An excellent, peaceful, tents only camp site with easy access to the Heritage Coast paths and some wonderful beaches. The site is small (only about 20 or so tents allowed) and only a few hundred yards from a fantastic pub, the Plough and Harrow. Shops are a short drive away, and include at least one farm shop selling local produce.

Glyn and Philippa, the site owners, are very friendly and cannot do enough to help their guests have an enjoyable stay. They provide free ice block freezing and phone charging, and will cook you a breakfast roll in the morning if you wish.

Don't let the current portable loo toilets and shower put you off, Glyn keeps them very clean (infinitely better than 'festival standard'!) and the power shower is better than many available in permanent toilet blocks on other camp sites.

The portaloos are there because this is a 'trial site' currently open in high summer only - Glyn and Philippa are in the process of getting planning permission from the local council for some more permanent facilities and to be able to open for longer. I sincerely hope they get permission as this site is fantastic, and with a more permanent amenity block would be just about perfect.

The walk to Monknash beach is down a picturesque little valley through a small nature reserve, and is easy enough for the averagely fit. Turning left at the beach and over the cliffs (or walking around the coast with caution at low tide) brings you to Nash Point with its two lighthouses and a little refreshment kiosk. Walking inland from there can take you on a circular route back to the site, of between 4 and 5 miles depending on the roads or paths taken.

There are no play facilities for children on the site, but there is a separate paddock to explore with plenty of birds and butterflies and a stream alongside in which we saw several small fish. There are horses in nearby fields and the site has some resident chickens for entertainment. Another bonus is that camp fires are allowed using the fire pits available for a small fee, and logs can be provided. Our six year old son thought this was excellent, sitting by the fire in the evenings and making his own toast on a real fire for breakfast!

The site has a 'no noisy groups' policy which is very welcome. Although not full during our stay it was extremely quiet from 10pm until 8am. An excellent site for those wanting to enjoy the countryside in a peaceful and friendly setting.

My wife and I have just spent a night at this lovely new site, shame we could only manage one night but as it's only 20 minutes away we hope to return in the not to distant future.

Yes the toilets are portaloos but they are spotless and if planning goes as it should there will be a more substantial structure soon.

There were approx ten tents on site during our visit and this left plenty of room, as the site is aimed at couples and families the full place was nice and quiet.

During the afternoon we took a short stroll to the Plough and Harrow, we had a couple of drinks and a nice meal, they had a great choice of real ales and ciders, food prices were very reasonable.

After returning to site we bought some wood and had a fire, shame it rained, but we enjoyed it just the same.

We hope this site gets the go ahead as it would give people a chance to visit this picturesque part of Wales, resulting in regeneration for the local area.

We fancied a week camping with some family members and it was so nice to see this new site in the Vale, an area that really lacks any decent campsites right by the coast.

This is just perfect. The owners were so welcoming and the location was quiet. It was near the Plough and Harrow, a historic Welsh pub and not far from the lighthouse.

Stunning beach and walks nearby.

The site was so well run. Everything was spotless and it had all the usual stuff you would expect at a simple site.

The mobile charger was such a good touch. Just plug in and take the key.

A site that generally attracts a very quiet camper - exactly what we were looking for. It was almost silent throughout - tucked away from view. No stag or hen dos here which was a real relief.

The owners brought us local sausage bacon egg, and mushroom baps at 9am which were out of this world. So nice not to have to clean a greasy pan up. They really couldn't do enough for us.

We would love to go back.

Still only portable loos and showers at the moment but I gather they may be getting permanent facilities.

I sort of want to keep this place a secret for myself! Very close to Cardiff

Had a cracking time at this campsite, the facilities were basic 4 toilets (portaloos), one hot shower and a running tap but were always very well maintained, but they are waiting on planning position for permanent toilet block.

The owners of the campsite were warm and friendly and couldn't do enough for you, and even offered to make you some breakfast rolls in the morning nice touch.

Even though there wasn't much for the children to do, I felt is was safe enough for them to wander around the campsite if they wanted to. There was a beach to wander down to if need be anyway.

The pub the was a very short walk from the campsite and was friendly enough.

All in all I would definitely go back to this campsite in this rural setting. Hopefully they'll be open for longer next season.

We have just spent a fantastic long weekend here with friends. The site is ideally situated for exploring the area, with a great pub just a few minutes walk away and a stunning beach within walking distance.

The walk down to the beach is not accessible with a buggy mainly due to uneven ground, but our 2 year old managed to walk there and back with gentle encouragement and lots of singing! Boy was it worth it -the walk is really pretty through the wooded area and then wow- what a great beach, Jurassic cliffs, huge pebbles and at low tide you get sand too.

The site owners were very welcoming and helpful, collecting and delivering ice packs daily, happy to suggest places of interest - Southerdown beach and the stepping stones across the river at Ogmore castle were both a big hit with all the family

We indulged in Pippa's fantastic breakfast baps delivered to the tent door. Nom nom !

We will definitely be returning to this beautiful area and lovely site.

We just spent 3 lovely nights at the well situated site. Although basic, the toilets and shower were always clean.

The site owners are so so helpful - always there and happy to answer questions - froze my ice packs and delivered them back in the morning - very friendly in suggesting a great pub to visit too!

There are some lovely beaches to visit locally - the local one at monknash was a bit of a trek over fairly uneven ground - not suitable for buggies!

Stayed for only two nights but loved it. The views were to die for and so close to the beach. My husband liked the local real ale pub too.

Even though the loos and shower was of the portable type they were spotless and there was always toilet paper available.

The owners were really friendly and were always around and answered all questions. Even though there was no electric hook up the owner was very helpful to provide a place to charge my phone and is hoping to install a charging station in the future.

The only negative is that there was no facility to refreeze ice blocs as we had milk etc with us. However the breakfast baps that were available were delicious and worth every penny.

Would definitely come back here again.

Just spent an idyllic weekend with five friends at this site. The facilities are basic (very clean though) although the owners - who are lovely - are seeking planning permission for permanent structures.

Situated a very short walk from the Plough & Harrow - one of the finest real ale pubs on the planet - and in the middle of beautiful countryside.

The owners are really friendly and could not have been more generous with their time and accomodating to us. They have set out to attract families and couples for a quiet, relaxing experience and judging by the silence which greeted us when we got back from the pub they have definitely succeeded.

Throw in the facility to rent a firepit and buy logs and the Breakfast Bap delivered to our tent and you have camping Nirvana.
