 Loved this site!

This was our second family camping trip and apart from the weather which was very unkind, we had a great time.

This site, and it's sister sites, have great facilities which we found invaluable with two young children. Camping area is a little way from the main site facilities but we were fine with this as it meant the evenings were very quiet.

Minor gripes would be that the showers are a bit tatty and the hot water inconsistent. Also most of the electric hook up pitches are a bit of a distance from the showers & loos, non electric pitches are closer and are also better sheltered from the wind (it can get quite breezy as up on a hill overlooking the sea).

It can be an expensive site but you are paying for all of the facilities as well as your pitch.

We've already booked for next year and got a very healthy discount for booking so early.

Just had a weeks holiday at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park. The views from the site are absolutely breathtaking, as you drive down the road to the reception you get a fantastic view across the sands.

Upon arriving at reception the parking is very limited but once inside the staff were very friendly and directed us to our pitch. The camping pitches are quite a distance from the main park.

As usual with all big sites like this (obviously they would prefer you to be in a static rather than your own accommodation) but being at the top of the hill you do get fantastic views although it was quite windy up there.

The site itself is on 3 levels and is quite hilly, the shower block being on the middle level so there is a hill to walk down to get to it.

The block is brand new and very nice apart from the fact that they seem to have used all the old fixtures and fittings on a new building. None of the toilets were fastened to the floor!

Some of the showers didn't have hot water! The majority of the shower cubicles didn't have locks and they just relied on people leaving the doors open when not in use!

The actual main complex was very clean and tidy, nice swimming pool and children's play area although the Golden Coast site was a lot better equipped for entertainment.

Lots to do around the area for children, far too much for us to get around and if anybody is familiar with Mist the sheepdog from channel 5, she lives about 2 minutes walk from the site and does a demonstration on a Wednesday night. Well worth going to see!

Also as previously mentioned The Big Sheep and Dinosaur Parks are worth visiting but try and get hold of the half price vouchers first.

I think this site is the best for camping but the Golden Coast is better for entertainment, Woolacombe Bay just needs to tidy things up a bit and it could be a brilliant site.

This was our second visit to this site. I made a few negative comments in my review last year and I'm glad to see some things have changed.

The toilets were cleaner and better equipped in the mornings and the crazy golf course has been rebuilt.

However, the showers were still cold and the locks still missing from half the doors.

That aside we had a great holiday, the bus is the best way to get about. We booked to go back in July with some friends and had another great break at this site.

The evening entertainment was good and the staff friendly and helpful. We will go back again. Excellent VFM!

The site is part of a group of 4 holiday villages in the Woolacombe area. As such it is quite a different camping experience to the majority of rural, countryside sites.

Indeed the first thing that strikes you after the view of Woolacombe Basy is the sheer size of the site – reception is amongst the static park and you then drive to the separate camping area which in itself is a big site (+100 pitches).

Whilst the camping site has its own amenity block (which is about a 3 minute walk from the furthest pitches) all the main facilities are back around reception including the children’s’ play area.

Over a busy Bank Holiday and school half term when most of the pitches are occupied there is therefore very little space for children to play in the vicinity of the tents. As we were leaving on the Sunday the site was dramatically emptying out and thus space (ie Unoccupied pitches) was appearing, so if you have very young ones and can avoid the peak weeks this may not be a problem.

There is also a big football pitch area just over the back of the campsite by the site’s golf course, which isn’t particularly well signposted or publicised and which does give space, but this is again out of view of the tents and across the road which leads to the site.

Whilst the leisure facilities may be a way away there is a good range. The outdoor pool/water slide is heated with views down over Woolacombe Bay and a cheap poolside cafe. The indoor pool is also OK, although more/better changing facilities are required.

There is a newly installed pirate ship in the children’s play area and the crazy golf also looks like it has been newly renovated. My wife tried the spa facility and there is also a shop as well as a cafe style restaurant, large bar area and amusements.

There are a range of shows and clubs if you’re interested, although I can’t comment as we didn’t venture in. You can also use the facilities at the other sites. We used the main indoor pool at Golden Coast which was nicer and better organised than Woolacombe Bay as well as the Bowling Alley and play area.

There is also a decentish Inn on the fringe of the Golden Coast site with a nice children’s play area which is good on a warm sunny evening. Whilst Golden Coast has the most facilities the central area is quite urban and concrete looking, Woolacombe Bay looked nicer.

The large modern amenity block on Woolacombe Bay had individual shower cubicles (containing sink and shower) large toilet areas, sauna, steam room and at one end of the building a separate room for washing up sinks and at the other a laundry room.

The showers and toilets were cleaned regularly and even over the Bank Holiday there were no queues. Pitch sizes do vary but you can check these when booking and most are a decent size; some have a degree of slope but the majority are pretty flat.

As well as the on site facilities, there is plenty to do off site. Mortehoe and Woolacombe with its long sandy beach are on the doorstep. Ilfracombe is nearby as are a host of small seaside villages.

There are a number of tourist attractions in the area; I picked up a discount voucher for The Big Sheep from reception which was an entertaining day out, especially for younger children. Would have been a bit pricey without the voucher but good value with it.

Alas with big commercial parks you get a lot of people on site and it only takes a few idiots to spoil the situation for all. I had to ring the night security on our last night as a group of surfer types returned to their tent at 3.00am and proceeded to laugh, talk and shout at the top of their voices and there were others for whom alcohol seemed to be the main focus.

I’m therefore a little torn over this site. It is in a great location and has a good range of facilities at a reasonable price (although it does get much more expensive in the main Summer holiday period). Certainly if you want to take advantage of all the facilities there is a lot to do on site and plenty in the area.

The area is one I visited many times as I child and one to which I would undoubtedly return again. As to the campsite I certainly wouldn’t visit in July or August (due to cost and the inevitable crowds) but if I could pick a non busy week, and hopefully the sunshine we got for most of this stay, I would visit again.

We have just come back from this site. My opinion is very honest and a true reflection of our experience.

The site is set on a very hilly spot which overlooks the hills and beautiful view for all to see. Finding your pitch is not easy as pitch no's are overgrown also be warned electrical hook ups can be a long way from your tent - luckily we had a 50 mt with us but a lot of people were struggling.

Toilet block is a walk and facilities were ok if everything worked ie :- shower doors a lot of them did not have locks on them - some taps did not work at all - showers were often cold - however if you got one with all 3 working then well done is all I can say ! Did report this to Reception but fell on deaf ears. Clubhouse is good - did put a lot of effort into entertainment and staff friendly.

Downside very expensive but you have to expect that. Site overlooks the beach which is a beautiful beach. Also have a lovely play area for the little ones.

Food in the clubhouse poor - service took ages to cook and was of a poor quality with an over inflated price attached to it - however a lovely pub in Woolacombe The Red Barn which did great food.

Indoor pool - nasty and very dirty worst I have been to - outdoor pool only opened on one day. Again be warned if you go to the indoor swimming pool children cannot go on their own (has to be over 18). They fail to inform you on this on the website. Do not provide a life guard.

All in all pretty site but we thought expensive for what it is cost us £242 for whitsun week.

First time users of this site and was keen to ensure that there was enough to keep my 9 and 13 year old kids occupied, I was not disappointed and neither were they, Indoor & outdoor pools, club house with Pool tables, table tennis, video games and kids clubs during the day and evening.

The beach was accessible by bus or a 25 minute walk(bit of a slogg)

I was on the same pitch as an earlier poster Sue, so it was used as a cut through for kids heading to the toilet and shower block, wasn't a major problem as my kids were normally part of the Gang.

I could run through all the other plus points of this sight but won't as these are covered by other reviews, the main plus for me was that my kids were safe to go and explore and make friends allowing myself and my wife some down time.

Is the site perfect. No, but we will be going back and would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone.

This site has good facilities close to static caravans, tent fields a good 5 min walk from shop and entertainment / pool area. Staff friendly, but really not geared up for campers, cold showers even at low capacity, bit of a trek to loo if on electric pitch.

Washrooms in camping area are next to the pitches without electricity, these also have best view. You have to walk up a sloping track to pitches with elec. And need torch at night

It was awful weather for whole week there, and only 25% pitches being used, but we still rarely had a warm shower, this is no fun with small children in really rainy weather. Sauna and steam room never worked all time there.

Pitches well laid out but really close to road/track that other cars use. Our 6 berth outwell was tucked all way to back and still hand windbreak overhanging edge of pitch.

The facilities were spotless and were kept really well. Lots of toilets and showers which varied in temperature. The pitch sizes where very big especially pitch 96 and 145 and for non electric I would definitely recommend pitch 1.

Noisy campers a few nights but complained to reception and they sorted it out. All pitches were close to the toilet block which had a steam room and sauna in.

There was plug in points for example hair dryers at the laundrette which were free. Amazing views of the beach seen from anywhere in the park. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced.

The children's playground had lots to do but crazy golf needs updating. The outdoor pool was very warm so never be put of if it isn't the best of weather! Also there was a very cheap (the cheapest of all the parks) beach hut cafe beside the pool and the produce was very good.

The indoor pool was a good size but the chlorine was way to strong. The bus rides down to the beach costs £3.50pp for a week which was worth it because to park at the beach costs around £6 a day.

but from the campsite there was a walk down to the beach which didn't take very long so if you missed the bus coming back it wasn't a problem. We visited all four camp-sites golden sands, twitchen house and easwell farm. For camping I would say woolacombe bay had the best pitches and views. Overall very pleased with this campsite and was worth the money.

The surrounding area is very pretty and there is lots to do. The beach is very clean and the surfing is the best I have seen! The little town has some amazing shops where you can buy some beautful things and of course all the things you need for the beach like wetsuites and body boards.

One day out I would definitely recommend is The Big Sheep there is lots of things to do and you don't have enough time in the day to do it all but well worth the money.

We spent 10 nights here with two toddlers and a dog. I would highly recommend this site.

Easy check in procedure. When we got to the pitch it was too small for out tent so I called them and they soon moved us up the hill. The pitch was flat and marked out by a little hedge.

There was a water supply electric hook up and waste facilities nearby. The skip bin was emptied every day.

The massive shower block was unisex and very clean. There was even a sauna and a steam room. Toilets were spotless. One complaint was there was no family shower room. Only a small plastic baby bath in the disabled shower which also had a toilet in it, which is stressful trying to keep a terrible 2 year old away from it.

The showers were not temperature controlled so not ideal for washing little ones. We did however find a good little electric shower down by the outdoor swimming pool which did the trick. The other complaint that there wasn’t a girly bit. Maybe the toilets could have done with a counter and some mirrors with electric sockets. To do your hair and stuff.

Washing up facilities with large sinks. And Laundry room with an iron. A security guard was also based in there and did a lap of the site every hour.

The Camping area was set away from the caravans and club house. Which meant you didn’t get any noise. It was its only little entity. The views were fantastic over the bay.

On site was a heated outdoor and indoor pool. Both very warm and clean. You couldn’t take the dog around the pool but it was surrounded by a fence which meant she was tied up right behind where we were sitting. The little poolside café was lovely. The couple who ran it were great.

They had a big club house with children’s entertainment every night from about 7. The restaurant upstairs wasn’t a la carte more burger and chips. But it was clean. There was a shop on site which sold most things. The fresh bread and pastries were good 1st thing in a morning but you had to be quick.

The double decker open air bus that took you between sites and down to woolacombe beach was very good. The driver was very patient with us getting two toddlers a dog buggy and all our gear on. You bought the ticket once and it lasted you the whole stay. You could also go and use the facilities at the other 3 sister sites too.

If you wanted to walk to the beach it was down a very steep hill and if you drove the car parks charged by the day around £5

The children’s play area was a little tired and twice a week they did pony rides around the park. There was a crazy golf which was free and tennis courts.

There are loads to do and see in north Devon. One of our best days out was to the Big Sheep and the ilfracombe beach tunnels were lovely. The café and play area were outstanding.

Days out are difficult when you have a dog so we booked her into nearby kennels for the day which only charged us £10. (Lakeside in Lee)

In all a very good holiday which was made even better by the excellent weather.

This was our first visit to this site and won't be our last. It is easy to see why it is an award winning site from an entertainment point of view. The swimming pools, club house, restaurant, shop etc. All excellent, although the crazy golf course could do with a bit of TLC.

The Billy Beachball Bus was a great way to get about and we took advantage of the Bowling alley at Golden Coast. Our daughter was unable to 'walk on water' as it was fully booked all week - advise booking this activity ASAP or at time of holiday booking if you can.

Sadly, it is let down by a few basic faults. The toilet/shower block at first glance had 'wow factor' but the reality was a cold shower more often than not (we took to using the indoor pool showers)only one hand dryer and approximately half of the cubicles - toilet and shower - had no locks. The cleaner didn't appear until 9am so the early morning comfort visit became a frantic search for a cubicle with both toilet paper and a lock! Early morning cleaners would avoid this.

We were pitched on the top of the hill overlooking the sea and the toilet/shower block. This meant fantastic views but we were subject to regular pitch invasions from children using our pitch as a direct route down the bank to the toilets. We no problem with the electric hook up although it was worryingly close to and on the same post as the water tap. This was a communal tap and there was meant to be a hedged walkway between ours and the next pitch but this was so badly neglected that there was a beaten path through our (and our neighbours) pitch for water.

Despite a heavy downpour on the first night the field we were in drained and dried out quickly so no problems on that score.

This may seem like a negative review but as I said at the top we will visit again as the positives outweighed the negatives. We barely had to take the car off the pitch and were never short of things to do. The staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks to the barmaid who gave us the spot-on advice as to the best chinese take away!
