Hi all campers I've just come back from a 4 day stay at the hideaway and all I can say is fantastic, everything was great even the space facilities and the staff, and you must try the showers, superb and they even have fire pits for you to have a fire, great site and a thankfully to barnyard and his staff.

I'm not too fussy about where I camp, but there are certain pre-requisites that this site did a good job of ticking almost all the boxes for.
I chose the Hideaway for its proximity to the North Yorks Moors national park, its distance from major towns and noisy areas, and the fact that it allows campfires - something that is getting more and more difficult to find these days.
The site is situated in the village of Husthwaite, which is little more than a collection of houses with a quiet road running through it. There is no pub or shop, but Carlton-Husthwaite took us only 20 minutes to walk to down a farm track which has an excellent pub which serves great food.
The nearest shop is 4 miles away in Easingwold. HOWEVER, the campsite has its own well stocked shop for basics. I found the beer to be very expensive (£2. 50 a bottle), however everything else curiously seemed to have very little mark-up (£8 for a bottle of decent wine, £1. 80 for a pack of bacon, £1. 20 for 6 eggs etc). If you're not a beer drinker then you can rely on the campsite shop for most other essentials (yes - I consider beer an essential!).
The toilet and shower block is perhaps one of the finest I have come across. The site was full all 3 days we were there - never once did I have to wait for a shower to become free. There is a good pot washing area, a laundry and even a drying room where you can hang your towels - I have never seen a drying room anywhere else I have camped before - excellent idea.
Wood is sold on-site for £6 a bag which'll last you two days if you're doing small fires for a couple of hours. As far as I could see every pitch has its own dedicated firepit.
The sites location makes it excellent for exploring the North Yorks Moors, is close to York, and other historic towns like Beverley or Pickering if you don't mind a longer drive/ride.
I would certainly visit again if I were back in this part of the country.

Just returned from a 2 night stay in our little 3 man tent. The pitch was massive, we had a tap right behind us - on the T side-check the map on the website to book your ideal spot- the area near reception was quite noisy. The toilets lovely and clean, showers hot but you need to keep pressing the button to keep them going. Must recycle all waste-very specific. There was a little cute caravan which serves coffee and pastries, but it wasn't open mid week, Firepits are fab, we took our own firewood- cannot pick it up from area as it is protected. We spotted a few owls flying over. Airfield next door- which youll either love or hate- we enjoyed watching the microlites flying over. Few crying babies- one v young who didn't enjoy the heat packed into a campervan- but never mind. Few barking dogs also. The country lane down to site is quite rough, don't go too fast- village is very pretty but doesn't have a pub or shop(someones missing a business trick there). Owner friendly and helpful- very pretty site, shame its not an adult only site, could do with picnic benches as a bonus

A wonderful site which is hidden away and very peaceful. Site facilities are excellent and very well maintained with clean facilities and an indoor wash up area. Plus eco-friendly!
Pitches are large and most have the almost obligatory fire pit. Firewood is available to buy from the site shop. There's plenty of space for the kids to play and explore.
Nearby village pub is within walking distance and does great food.

My wife and i, have just come back from the hideaway after a long weekend away for ourselves without the kids, our first night we were`nt that impressed if i`m honest as there was a lot of kids playing loudly at the back of our pitch but after a polite word with them they moved back to playing on there own pitch.
As nearly every other review the facilities are great and the staff are really friendly and theirs nothing better after a long walk with the dog but to put your feet up by an open fire open a bottle of wine and relax under the stars.
Absolutely bliss and the weather was lovely as well

Nice little site, well-placed for visiting York and especially local attractions such as the White Horse and Byland Abbey.
It's not too expensive and the fire-pits (free, a nice touch in this era of greedy additional charges for fire-pits elsewhere) and facilities are excellent.
The staff were very helpful too, and a small shop in reception is decently stocked. Try the local cider - gorgeous.
Only negative would be that (in peak season) the number of pitches come at the expense of a decent playing area for children, but the site does confess to being small, so that's to be expected.
No pub in Husthwaite either, at least during our visit - the '1 mile Bar Nearby' icon must be as the crow flies!

Spent a few days at this site for the second time, we'll be back next year too!
Located in quiet countryside, less than an hour away from home for us but it feels like you're on holiday, peaceful and chilled out.
Camping field with hook up is perfect, huge pitches, all pitched around the edge of the field, pitches are mown but centre of field is left as long grass with paths cut in it, kids spend hours playing in it. No cars allowed in camping field so no need to worry about kids and keeps it quiet.
Barney the owner is friendly and relaxed, there is a fire pit with each pitch and they sell wood in the small on site shop.
The toilet block is Eco, always warm and with plenty of facilities, the only slight negative is that during busy times I guess because of its Eco status, it's sealed and therefore gets very hot and steamy.
Not sure what's in the local area as its such a lovely site that for a weekend we don't usually leave!

Just returned from here. This is a campsite with a business plan; with a vision and mission and all that stuff. It's 21st century camping.
I loved it. The place is very (very) clean and divided into several smaller fields so that it feels intimate.
The little shop on site sells essentials at very reasonable prices. There's a very warm drying room and a decent communal fridge. The little vintage caravan on site is open every morning in summer, selling posh hot drinks and home-made patisserie. The butcher vists on Saturday with a huge range of good quality meat. In short, this is easy camping for stressed-out townies.
Some tips:
The beck to the east of the site is shallow but steep-banked. Older children love playing in it (bring crocs or similar), but it could be dangerous for young ones.
It's possible to specify which pitch you want when you book - there's a map on the website so you can decide if you want an east-facing pitch for the morning sun or west-facing for the evening.
By all means hire a tripod for your campfire, but don't rely on it to do your cooking - it takes ages! We found it was better to cook stuff on a gas camping stove then keep it hot over the campfire.

A lovely lovely camp site. Great for the kids and lots of space for the tents.
Nice shower and bathroom facilities, they make you wear blue polythene overshoes or take your footwear off to keep it clean (although it annoys me when you see people who cannot be bothered).
They have fire pits on each of the pitches and sell logs too for a nice fire in the evenings. Small shop on site which closes at 6pm, not much sold in the way of food but has the essentials. Also sells local cider which is amazing stuff.
The guy who runs the places, his father runs the little airfield next door so you can try going up in a microlight if you like. Unfortunately it was a bit windy when I wanted to do it but I plan to go back soon.
One of my favourite sites!

We had a wonderful Stay.
We have never experienced such wonderful facilities. The showers and toilet block was spotless! Amazingly clean.
I love the fact that you can have a fire. Each pitch has a fire pit it was fantastic my boys loved it. We will be back.
We did have to remember to take things to entertain the children, but there is a park five minutes walk from campsite.
The campsite does have electric hookup, we did't use it but we will next time.
