Having very recently returned from a 4 night stay, Monday through to Thursday, at Conifer Lake I feel compelled to furnish a review. I have to agree whole heartedly with all previous reviews. Without sounding boring this site is truly a gem. Well laid out in lovingly tended grounds, the pitches are all on grass, with countless shrubs so as to suggest privacy. The owners live on site and one or other or both are always in attendance and always have time for a friendly chat.
The very modern toilet facilities are kept spotlessly clean and fresh. Dry weather prevailed throughout my stay so the problem of wet mud and grass being tramped into the toilet area did not arise, but the capability to leave the washroom clean for the next user is provided, ie a mop and bucket. Unlimited hot water for washing, showering and also pot washing is provided. There is also the opportunity, on site, to purchase fishing bait and other angling related sundries as well as other curios and collectables. Help and assistance from the owners, both very experienced anglers, and from other campers on the small seasonal site, regarding fishing tactics, for the less experienced is readily available and freely given. The large lake is deceiving by its size, there are numerous islands scattered across it, and with the numerous trees on the islands and around the lake it gives the impression of being small which it is not.
This site is thoroughly recommended and now that I have found it I will certainly make return visits in the future. Well worth the ten stars I have awarded it.

After all the fantastic reviews, we decided to stay for our first tent trip of the year at this campsite and were not disappointed.
We were greeted by the owner who said to choose our pitch and gave us the code for the loos and shower. We pitched the tent and extension and only then did we notice all the quirky little things around us – wooden sculptures, mannequins and a mermaid in the bath and one quite scary looking (scary spice looks quite tame by comparison!) – won’t give too much away or you won’t discover these for yourself. But these are great fun!
Toilets and showers – as previously stated one for ladies, gents and disabled, but all immaculately clean – and we are both particular about loos especially – Shower in the same room as toilet together with a changing area. Lovely hot showers (like home really) again spotless! They were so clean, that I cleaned round after myself as if at home – they were that clean – I couldn’t bring myself to leave any splashes on mirrors or anything.
There is an undercover washing up area – fairy included – fridge for ice blocks – washing machine and dryer and sockets for hairdryers etc. All nicely laid out in one block.
There is a fishing lake, while we were there, there was only one amateur fisherman who caught 2 massive fish on two separate occasions as we passed – the pride on his face after his first fish was priceless! Neither of us fish, but we could see loads of fish and if you are a fisherman there is no nicer place to fish!
The campsite is really quiet, no road noise whatsoever just the birds. Graham is about to get some chickens so this will add to noises you hear but that is about it – peace and tranquillity!
Never visited the pub, but shops aren’t too far away at Pocklington where there’s a decent co-op for all your needs and a great fish and chip shop opposite the co-op. These are delicious and they even give you scraps (batter bits). We were so full we had to walk around the lakes at the campsite to walk them off!
All in all a fantastic little, unspoilt campsite with a great feel – we will certainly be visiting again – if you do. Enjoy! I have no doubt that you will!

And the ten stars continue........ absolutely wonderful site.......
Booked by 'phone the day before, no problem. Having checked out their website, their directions were easy and spot on, and found the place straight away. (The site is down a long lane, alongside the perimeter of a golf course, and the nearest post code doesn't quite get you to the entrance!)
Reception: As we drove onto site, the owners greeted us with a welcoming smile, and asked us to confirm how long we intended to stay, as when we booked, we couldn't confirm the length of duration. When we confirmed we would be there for 10 nights, and EHU wasn't required, she promptly escorted us personally to what can only be described as a semi-private, detached, super-pitch garden!! Approx 10m diameter, enclosed by 3ft high hedgerow and conker trees, with half a dozen gaps for entry. Smack bang in the middle of the main field, with a 360 deg view of the whole site. Perfect! Oh, and for our first night at least..... we were the only ones there! :-) Straight away, we were made to feel welcome, the site seemed to be idyllic, and the hosts seemed to be the sort that offer you help and advice when asked for, but otherwise, leave you in peace. All first impressions proved to be spot on! Superb!
The Site/amenities: Smallish site. And so obviously very well kept and cared for. Flat ground, well mown grass. Plants, flowers, bird feeders etc. Quirky ornaments and rockeries. Tables, chairs and benches spread out throughout the site, to encourage you to simply soak up the atmosphere. Get yourself sorted, then plonk the car in a separate area at the side of the main access road, still close and visible, but not on your pitch. We liked that, as it keeps the camping ground less cluttered and of course, makes it less likely to ruin the grass! Tall trees pretty much surround the site, so generally well sheltered from the wind. Ablutions block/pot washing etc are all central, and as per previous reviews, A1 in quality, cleanliness, layout etc. Superb! Constant hot water, never less than 2 loo rolls, massive mirror, plenty of hanging hooks, dry dressing area, fresh mop bucket to wipe away your own wellie-prints as you leave the loo area. Washer & drier available if needed. Freezer also, to bung your ice-blocks in. A couple of sockets in the laundry room for when you get desperate for hair drier/charging etc. Superb! Five wooden cozy-cabins for those without canvas or tin. Direct access to the wonderful fishing lake. (We don't fish, but we did stroll around the lake each evening, as it's rude not to!!). There's a waste disposal point by the pond in the middle of the site, for the caravanner's loos. Fairy lights around the pond at night. Security light as you approach the loo block. The rest is dark, apart from the stars...... I lost count at 3 million!! Superb!
The area: Surrounded by Fishing lake, golf course, trees and..... nothing else! 'Peaceful' doesn't do it justice. There's a decent village pub, with decent food, about a 5 min drive away, but you can get a key off them which gets you through the back gate from the site, which them leaves you with, I believe, a 15 min stroll. Didn't try it, so can't confirm. 14 miles from York. Best bet is a 15 min drive to Park & Ride, then hop on a bus, Gus. 5 min drive into Pocklington, which gives you everything you need. Pubs, shops, supermarkets, restaurants/takeaways etc. Easy and pleasant drives to the likes of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough, Whitby etc, and one place that I would recommend for a short day trip is the market town of Beverley. Nice 'High Street' shopping area, pubs, tea rooms etc. Very nice setting, with a very laid back atmosphere. Superb!
Be aware: There is no on-site shop, (nor one within walking distance), no bar/pub/cafe, and no kids under twelve...... all reasons why this place went straight to the top of our list!! Superb! Saturday morning is particularly busy, with anglers turning up around 8am ready for their weekly (I believe) fishing match. By 9am, they have settled by the lake, and you wouldn't know they are there! Other than this hour, the only sounds you hear are, the owner sitting on her mower for approx 1 hour every other day, owls hooting of an evening, robins tweeting of a morning, the odd chinking of wine glasses, the odd guffaw and giggle, the low murmur of the golfers as they trundle along their gravel path to the 9th tee....... and subsequent shout of 'Fore'!!
Summary: IF we owned a camp site, we would aim to own one like this. IF we ran a camp site, we would aim to run it exactly like they run theirs. IF (Scrub that..... WHEN....) we return to the York/E Yorks area to camp, we will, without question, stay here. Did I mention it was superb?
A massive thank you to them, and indeed to all fellow guests throughout our stay, for a wonderful holiday, in wonderful surroundings, with wonderful people. Superb! :-)
PS: We didn't end up staying for 10 nights...... we stayed 11!! Superb! :-)

Well what a fantastic site. The owners were very friendly and the site is a credit to them very well kept and in beautiful surroundings.
We initially took a motorhome on site but stayed longer in a cosy cabin which was great.
As previous reviews have said the showers are first class hot water very clean and well maintained through out the day.
We didn't fish but the lake looks idyllic and a lovely walk. So if you want home from home in a beautiful setting this is a must thanks for a great 2 days.

Just come back and we loved it - the owners were there to greet us and show us to our pitch -it was perfect -no noise only the birds -i had a couple of days fishing while there and fished the open match on saturday -but beware -the owners know how to fish.
There's three main toilets and showers 1 mans, 1 womans, and 1 disabled. (there's also a toilet for fishermen to use round the back so you don't mucky the nice ones!)
The toilets where spotless as were the showers and we never had to queue.
If they ever build a pub on site it would be the perfect getaway but until then there's a pub only 10 mins walk that serves food if you don't want to cook.
All in all a beautiful site run by nice people -we will be back!

This is the third time I have stayed at conifer lake. I just had to write another review because this site just gets better and better.
The site is only small and you feel you have found something very special when you stay here. The owners go out of their way to make this site special.
It's not far from our home so we are just able to chill out and take in the atmosphere. It's handy for sight seeing if you do want to get out and about and Pocklington is only a short ride if you want shops etc. Just love it.

I have finally found my perfect site!
I stay in my tent, and my parents have a motor home. This site is great as I can pitch nearby, rather than on a separate field. No children on site also means it's so peaceful. It's amazing how serene it is.
The facilities are spotless, the owners regularly clean them, and proper showers! (as opposed to having to shower with one hand, using the other to keep hold of the on/off button! Or even paying 20p for a 2 minute shower!) There are only three showers/toilets. I've been a number of times though and never had more than a two minute wait at the most!
The lake is beautiful. I've never seen so much wildlife in one place. Even had a robin sit on my camping chair!
There is a pub which serves food within walking distance. And York and Hull don't take too long a drive.
All in all, absolutely no complaints for this site. Couldn't be better!

What a lovely site really quite no road noise whatsoever. Well maintained and wooden figures dotted round the site with a fish pond. Shower block really modern and cleaned to a high standard, owner really passionate about maintaining standards.
Bonus for fishermen and golfers with lake on site and golf course next to site.
Only downside which is really not too much of a problem is no shop on site or within walking distance.

Just returned from a 4 night break at Conifer lake all I can say is this is a superb site. The owners are very helpful and can not do enough to help.
The toilets and showers are immaculate. This is a very peaceful place the only interruption to the quiet is the occasional golfer teeing of on the course that runs round the lake and park. I am not a very experienced fisherman but I still was able to bag up with many different species. Cannot give any fishing tips but watch out for the lilies once the fish get in there they are difficult to get out!
This is a great site cannot wait to go back.

Having used the UKCampsite.co.uk website to search for suitable campsites in the Bath and Chester regions, and wanting to camp somewhere commutable to York, I selected this site largely as a result of the superb reviews. The site owners were very helpful, and welcoming. The pitches were as close to flat as you could wish for, the electric hook up perfect for keeping the cool box chilled, and the phones charged up. Both my wife and myself use the 3 network, and were able to get a phone and 3g signal 95% time. (Handy when its scheduled heavy rain, and your looking for a rain free window to get the tent packed away).
York, to the north east is situated around 14 miles away, we chose to follow advise and use the park and ride. This cost I believe a total for the return trip of £5. 60 for my wife and myself, with the bus driver giving permission to allow my 2 dogs onboard.
Bridlington to the north-east was approx 25-30 miles away, taking around 50 minutes to the centre of town, were we found 1 hours parking free. Scarborough was approx 11 miles further up the coastal road, had we decided to continue on.
The campsite itself, was very quite and beautifully looked after. The toilets/showers being the best we have come across.
There were only 3 toilets, 1 male, 1 female and 1 disabled, however, there were only a small number of tent and touring pitches, and half a dozen small fishing lodges. I would say this was adequate for the site size. There was a freezer, and washing machine located in the utility room. Speak to site owners for details.
The owners have put a tremendous amount of work into making this a lovely site, with many varied flowers, plants, and water features.
The stroll around the lake with the dogs taking approx 10 mins was a pleasure. The stroll to the pub (The Plough) being a little further, please note, it closes 3:00pm in the afternoon, unsure of the evening re-opening time. I would highly recommend a visit to this site. Please note children 12 or over only.
