Went with a group of friends so totalled 12 adults and too many children to count! Weather was bizarre, ranged from poring rain to hot sunshine - literally one minute to the next.
Lovely campsite, very new so not mature but extremely well thought out. Toilets and showers were top notch, bordering on luxurious.
Plenty of outdoor fun for the kids and not at all crowded so enough open space for us to play cricket, rounders etc.
We didn't venture far and the pub was closed so can't really comment on local amenities.
All I can say is lovely location, great site. Will return no doubt. Oh and very helpful and friendly.

We stayed at this site for 4 nights over the half term break. The site is well planned with 3-4 smaller areas with spacious pitches and a central amenity building. Some of the pitches have EHU with 16 amps. There are also eco pods and bell tents available.
The pitches were a little muddy but they dried out quickly over our stay. In our field we had a large central place for children to play safely. Parking isn't allowed on the field but the car parks have been carefully thought out so the cars aren't too far away and there are wheelbarrows to help cart your stuff.
The amenity building contains the office including small shop for sweets, marshmallows and firewood; a drying room which is a great idea, we were able to dry off coats and handwash some clothes; a pot wash (3 sinks) with 2 freezers for your ice packs; and the showers and toilets. In the ladies there were 4 showers (including a bigger one, ideal for taking children in with you), 2 privacy washbasins, hairdryer, 5 loos and more washbasins.
The fire pits add to the site and firewood is available or you can bring your own. The bags could do with a bit more 'small sizes' of wood but were reasonable.
From this site we visited Helmsley, Flamingo Land, York and also did a short walk around the nearby White Horse.
It's a great site with a friendly owner and we hope to return.

Tried this fairly new site for the first time with friends, but also my 7 year old grandson.
The site is well away from main roads though accessible from the A19, and in fact accessed by a farm lane. The grass is still a bit sparse (I believe it's the second year open) and pitches are surrounded by earth banks. The warden though explained that wild flowers have been seeded so I expect things to look much better very quickly, though was by no means put off.
Pitches are a very good size and all are flat. Drainage seems to be very good (no mud even though heavy incessant rain until only a couple of days before). A great bonus are fire pits on every pitch, with either sacks of logs for a fiver or bring your own wood (no foraging).
Toilet and shower facilities are excellent, good quality and kept clean, in a central timber building that also houses the small site office with a very, very basic shop.
We were a bit wary of the strict-sounding website but found the site management much more laid-back than we feared. That said, everyone on the site was well-behaved (including a couple of large parties celebrating birthdays), partly I think to the website but partly because this isn't a site that would attract glampers with their TVs & stereos.
Cars are parked in adjacent car parks rather than on-pitch to preserve the grass, but wheelbarrows are provided to shift gear and most pitches are quite close to the cars anyway. In our case our car was allowed on briefly to unload as the ground was dry and hard.
If your kids need facilities beyond grass then this isn't the site for you since there are no playgrounds or play equipment. Our grandson Ben though hugely enjoyed himself playing football and rugby on the central field (around which we were camped so no worries over safety) with kids he met - which is how it's supposed to work in my book!
There's a nice pub called the Orchard in Husthwaite Village, less than 10 mins walk. Good ales, though the landlady's enthusiasm for playing her fave 80s New Romantic hits started to grate after a bit (less volume would have been welcome). The pub does a fairly wide food menu, though its strength lies in simpler pizza dishes.
York, Ripon and Helmsley are all a short drive away, so plenty to do and and see if you fancy days out. One of our favourite pubs was close by, the White Swan at Ampleforth, which serves divine food, close to fine dining, at bar menu prices.
This may well be my new favourite campsite and we will certainly return.

This was our first camping holiday in about 9 years, the last time we went we didn't have the children, so this was their first experience of life under 'canvas'! We found The Hideaway on the internet and were very impressed with what we saw, especially each pitch having its own fire pit!
The site is in a lovely location on the outskirts of the pretty village of Husthwaite, near the edge of the North York Moors National Park. On arrival, and throughout our stay, Barney and his wife to be were very welcoming and friendly, with nothing being too much trouble.
The main facilities comprised of a shower block, pot wash and drying room; all of which are only a year old, are of an excellent quality timber construction and feature modern sanitary ware. This was all kept in spotless condition at all times and the water was lovely and hot!
The fact that each pitch has a fire pit was a great feature and we made use of this each evening of our stay, we hired a BBQ fire-pit tripod whilst there and you can buy bags of firewood from the small shop. As you can imagine the kids loved toasting marshmallows over the fire in the dark; and if you're an astronomer we'd recommend taking your 'scope with you as the sky is very dark so the stars were breathtaking!
There isn't a playground on site (there is one within walking distance in the village) but our two just loved running around the site's field; we were fortunate as there was only a few tents there due to the very cold weather at the start of April, so they had loads of room to roam. The site has a small stream running down one side of it whilst on the other sides there is young woodland; Barney and co were busy planting additional trees whilst we were there so that in time this would provide more windbreaks and screening between the pitching areas.
Some of the tent pitches have EHU's, there are also Bell tents and Eco pods for hire. The site prides itself on being 'eco-friendly' and you can see that this is the case and not just 'PR'!
The site is well situated for days out as York is fairly close, Scarborough is about 45 minutes away, and then there is the National Park. One place we would thoroughly recommend is the nearby village of Helmsley which has a fantastic castle that the kids will love to explore, and for the adults there are some lovely cafes with menus worth exploring too!
If you like your sites to be peaceful and yet have modern facilities we would wholeheartedly recommend The Hideaway and we look forward to returning again sometime in the not too distant future.

This was an awesome site. We went with friends and had a really lovely time. What can I say from the moment we arrived how tranquil was this place not to mention the really modern toilet and shower block.
The owners were really nice too. Went to the pub in the village ( 5 or 10 min walk )very hospitable and a lovely warm and friendly pub. The walk was nice but take a torch as you will need it (very dark ) but fun. Might have to have a pod next time or a bell tent they looked really nice.
Will definitely be going back.
Well done 'The Hideaway '

Our second visit to this absolutely lovely site. A site obviously designed by one who camps and knows what is important! Facilities block always clean and stocked, and this is in part to everyone playing their part and taking off outdoor dirty shoes. This seems a reasonable request for the payback of clean floors. They are having settlement issues given the wooden build, but the owner is open about this and trying to manage the situation to the best of his abilities without it affecting campers.
Being allowed, even encouraged to have a camp fire is a excellent addition to this site, and all in a safe manner. The site itself is small enough to remain friendly, but big enough not to feel intruded on. The owner and his family are wonderful hosts and really make you feel nothing is a bother, and very kindly remembered us from earlier in the season!
The location is great, easily accessible, whilst feeling secluded and lovely pubs a short and pleasant walk away in the village and neighbouring villages. We've been back and we will keep returning!

Fantastic site! Lovely quiet secluded location yet 10 minutes walk to the fantastic and helpful pub in the beautiful village and about 10 minutes drive to Easingwold. Many of North Yorkshires gems are an easy drive away. Having said that, its the ideal location just to chillout and relax and look at the trees or stars.
Great toilet block with plentiful hot water, indoor pot-room with a couple of freezers and also a separate heated drying room. A shop/office that has a little bit of every essential you might have forgotten and Barney is incredibly helpful and keeps everything sparkling clean. There is even a book exchange should you run out of reading material.
The site is quite 'organic' in its layout which adds to its charm and the icing on the cake are the fire pits at each pitch. The pitches are large and well spaced out, some with electric hook-up. I loved the wild flowers and planting. The shop sells wood at a very reasonable price and includes some kindling to get you started and the whole site has minimal lighting to up the romance.
Plenty for kids to do. Lots of space to run around and hedges to explore. There is a playpark in the village but all the younger people seemed happy to make their own amusement.
The site is down a farm track, which is what you would expect from a farm track and the website is quite clear about this, but be warned. My boyfriend did manage to get his MG F down it though!
Actually I'm loathe to publish such a glowing review for fear that we won't be able to get a pitch next time!

What a fabulous campsite. The facilities are contained in a wooden building which also includes the campsite office (where you can buy milk, bacon, eggs, sweets, crisps, firelighters, firewood etc),
the showers/toilets, washing up area/freezers and drying room. The drying room was massively useful as it was a rainy few days. Unlike previous reviewers we did not find the showers to be too hot but there were a few problems with wet floors in the shower / toilets.
The site owner explained to us that the wooden building is moving as it settles which has caused problems with the shower water draining correctly. We were asked to remove our shoes if they were muddy or alternatively use the plastic 'shoe socks' provided. It would probably be more sensible to let people muddy the floor and just ask them to wipe their feet carefully as the on/off welly business was a bit of a pain.
The site is in a lovely place and a playground for the kids is totally NOT needed. Our children found a tree to climb, a place to make a 'den' out of a few sticks lying on the ground and generally had a fantastic 'outdoorsy' time.
Every pitch has a firepit and campfires are positively encouraged.
The site has lots of space, never felt crowded (even when full) and is extremely quiet. If you don't want to take a tent you can glamp in a yurt or one of the ecopods.

Just arrived home after a brilliant weekend at The Hideaway.
We arrived on a drizzly evening, but received a warm welcome from Barney & co. We made sure to pay attention to the directions for finding the site, which we'd been advised upon booking were very important as sat navs try to take you down a little cart track instead of the road by the Husthwaite sign. The road down to the site is more like a long driveway, but we found it easily enough using the directions they sent. Our friends had already been shown to our pitches so we knew where we'd be pitching. Barney had also pointed out where our EHU point was and offered to lend us an extension cable as it was a little further from the tent than our lead would reach, so we were soon sorted.
The showers and loos on site are very modern and clean - I've seen worse in hotels. The shower temperature was fine, and I like the fact that outdoor shoes are discouraged in there: shoe covers were provided and there's an indoor entrance area where you can sit to put them (or your own clean shoes) on. The pot washing area is also indoors (and also very clean). We didn't try the drying room or laundry but they are part of the same brand new facilities block.
We didn't try The Orchard pub in Husthwaite, which is down the road from The Hideaway, but we walked down a wet and muddy Ings Lane to a pub in Carlton Husthwaite for an evening meal (you can get to it by car if you go the longer way round). We got a warm welcome there too, and the food was good, though not particularly cheap. We bought barbecue provisions from the butcher who brings his van to the reception in the morning. The burgers and sausages are very good, and he also had a good selection of chicken, eggs, tomatoes etc. , and an impressive array of large joints of meat.
The campfire rings were a real novelty for us. You can buy bags of wood, with enough kindling to get your fire going included) from reception, but you can take your own if you want (foraging for wood isn't allowed as it's a conservation area). As we were chatting around the campfire in the dark, Barney came round to invite us to check out some local musicians who were doing a bit of an acoustic set on the other side of the campsite! There were straw bales set out to sit on, and a campfire. We couldn't hear them where we were so they clearly weren't being too noisy.
The site was nice and quiet at night, even though there were quite a few children.
The atmosphere on this site has to be the best we've come across. Not just because of the owners, but the other campers were really nice too. We can't wait to go back!

We visited this site a couple of weeks ago for our very first camping trip, so just for the one night.
The facilities were great, the ablution block is brand new and tasteful. Lots of local information in the reception area. A number pad to enter the shower block.
The showers were too hot as mentioned in other reviews, but I mentioned it in reception, and he quickly went to turn down the thermostat. A ledge in the shower would be helpful for holding your shampoo. There was also a cold water puddle in the changing area of the shower where the floor was uneven and water had collected, but perhaps I am being picky - I will have to become a real camper and buy some flip flops to shower in.
The best part of the site was the 'real campfire' element. Each pitch seemed to have its own campfire, and big bags of logs were available to buy for £5. It was nice sitting at night and watching all the fires dotted around the site - about 10 of us that night, though it was midweek.
The pitches were large (I think there is a 6 metre between tents rule). I was far enough away from people that I didn't actually hear anyone until they came over to help me pitch the tent - me being an obvious newbie. The evening was very quiet too. It seemed to be quite a family orientated place, but perhaps that is just camping.
I think a playground would be nice for the children, but it is a new site, and the children seemed occupied anyway. Its not a complaint, merely a pondering. There was a large open area in the middle of the site which was nice to play ball and frisbee in. I think there was a stream running down one side of the site, but we didn't check it out.
I believe the local pub was good, though I didn't go. It seemed popular with the other visitors.
I'm glad I picked this site for my first trip. It wasn't too big. It wasn't daunting. It was quiet, friendly and had a lovely cosy feel to it.
I'd definitely go there again - particularly if I was wanting to toast marshmallows on a campfire, or I'd go back if they arrange an informal outsidey jamming sort of session as mentioned on their website. Its the perfect setting for that.
