Great site, well managed by the owner. Toilets and showers were modern and always clean and warm. It seems as though every small detail has been catered for and even some that would not normally be found on a campsite. Facilities included a pot wash area, small shop, a laundry room and a very warm drying room. Freezers are available for ice blocks etc. There are dedicated sockets for phone charging. Logs are available for the fire pits which each pitch has. The pitches are spacious and level but the site has not been over groomed which adds a really nice natural touch and makes it ideal for butterflies and wildlife. There is a small lending library and plenty of information on the local area. The local butcher visits on a Saturday morning selling quality meats, ideal for cooking over a log fire on the tripod grills available for a small hire charge. At the moment there is no pub in the village but that is set to change in 2015 when the local re-opens after a refurbishment. The site is very peaceful and the no noise policy after 11pm was respected by all during our stay

There are some nice scenic walks around the area, straight from the campsite gate.

Those that prefer camping or glamping without having to erect a tent are catered for with the provision of Bell tents and wooden camping pods, perfect for a few nights under the stars. Stargazers will enjoy the lack of ambient light. A clear starry night here is wonderful to see.

Barney, we can't fault your campsite. This is how it should be done.

Had 2 nights camping at The Hideaway last week. From arriving to leaving we have no complaints at all!

A very warm welcome from Barney (the owner) with facilities that are very clean and up to date. Potwash, drying room, toilets, great showers, fridge & freezers and a well stocked shop with free wifi around this building.

Going with a young family (2 adults & 3 kids. 5yo, 3yo & 1yo) the no noise after 11pm policy is brilliant.

We loved the fire pits that come with every pitch and even though it was raining for part of our stay we used this for a lot of our cooking along with hiring a tripod for a fiver. Logs at £5. 95 for a massive bag are very well priced too!

Parking is a little bit of an issue with the site not having a lot of parking so can be a bit tight sometimes but definitely not enough of a problem to take away a 5 star rating!

I would also of preferred to park the car next to our tent but all the pitches are close to parking and having the option of borrowing a wheel barrow if needed makes an easy unload even easier! Also if cars were parked next to pitches it would of made a very child friendly site rather unsafe. We were able to let our kids run around and do a bit of exploring knowing they were safe. Also loved the circles the pitches were set up in as it meant you got to know your neighbours and the kids made new friends!

Overall a very quiet and well looked after site and many thanks to Barney for an enjoyable stay. Can honestly say we would of stayed longer if work wasn't an issue but we will definitely be back.

A fantastic site! We had a great three night stay. The pitches are spacious and each comes with a fire pit which is a rare treat when comparing to other campsites. Toilets were modern and extremely clean. Freezer and fridge available. Very peaceful and although no play area, kids were very happy running around.

The track to the site was quite bumpy with lots of pot holes.

Only sockets to recharge phones therefore not able to use own hair dryer (there was one in toilet block but not v powerful!)

Would definitely recommend and return!

Lovely, friendly, well-run campsite. We stayed in a bell tent which was comfortable, fun, and well equipped (and meant we didn't have the hassle of setting up our own tent). We enjoyed being able to have a real campfire and the facilities were clean, attractive and well-maintained.

The campsite operates an 11. 00pm curfew which was brilliant and meant we all got a good night's sleep.

Would happily recommend and hope to stay on the site again.

A superb site in a great spot for visiting North Yorkshire. Once you've found your way along the bumpy track from the village the site reveals itself and it literally is a hideaway. It's incredibly quiet and peaceful, and laid out very thoughtfully with a central timber toilet/shower block that was fitted out and maintained to an incredibly high standard. There was always hot water and even though the site was pretty full when we visited (Tour De France weekend) we never had to queue for any of the facilities.

The block also houses a large pot-was room which has two freezers and a large fridge.

Firewood was available and each pitch had a pre-dug fire pit.

There was plenty of space, and some great walks to neighbouring villages - though the walk along the old railway line to Coxwold was very overgrown!

We'll definitely be back to this site, highly recommended.

My first thought as we drove in was that it looked overgrown and I was disappointed, however, when we actually got onto the site I realised that what the owners had done was really very clever! All of the pitches were kept very neat and trim but, to divide them, they had let the grasses and wildflowers grow very long so it gave a very natural look. The site was extremely quiet and peaceful and the pitches were very big so you weren't on top of each other. Nice country walks round about and public transport from the village itself if you wanted to leave your car. Add to that some of the best showers and toilets we have ever seen and owners who couldn't have been more helpful and you have a truly idyllic site. We will definitely come back!_

A secret hideaway is what every family needs now and again. Put away those tablets, laptops and embrace the countryside. We have been to many campsites and this is one of my favourites.

The fantastic communication during booking process and welcome as you arrive make you feel at home before your holiday begins.

The layout is open, spacious but still maintains a small friendly feel that you want on a family holiday- knowing your kids are safe to wander within boundaries.

Clean and toilets do not usually go together on camping trips- but these are spotless, people are respectful and keep to the rules.

The firepits are the main highlight and kept us toasty warm. Just don't forget those marshmallows!

Overall a super, family friendly site which we will be visiting again and again. Just book early as I think the secret is getting out !

Well done for keeping it so well maintained and friendly.

We stayed as a group of 17 adults and 10 children taking up all the Eco pods and bell tents for our 2 night stay in June and simply could not fault the accommodation in any way, I had not camped for over a decade but after returning from the hideaway set about acquiring a tent, trailer and and all the gear such was the impression it left on me, this place is fantastic for anyone who value a serene family friendly clean spacious quiet place to enjoy camping in my opinion as it should be. We are all returning next year and many of the group will return several times on there own in the future.

The Hideaway is such a lovely campsite, one of the best I've been too and I go camping a lot. The owner is lovely and helped with any questions we had. The shower block was the best of quality all facilities are completely up to date and the shower and hair dryer are FREE! The surrounding area is so quiet and relaxing next to a lovely village with a local pub and a small shop, only a small walk up the road. We visited many places around the area but need our car to get there. We are definitely going back and we are going to try the pods or bell tents they are lovely inside, the owner let us have a look. 10/10!

We have been camping for 20 years and this is definitely one of best, sites we have ever stayed at (possibly the best!). Stunning location, perfectly peaceful, the best shower / loo block we have seen (always exceptionally clean). Showers were free. On our first few days there the site was full but we never had to queue, and it did not feel busy at all. Good distance between pitches, and the fact that cars could not be parked next to units made for a very pleasant experience. Based in a lovely village with friendly local pub within walking distance, and lots of nice villages and towns within an easy drive. Good location for sightseeing in the York / Thirsk / Harrogate area; we also visited the Dales and the North York Moors. Small shop, but best to make sure you have your basic provisions with you. Barney (the owner) was really helpful. Having a firepit on each pitch was the icing on the cake, as was the 'no noise after 11' policy. There is no lighting on the site at night (apart from immediately around and inside the utility block, and this lighting was muted but sufficient) - this was a real bonus too - star gazing opportunities were great. Thanks Barney and family for a fabulous holiday.
