Arrived here last weekend to be greeted by fantastic reception staff who were very helpful and informative.

After we found our hardstanding pitch, we decided that we would prefer a normal grass pitch.

Within 5 minutes of contacting reception, Christian arrived and was brilliant. Helping us to find a suitable pitch and offering help to set up.

Christian is one of the maintenace team here and I must say that they keep the site spotless.

Lawns, borders, hedges, play areas are kept well manicured.

Toilet and washroom block was kept spotless at all times with a door in the shower which could be closed whilst taking a shower to keep your clothes dry. Piped music also was very nice.

Plenty of walks in the area and only a short walk to the 2 beaches nearby.

If your looking for a peaceful site, this has to be top of your list.

Many thanks to all the staff at Hele Bay for a great holiday and will not hesitate to visit again.

Shame not all holiday sites are not run like this one.

Highly recommended.

We visited this site for the first time, and were very impressed. Everything you need is very close by. Shop/garage within 10 mins walk, 2 beaches (both dog friendly all year round) within walking distance one is about 10 mins and the other about 20 mins. Pub with a great beer garden and restaurant 10 mins walk. The site staff are very friendly, and give you all the information you could possibly need on arrival. The facilities were immaculately clean, with the shower cubicle having a glass door inside instead of a curtain, so your drying area and clothes stay dry.

It is quiet and sheltered with a super child play area.

If pushed for a down point, it would be that a seat in the shower would be good.

I could go on much longer, but suggest you try it out for yourself. We will go back again soon.

If you go, make sure you visit the farm at the end of the second camping field for lovely large fresh free range eggs at a reasonable price.

We arrived in Sunny (Rained all week!) Devon for a 4 night break in our trailer tent, we were welcomed by the friendly receptionist, we found the site to be clean and tidy with good sized pitches for all.

We had a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids, and were extremely happy with everything the site had to offer, the play area kept the kids amused when we were on site, the toilet and shower block was very clean and well maintained, and all the staff on site were extremely helpful and friendly.

There wasn't much we could do about the weather, but we would definitely look to rebook for future breaks away.

Unfortunately, if I had to make a negative comment, they did not have a shop on site, although there was one a short walk away.

Also close to great pubs for eating out.

Highly Recommend as a base to explore North Devon.

What a great place, we arrived without a booking and was met by a very friendly and helpful lady.

We booked in for one night loved it so much we stayed for a second. We would have loved to stay for more but we had to move on for our journey further west.

We can honestly say that it is one of the best sites we have stayed at, the staff are friendly and helpful without being patronising.

The surrounding area is outstanding and the facilities are amongst the best you could get.

The local pub was an easy few minutes walk away, and very friendly. We had our dog with us and found it a very dog friendly site and area.

We will definitely be back and for longer.

We visited this site mid September this year and were delighted at the friendly, informative and helpful 'wardens' at reception. The site was immaculate, clean, tidy and had well proportioned sized pitches.

The shop was adequately stocked for the time of year and the staff were extremely helpful if they did not have the item required.

Although positioned rather high from the town centre and may give a few problems with the elderly unfit or disabled clientèle, we were able to walk into town and return to site feeling pleasantly pleased with ourselves at our achievement (we are in our 60s and rather unfit)!

We will not hesitate to return to this lovely site next year given the opportunity to do so.

Everyone wants different things from a campsite, for us, a family of 4 with young children who wanted a friendly quite place to use as a base to enjoy the locality with enough on-site to make it enjoyable and just a little bit adventurous, it was perfect.

On-site facilities were just enough - a small shop, a well looked after play area: zip-wire, swings, things to climb on, and a small separate area for toddlers. The toilet block was spacious and clean on the one occasion we used it.

The nature trail was an exciting dimension to the site which we explored a number of times when we were there.

There was a couple of pubs and a small shop at the filling station on the main road. One of the pubs was recommended for it's family food by site staff.

The site is a couple of hundred metres off the main road and enough in the valley for it to be really peaceful - although there was a big firework celebration at nearby Ilfracombe, which managed to shatter the quiet one of the nights we were there.

Within a couple of minutes walking distance is Hele Bay which although is small was very quiet when we went, but was well serviced with a cafe and toilets, which was all we wanted really. I even managed a spot of fishing from there after the kids had gone to bed - half an hour of spinning off the beach at high tide was a pleasant but not too fruitful experience (one very small bass)

The site is very close to Ilfracombe with all it's facilities which is a quick drive away (with young children) or a bit of a stroll for older children & adults, either along the coastal path with stunning panoramic views or out of the back of the site along the bridal way and back roads.

We found no shortage of things to do with the mixed weather we had.

The site staff were superb. Friendly & informative on our arrival, quick to solve our problems or offer advice.

Although we rented the caravan privately the staff quickly and efficiently sorted out a problem with the water, changed the gas for us and at the end of our break when we had a problem with our car were very patient and helpful in directing us to local car-parts suppliers.

The only downside from a purely personal perspective is that for people used to more rugged camping the site may be a little too ordered and clean!

Would definitely recommend and would return to this site.

Very tidy campsite with well kept pitches and a very clean amenity block containing nice warm showers!

Smallholder at the top of the site sells eggs and veg via an honesty box. The campsite shop has most of what you will need and there is a Tesco store less than 2 miles away in any case. The main harbour at Ilfracombe is 5 minutes drive. The walk takes about 15-20 minutes but is not a level walk.

Hele itself is very quiet. It has a bay, good walks and an adequate pub plus a very good little restaurant, unfortunately called 'Hele Billy's' Bar. If you can get over the name, this serves excellent quality food and prices are a snip.

The campsite is family run and all staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about local area and attractions. There is a good mix of chalets, lodges and caravans. Camping pitches are sited at the top end of the site.

If I was being supercritical I would say that the children's play area is a bit limited.

Just returned from a four night stay at this campsite. We were booked in for five but due to poor weather we left a day earlier. Checking in was good, very helpful staff we were given a map of the site and shown were everything was. A map of the local area showing beaches and pubs and supermarkets.

We were given a large pitch, thankfully as some of them looked a bit on the small side for a large family tent. The site itself was spotless as were the toilets and showers and we never had to queue once to use them. Large clean washing up area. Childrens play area and the nature trail was great to entertain the children.

Great site for closeness to town and beaches, although we had to drive to Ilfracombe due to our three year old. Too far and steep for young children to walk. Our only down side to the site, was we felt it was not private enough for us. The site was busy as school holidays, so lots of families and children running around. We felt our pitch was exposed to the traffic of people traipsing back and forth. I would recommend this site

We booked in for four nights on a standard motorhome pitch. On arrival we were greeted by friendly reception staff and allocated our pitch, unfortunately due to it's position opposite a hedge it was unsuitable for manoeuvrability so we requested to move. Initially we were told no but eventually we were shown another pitch. We moved on to it and ramped up as it was a bit slopey. However we soon discovered that it slanted not just to the front but sideways as well and try as we might we could not level the van at all.

We asked if we could move to a level pitch and were told that we could but it would cost another five pounds a night as it was a wider pitch.

Unwilling to spend any more we stayed where we were but it was on the main route to the toilets and on the only road through the site, the pitch was all gravel and it felt as though we were sitting in a beach car park and getting on and off the pitch meant driving onto the pitch on the other side of the road and reversing back on to the road.

The shower block was clean and the showers were hot, although having to use a key each time was frustrating,

The local pubs were good and there was a good bus service into Iflracombe

 Lovely site and staff. 10/10

Bad points:-

1. Following directions from the site has a very sharp right hand turn into lane - no good if you are towing a large unit. We had to go past it and turn around in the garage forecourt to approach from the left.

2.Showers and toilets closed from 11.30- 2.00 so we went at 10.45 they were closed for cleaning!

There was about four of us waiting to get in and we tried to tell the cleaner that it was only 10.45 and that we could use the block till 11.30

She did not understand our language!

Good points----Loads!

Toilets and showers spotless at all times as was the pot wash and the veg prep areas. Staff great so helpful at all times and all areas around the site were being maintained all day long.

The town of ilfracombe is lovely loads of places to eat and visit - the tunnel beaches a must! Walks are too many to mention coastal and normal all available from reception. So many places to visit in area. 2 Places to eat within 5 mins walk Both lovely and good value for money Hele Billys and the pub opposite.

Woolacombe beach is lovely parking expensive the further up the hill you go the cheaper it is. Cloverly is very pretty and well worth the money. If you have bikes the tarka trail is great from Braunston to Barnstable 5 miles each way both are great places to visit and you can park next to the tourist infomation in Braunston and follow the trail behind the police station. On the way back the Tarka inn is great for a well earned beer before going home. The wildlife along the estuary is worth a look.

Would recommend this site to everyone but it is a bit expensive for what it has. If you go to this site you will enjoy. Worth a mention that this is a very hilly area and most walks can be very hard especially the coastal walks if you can do this Watermouth Bay is a must.
