We took our large tent and booked an electric hook up pitch for the 1st weekend in April for 3 nights.

It was a great site and the kids (6,7,8) loved it and didn't want to leave. We only left the site to go go the supermarket for bits we had run out of.

Will definitely be coming back. Shower & Toilet block were spotless, even with a little rain.

Everyone was really friendly and couldn't have picked a better site!

We camped in the 'paddock' area - near the children's playground, it was more open here without too many trees, therefore we could make the most of the sunshine.

The playground in the woods was excellent, I had 4 children with me, two 9 years old and two 10 years old and I hardly saw them for the 3 days we stayed here, as they were off playing with all the other kids!

As stated in the other reviews the toilets and showers could do with a good clean and have a few more facilities. But saying that I only had to wait to use the washing up sink, I never did see a queue for the loo or showers.

There also seemed a bit of a problem with allocated pitches and people in the wrong place, but the staff were very helpful and it all got sorted out satisfactorily in the end.

All in all I would return here as the children so enjoyed playing in the woods and playground and I thought the fees were reasonable even though the facilities weren't top notch!

We arrived on Saturday of the late May bank holiday in tent, found the site very easily. However we were disappointed with the site we were offered for our tent. We looked around to see if any better pitches but obviously they were fully booked. The pitching areas are gravel car parks in between the trees - the site could be lovely if a little grass could be laid as the woods are very pretty.

The facilities are very basic and could do with a scrub, also each time we went to the loos / showers there was a power cut which seemed to happen all weekend (not good for the poor chap in the electric shower in the dark covered in shampoo!)

The staff couldn't have been more helpful though. The area is lovely, Battle is well worth a visit - especially the battlefield and abbey.

Also the Squirrel pub is lovely (take a torch for the walk back to the campsite - very dark)

Booked for the second bank holiday in May, with another unit for the 3 days

Arrived and were directed to location, we found it was in the woods, and having a twin axle found it was a little on the tight side.

These pods are actually cut into the woods, and are covered in road gravel, level but very hard and harsh under foot, so take the rock pegs.

We found ourselves with 3 twin axles and one single axle, and parking around units was sparse, so play area for little ones was none!

In short if you looking for a quiet little spot under the tress then this maybe for you.

If you have very little ones and want a bit of run around space then you may wish to look elsewhere.

Toilet facilities are basic, could do with some TLC but then we are campers aren't we and not booking 5 star hotels!

With the rain falling on the monday we soon found that the gravel did not allow the water to soak away and found numerous large puddles appearing in the awning areas!

Cost was £54 for 3 days, for 2 adults 2 children and an awning, so not the best price but we were glad to get away and made the most,

In short not the site for us with a 5 yr old and 2 yr old, we needed more grassy play areas, but might be ideal for those looking for a quite hideaway, but just make sure your ok with the bugs a creepy crawlies that come out of the woods at night!

We arrived late on Friday for the Bank Holiday weekend and met our friends to spend the weekend. All together we are 4 adults and 4 children aged 4 - 6 years.

We started in one of the many glades although we asked to move to a more sunny area. The staff were extremely accommodating even though they were fully booked and made every effort to fit us in. They even 'rigged up' some additional power for us as there wasn't any on the pitch.

Negative // There were only 2 toilets and 1 shower for the men which did not seem anywhere near enough for the size of the site. The facilities were filthy dirty and had not been cleaned for quite a while.

Positive // The children's playground was excellent and entertained our two all weekend. We walked into Battle (5km) which is a lovely town with lots to do. There is also a pub (The Squirrel) on route for a welcome refreshing drink.

On Sunday we drove the 10 miles to Pevensey Bay and enjoyed some great weather. The children loved the stoney / sandy beach.

The weather was gorgeous and truly made the weekend. I feel that this site has potential if it is given some love and attention to detail.

We spent a nice 2 nights at Senlac Wood. There is opportunity to pick your own pitch, in amongst woodland clearings, some have a bit of grass but our area was completely hardstanding, you probably need a long lead as some electric points are up the bank in the woods. There is a track through the woods to a water point, and the loo, or you can walk the long way round the road. Its pitch black at night, you need a torch. It was great for us, we had our 3 dogs, as it was very quiet and no one else in our bit, and there was another big long track through the woods where I could let them off the lead. The staff were friendly, the bar was open till 'all hours' according to the owner (but we did not hear any noise from there) and the staff regularly go round (too fast for my liking ) on their quad bike, which was a bit alarming with small children around. The tent area is a more open grassy area, again some really nice spots. They have a large chicken coup in the middle of the tent area, ( eggs for sale) and they have a rooster, so unless you don't mind cock a doodle doo right in your ears in the morning, be warned. The loos/showers were clean but a bit run-down looking. The shower water was lovely and hot, with 1 large cubicle and 3 small, I couldn't see anywhere to put my clothes in the small ones so I used the big one. Theres only 1 washing up sink, a washing machine and a dryer. All other campers were very friendly, and it was silent at night. Theres a pub just up the road and we went out for the day to Pevensey and Eastbourne- far end, where the dogs were allowed on the pebbly beach. Theres a newish small play area made of wood, its suitable for smaller children age between about 4-8y. Some people had accumulated loads of stuff ie bits of motorbikes/ animal cages (but no animals) around their vans, but as it is a secluded site, I only know that because I was nosey and looked into the other areas. All I can say is the owners must be relaxed about it. So its not a pristine site by far, but it has lots of good points. They also do paintballing there, as we saw people arriving to set it up on Sunday.

Very good site, as people have said basic, but toilets very clean (just don't look in the cupboards under the sinks) Showers 4 for each sex, again very clean. Electric hookup all round the site, if you are in a Caravan there are also some very nice tucked away 'pods' for pitching into with about 6 vans per pod.
Looks like a lot of work is being done on site, Great kids play area I also like the fences and chicken run, as they are all made out of wood from local trees. The only problem seems to be that tent space is limited and not very level hopefully part of the work is to add a seperate tent field. This site is now on my regulars list

Campsite as other reviews have said was back to basics. Toilet & shower block was clean and the water was hot and free. Tent area was slightly sloped so was uncomfortable for sleeping.
Site was perfect for the children that we had with us the rope swing and the adventure playground were perfect for them. All was lovely & quiet.

Stayed on the spur of the moment after possibly having the same problem as a previous reviewer with a Bodiam site.
Anyway, thought it was a lovely site, very friendly and helpful staff.

The facilities are basic, but spotless, and we never had to wait for one of the four showers. One in each toilet + two others that most people seem to miss, probably more of a problem if they were full though, but then again maybe not as most pitches were caravans, with only a few tents?

Battle has quite a few good places to eat (and drink in the case of "Cafe Belge"!), well worth the 5 min drive!

Overall we will definitely will be returning!

Visited this site just after the bank holiday weekend. Was quite keen to check it out having seen other reviews describe it as "back to basics". I would agree - it is a very large wooded area and has small, far-away toilet/shower facility (one shower per gender for 32 pitches!) The ground is quite bumpy and slightly sloping in some areas of the paddock (tent area). Still, a friendly welcome, a very well stocked shop and a decent pub just a few mins walk. Overall I did not think it was very good value for money - £14 for two in a small tent. Would not rush back.
