This is a great little site. We really wanted one that allowed campfires and had good facilities, and this looked perfect on the website. Happily it lived up to its promise. Great location, easy to find in a very pretty corner of Yorkshire, plenty to do nearby. Barney was very friendly and accommodating.
The main field, around the facilities block, was a little crowded when we got there but we were offered the field were the eco pods are which was lovely. Only two other tents in there when we arrived and lots of space for kids to play. This field did fill up a bit on the Friday but it still wasn't crowded.
Facilities are excellent. Only two niggles: water was too hot in the shower (I know I shouldn't complain about that but it was too hot for the kids) and they could have had handsoap above all the sinks.
You can't park your car by the tent, but that's ok as they have wheelbarrows to move your stuff, and it's not very far anyway.
Nice vibe, relaxed yet high quality which is what we look for in a site.
We will definitely be back.

Stayed here with a group of friends in june and the campsite and facilities are brilliant, new showers & toilets, with pot wash and drying room.
The fire pits are great and you can buy a bag of fire wood for £5. The campsite has teepees and little wooden houses which can be hired.
There is a nice pub the Orchard Inn 10 mins walk away in the village and they were very friendly and welcoming. If you want a nice quiet weekend in a lovely village I would recommenced the hideaway @ baxby manor 10/10

I can't believe the first review for this camp site, it's like they were staying somewhere different to me as I absolutely LOVED this site!
Yes, the site is brand new and so there were a few minor teething issues, such as some areas of the grass being seeded and cordoned off and the shower block being a little wet but all in all, that's all that was wrong and for a first week of opening, that's fantastic! We had electric hook up and it remained constant and uninterrupted all week.
The space between pitches is not actually defined and our closest neighbours were quite far away, far enough for us not to hear anyone talking or snoring at night. We didn't actually have a campfire outside our pitch but Barney quickly made one right where we wanted it!
We had plenty of space around out tent, enough for us to play with the frisbee while our neighbours set up a badminton net.
Barney and his partner and the most welcoming hosts and it seemed nothing was too much trouble, helping us out with local pubs, shops and even a doctor when my son needed it.
Well done Barney, your site is wonderful and I can't wait to return next year to see how it has matured.

As a newly opened and green camp site I thought it was wonderful, The owner is very helpful and his local knowledge is very handy indeed, We had loads of space and room to add our awning and wind break with no extra cost, the site was very clean and the toilets where heated and beautifully presented.
The airing/ drying room is a nice touch. The Glamping pods look lovely although we didn't look inside, also bell tents for hire is a nice touch,
We stayed for 4 nights and it did nothing but rain Barney was always helpful and kept the toilets spotless,
Selling bags of logs to burn is a brilliant idea and saves on foraging, the fire pits are a nice addition to the site bringing back tradition of being able to keep warm, not a gas heater in site.
And a butcher comes to the site every Saturday! the village offers a lovely Pub the Orchard in and is very friendly and the food is of a high standard oh and the local beers and ciders on tap.
Also the site is well sheltered and quite. Well when the owls are having a nap. Hee hee.

Just returned from 4 days on this new site, 5th to 8th June, a lot of hard work and money has been spent to provide a pleasant environment to stay and the log cabin style facility block, {reception, toilets/showers, pot wash and drying room}, is outstanding.
The owner Barney is a pleasant and approachable guy and is fully aware that as a new venture there are a few things that need to be sorted but nothing too major that cannot be sorted given time, another 12 months and we are sure it will be 100%, we enjoyed it as it is and intend to return later this year.
Being able to have a real campfire provoked so many memories of younger years of canvas and wood smoke, excellent, the varied bird song was a delight and when evening fell the owls surrounded the site, and we even caught one roosting in a tree near the stream at the side of the site.
The local village pub, {The Orchard Inn}, is highly recommended, the landlady Alison is very pleasant and welcoming. Loads of places to visit from the site, such as York and the North York Moors, and for supplies there is a Co-op at Easingwold, {5miles} or Tesco at Thirsk, {8/9miles}.

The plus points on this site are that the pitches are all flat and the ground is nice and soft. It is a newly opened site with brand new modern toilet, shower and washing up facilities. The drying room is a nice touch and was used by us a few times during our stay. Shoes must be removed on entering the toilet and showers which we were not advised of before arriving. The one problem with this is that the floor was constantly soaking wet from showers flooding the floor, so we always left with wet feet and trousers, it was a constant pain taking the children's shoes on and off at the door.
We were expecting a shop but there isn't one yet. There is one in the village, about 10 minutes walk away, as well as a pub which serves food and families are welcome. The site does have fire pits which is a nice touch but the pitches are very close together and felt a little cramped.
The children were told off a few times for walking on certain parts of grass as seeds had been planted, this would not be a problem but these areas were not clearly defined and one was at the bottom of the toilet block slope. Someone near to us was told twice to keep their dog on a lead but the owners dog was wandering around everywhere and doing its business in the middle of the pitches.
I felt the site did not match up to what the website promised, it didn't have the peaceful laid back feel we were hoping for. I think it's a bit expensive for what it offers compared to other sites at the moment.
There was not much room for children to play and lots of rules which were over enthusiastically enforced. Maybe this was all teething troubles but we will not be returning.
In summary the site is a good base for York and surrounding areas. The toilet and showers are modern and the drying room is good, the village pub and shop are 10 minutes walk away.
