

The facilities are great. The toilet block comprises of 3 units (male/female/disabled) which are comprised of toilet sink shower and a changing area. All were kept very clean and well stocked.

The local pub (accessible through a locked gate - key available from owners for a small deposit) is a nice distance away and serves excellent food with very friendly staff.

All in all I loved this campsite. We will be back no doubt on the motorbike and making use of the very nice cabins.

Just stayed again at this lovely site (3rd time in 2 years) and it just gets better and better. The owners keep the place looking beautiful and the 3 toilet/shower pods are lovely and clean.

Nice flat pitches and large enough to take our Vanga Airbeam and canopy which comes in at about 38ft long!

There's a good pub with homemade food and real chips about a 15 minute easy walk away and the walks around the fishing lakes are stunning.

A sheltered washing up area with loads of hot water is always good when in a tent and also the use of a freezer for the cooling blocks is really handy and at only 20p's worth of bird food per block it's a bargain.

A great place for a quiet break away.

Just got home from a 3 night stay and we had a lovely time. Great site, lots of quirky things around the site.

Spent a day fishing on the lake and caught quite a few different species of fish.

We had a walk around the lake every eve. Chicken island was great. Nice walk, lots of flowers and ducks to watch.

We walked to the local pub. 15 minutes walk through the secret gate which cuts off the walk along the road with no footpath. Pub nice and enjoyed the food.

Shower/ toilets very clean, nice flat site for the tent.

The owners are very helpful and friendly.

We have booked to return at the end of August to stay in 1 of their cosy cabins :-)

Best site we have stayed at so far.
