In short, a great campsite. There for 6 nights, family of 5, in the mixed weather that a blustery August offered.
From the moment you walk in, it is clear the site is well managed and the campers respond to the way it is managed. Two very clear examples: (i) by 10. 30 p. M. The site is very quiet indeed and (ii) the site is spotless which is only noticeable because there were plenty of dogs around but absolutely no mess.
There are two showers each for the men and women, and two toilets each for men and women. The showers are 50p for 5 minutes: whilst not all sites charge, there is a benefit to doing so in that people don't 'hog' the showers. On balance, I think the nominal charge is a good idea. There is always the 'will there be enough toilets' nerves but none of the five of us ever had a problem.
An example of how the owners deal with issues: when we arrived, one of the women's showers was not working, so they opened up a wet room so that there was another facility available. It genuinely feels like the owners want to make sure you are comfortable.
We have an unnaturally large shaped tent but even that did not faze the owners: they were more concerned that we were comfortable. We had originally been booked on one pitch but the owner suggested another pitch for us which suited us beautifully.
On the last but one day asked to extend our visit by a night (which was a Saturday night): they did not have the room to accommodate us but their response: 'we'll make it work'. And they did.
The shop is more of a cafe and none the worse for it. A great place for a cup of coffee (and a chance to read the local paper). Wifi is available at no extra charge.
There was no specific children's play area but there did not need to be: the site was safe and there were large areas for the children to play.
There is no electric hook-up on purpose: the owners do not want people plugged into the telly all day. There is a facility for phone charging (although phone signal throughout the local area is poor - a benefit in my opinion).
There is a beautiful and very private beach about 20 minutes walk away - the walk itself is spectacular.
We were recommended activities, places to visit and places to eat. All of them were top recommendations. If you visit, there is a restaurant in Southerndown called Frolics (not a name that reflects the place) - Italian, owned by Franco, a Sicilian, whose food is just first class. Really, worth a visit.
Southerndown also has a great beach at Dunraven - a wonderful beach - and about 5/10 minutes drive from the site.
A great place to stay: a return visit is certain.

A lovely campsite with excellent facilities. Really warm welcome. Plenty of information about the local area. Very nice café on site. BBQs & Fire Pits available for hire at reasonable rates as well as charcoal and firewood on sale. Café/shop has some basics inc Wine & Beers. Ice creams also available. Very nice 25 minute walk to the beach which whilst quite rocky is sandy when the tide goes out. Lower field for the kids to kick a ball around and a decent dog walk if you take part of the footpath down to the beach. Pub just up the road serving good food and another a short distance away serving fish & chips. Good Co-op supermarket in Llantwit Major plus a very good butchers. We will return.

The site was busy as it was the summer holidays and I felt that it was over crowded with lots of cars traveling between the rows of tents and little ones having to be rescued and games stopped. Booking in felt rushed and there was some confusion over pricing, I paid 100 pounds for a tent and a trailer tent for two nights 3 adults and 2children which thought was expensive.
The area is beautiful and the walk to the beach enchanting.
A bit more space and less rushed welcome would have made all the difference.

Lovely site with long distance sea views and pub not far from entrance down lane. Very nice clean and modern toilets/showers and use of freezer for freezer packs. Nice friendly owners, gave lots of leaflets/information about local area. Didnt make the walk to sea as looked quite far. Arrived sunday to Tuesday so was also lovely and quiet. Would visit again when next in area.

Just returned from a four night stay and can't wait to return next year. The owners are lovely and very helpful. The toilets and showers are kept clean and there's also a utility room with a freezer which is very handy. They have a small shop but they could do well if they sold more as the nearest shop is over a mile away and not very well stocked. The views are vast with plenty of local walks. Monknash beach is more than 10 mins walk though, with our two year old it took us 40mins each way but once your there worth the walk, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs as there's several styes to climb over and the paths are very rugged. I would recommend this campsite if you enjoy the peace with your family. The owners keep the field clean and tidy at all times and I would recommend sitting out on a clear evening and admiring the night sky.

This is a small site and the owners are very always around making sure everything is ok.
The facilities of two showers per sex are not adequate enough when the site is busy as we had to queue each day. In addition we also had to queue to wash up, new experience for sure!
Great walks around the site to the beach and pub, it served the purpose for exploring the area.

A lovely warm welcome by a considerate owner. A good size pitch on a slightly sloping site which gave a view of the sea and a easy walk through a field and a wooded valley to the sea shore. This tock us 20mins. We enjoyed walking along this rocky coastline with our 6 and 8 year old boys. There were some open sandy stretches for those wanting a swim
The site was on a quiet country lane which sided one side of the site. No restrictions on responsible ball games which allowed us parents to both supervise and occasionally join in without having to go to a designated play area. This was a real plus for us.
The toilets were new, clean with plenty of hot water. Showers cost 50p for about 5mins. I thought 2 basins and 2 toilets for the men could be a squash if the site was full with the number of pitches but we had no problems.
Good choice of local pubs, one within walking distance, all doing food in a attractive part of wales.
We will be back!

Just returned from a 7 night stay and as a lot of reviews have said before, this is a great campsite. The owners are friendly and always around if you need them. As it is a small site for tents only it has a very personal feel ( long may this continue!). There are only two showers per sex but don't be worried about this as I never had to queue and my wife only had to queue once even when the site was full. All facilities are cleaned regularly. Even though the site is set out in an avenue, there is plenty of space for children to play in the bottom field which is hardly used and only camped in by larger groups i. E charity groups etc. The site was quiet EVERY night by 10:30pm, and they have people who camp on site to check this happens but you wouldn't even know they were there. As one person has mentioned before when everyone has a fire pit it can be a bit smoky, but to be fair this only happened on one night( maybe the wood was damp and it was windy). I did mention this to the owners and they were very pleased to hear feedback and said they would give it some thought, which was refreshing to hear. They have a shop on site but it is limited to drinks and eggs only. Great location to stay for lovely walk to the amazing jurassic beach (over a few stiles), and also very easy access to the area in general by car. Although about an hours drive the Gower peninsula is a must visit. If you like sandy beaches try Ogmore, but get there at low tide as the sand disappears after a couple of hours.
We read some reviews about the local pub The Plough and Harrow and as we have two young children were not sure so we tried the Horseshoes in Marcross which is a 5 min drive. They welcome families any time, they were friendly, the service was excellent, quick without being rushed. The food was great traditional pub grub, good portions, good vegetarian selection and a huge pudding menu. All very good value.
Thanks very much, we will visit this site again and can recommend it for a great holiday.

This is our third time to visit Heritage Coast Campsite and we'll keep coming back. Glyn and Philippa are amazing and incredibly helpful. We are a family of five and a small dog with a trailer tent, this site is ideal for us. Large pitches, quiet beach, coastal walks, open fires and Glyn's famous Breakfast Baps. The facilities are clean and brand new. The Plough and Harrow Pub is just a hundred yards away and Glyn & Philippa sell ice-cream! We were lucky to have glorious weather what else could you want! We'll be back!

Fabulous reception from the owners, they really are the 'hosts with the most!' :-) Very on the ball & straight on the case if anything is a bother.
Beautiful views of the sea & countryside and pretty much all flat pitches :-)
Facilities are spotless, though few - ladies has 2 loos, 2 sinks & 2 showers - never really a long wait if you timed it right, though when site is at full capacity take loo roll with you, I got caught out a couple of times! I gather there are plans for expanding the facilities so possibly more loos/showers?
Fantastic walk to the sea, approx 15-20 mins - make sure to check high tide times tho!
Fire pits & logs are available to hire - lovely idea BUT when the site is full & 'everyone' has a fire, if the wind is in the 'wrong' direction be prepared to be smoked out like a kipper! (I personally can't stand the smell of wood smoke & how its smell invades everything!)
Local pub, the Plough & Harrow is a 5 minute walk - great pub garden & fabulous selection of drinks, though I wasn't impressed with the menu (fussy me?!) & what I ordered wasn't pleasant :-(
Would I stay again? Yes! :-)
