Despite what I had read about the site before it was pleasant.
I agree with the other reviews that it is lacking in toilets and showers. We stayed over the jubilee weekend when it was full, but didn't have to wait for any of the showers.
I found that only having 1 elsan/waste water point quite a distance if you were up near the reception. As I say I only found 1 there may have been more.
Kids enjoyed the play area, although again not one you can see from where you sit.
Hardstanding sites are, in my opinion, are too secluded, I am used to having grass and an open field. So beware as I didn't specifically book a hardstanding so that was a bit of a shock.
All in all, a good weekend.

We went here for the week running up to Jubilee weekend, the beginning of our stay was lovely, peaceful and quiet, then come the Friday of the start of the Jubilee weekend there was a lot of others arrived and some not the quietest of folk.
There is loads to do in the surrounding area as it is in the heart of 1066 country so there's lots of historical places to see and visit. We were there specifically to visit family who live in the area so didn't do many touristy visits as we did most when we lived in the area ourselves. But I can say there is lots going on all around the area.
The site itself was peaceful and Steve and his partner were very friendly and helpful. However I feel for the size of the site the toilet/shower facilities are lacking, although clean there just would not be enough if the site was full.
The children's playground was ok for our grandchildren who visited us but could use some equipment for younger kiddies. The shop on site was severely lacking in anything on our arrival but in readiness for the 'Big' weekend I noticed that stock had been got in, didn't help us though, we had to get all supplies such as bread and milk etc from the local village shop over a mile away by car. Having said that the village shop in Catsfield was well stocked with just about everything you might need. Overall we had a great time.

We stayed here at the weekend in our caravan. Staff were friendly and we were given a map to our pitch. Pitches were a good size, and the site was very quiet and peaceful despite there being lots of people there. Toilets and showers were very clean.
10 minute drive to historic Battle which was good to potter around and had several good coffee shops and pubs, and shops including budgens and co-op. 20 minutes drive in the other direction was Ravenside retail park - large tescos, mcdonalds, kfc, pets at home, boots, halfords. Hastings with its old town, arcades, world famous crazy gold course (apparently they hold the world champs there!) and shopping centre was only a 20 minute drive away.
Lots of nice dog walks nearby, beaches at Cooden and St Leonards, Highwoods, Battle Great Wood and Darwell Reservoir. Despite the rainy weather we had a lovely relaxing time here and will definitely return again.

Well I was unsure about this Easter break. I booked this pitch before I had read the reviews and I was worried and as it turns out for no reason at all.
When I arrived I was met by very helpful polite and smart staff, I was given a map and directions to my pitch when I got to my pitch the site manager came along to check I was happy and that I knew where the hook up was etc.
I will say the shop didn't have much stock but the manager went out for me first thing and got some fresh bread and milk from the local farm shop delicious !
The toilet block was not the best I have seen but it was perfectly clean, the only thing that lets them down in my opinion is the washing up area but that is a very small part of any break.
The play area was fine swings etc kids loved it.
The actual area 1066 country is amazing full of local history, Battle Abbey and Battle itself was lovely, the site is central to a wealth of interesting activities.
So I will return and would recommend it to anyone that wants a quiet break in a beautiful place, I do not understand previous reviewers and there comments all I can say is things must have improved since last year.

Booked 1 night here as visiting friends in area. Welcoming staff at reception. We were given map to find our pitch and shown where sanitary block was.
It was an overcast day so this may have coloured our judgement plus our last camping had been in french camp sites but we found the site looking a bit tired and worn round the edges. The sanitary block was small for the size of the site and in the men's there was a broken basin and not very well cleaned.
One toilet was closed and someone was mending that when we left. The showers could have done with more hooks to hang clothes etc. If there had been some mops left for people using showers this would have helped in wet weather together with a cloth available for wiping basins.
The showers are free and were hot with no timers and the block was heated but in the washing up area there was a dirty plastic chair and an old wooden crate. The pipes were encrusted with dirt.
As mentioned before there were no lights from the sanitary block to the area where we were. The size of the pitches were average.
We didn't use the shop or the bar so can't comment on these. Generally we were disappointed and wouldn't return here.

Booked for a week stay- and wished we hadn't! The pitches were small, with no definition of pitch, so had other people in your space, with not really any room to park your car too. The shop was very basic and fairly expensive.
They state they have a bar and games room, well, the bar didn't open, and in fact they haven't had a bar for a year now, and the games room is open from 9am till about 5pm, then it's locked up- but it only has a pool table and football table anyway!
The shower block was the worst we've ever seen. Tired and dated and in need of a really good clean. 3 showers, although, 1 shower was only a cold water shower, 3 toilets, and 3 sinks.
The shower runs from boiling hot to freezing cold throughout the shower, and even at some points the water turns off completely, so you have to wrap your towel round you, walk out of the shower room, into the ladies toilets and flick on the trip switch again! You may come out of your shower as dirty as you go in, as the floors were so dirty, with no proper drainage, or mops to clean up after you, so the mud from the campsite was all over the floor.
Block shuts at lunch time for cleaning, but the chap cleaning does it in about 20 minutes! Twice ALL of the toilets ran out of toilet paper, and had to remind reception to fill them up.
The washing up area is in a lean to, and there are 2 sinks, with a dirty plastic chair and a wooden crate, and really dirty.
Issues with wasps nests in the woods, and when reception informed, they sorted it with a can of rapid! Hence to say, wasps nests stayed.
The play ground was awful, we visited it once and didn't go back. Exposed nails, most of it broken, and really boggy, even though our week was hot and dry. Very disappointed with the site, even at the price of £22 a night, really wouldn't ever go back.
Nothing for kids to do, except play football outside your pitch, which isn't big enough anyway, and a few walks in the woods for dogs, but nowhere to exercise them

Brilliant Campsite, made us very welcome.
Myself and my girlfriend went out for a last minute camping weekend, we wanted somewhere we could have a semi peaceful night away.
We went to another site first which was terrible!
However we were made very welcome at Senlac wood and told we could pitch anyway.
We had a 3 man tent and pitch under some lovely tree's and were all by ourselves but not so alone it felt like just us!
Washing up area was a little dirty and bin area over flowing, however all in all Perfect.

We were disappointed, we found the toilet block not as clean as we would have liked and for the size of the site not really adequate, and quite a long way away in the pouring rain.
The site we were given flooded because of the sloping ground and we had a terrible job trying to level the caravan. As we are a party of adults the children's play area did not affect us, but the fact that they advertised a bar on site was misleading as this did not open at all.
The people that were working on site were very nice and helpful. The dog walk was an old paintball site and was full of old tyres and oil drums.
The nearest place to eat was said to be a five minute walk away it was a good 15 - 20 minutes
But it was a very welcoming public house (the Squirrel Inn)that allowed us to take our dogs in with us. The site has what we thought to be unnecessarily high speed ramps

Staff here are friendly and welcoming and we paid £22 a night for caravan and 4 of us so relatively cheap.
The site is in lovely woodland and very peaceful, children really enjoyed the woods and play areas.
However the toilets and showers were absolutely filthy when we were there, they looked like they hadn't been cleaned for a very long time, the decor was ok they just needed a good clean, by Saturday there was no loo roll in the ladies and was never replenished so they certainly weren't even looked at over the weekend.
The bins were overflowing, never emptied and I saw a rat.
Some pitches were nicer than others we were with the caravans that are permanently on site and they looked dirty and there was a lot of junk lying around. Some of the other areas were a lot nicer.
Its a shame the owners are missing a trick for the sake of some cleaning and some rules about keeping the permanent vans tidier the site would be great, all of which would cost nothing. There were a lot of empty pitches on a weekend when we couldn't get in anywhere else. I'm sure they could increase their business and fees if they cleaned up.
Tolerable for a weekend but no longer.

This site was easy to find with a well thought out and planned tent and caravan pitch locations. The facilities were clean and tidy and relatively new. My only slight issue was the hill leading up to the toilets. If you are a little older or out of sorts this hill could be a little steep. It could also do with some soft lighting leading up to it as the forest is pitch black very late at night. Luckily my torch app on my phone always seems to come in handy in these situations. The pitch itself was flat with the electricity hook up and water tap fairy close by. The road around the site was very close to the pitches which could explain the road stones on the pitch which if unseen when putting the tent up makes it impossible to go anywhere barefoot. Overall a nice place to visit.
