Well this was my first ever camping trip, new tent the lot and I couldn't have pick a better campsite.
From the moment I arrived I was made to feel so welcome, I had read previous reviews and was unsure of what to expect but I would like to say I feel that the other reviews are a little unfair and picky in places.
I was directed to my pitch and given all the information I required to find it with no problem at all I was also given the opportunity to change if I was at all unhappy,
In fact the staff bent over backwards to make our stay a good one, its a very relaxed atmosphere.
There is lovely woodland to explore and if you are brave and really enjoy the camping experience you can camp back to basics style out of the way of everyone, I am not that brave unfortunately.
The shower block was clean and has all you need and no coin operated showers which was great.
The play area was basic its true but it didn't affect my stay at all.
The bar was open I had a look and it looked really nice but we are not big drinkers, there is a pub just round the corner a ten minute walk and we had a lovely meal there.
The shop has a small amount of stock and the prices are OK, but the local village shop is great.
The staff that live on site and look after things were always around to help with any problem no matter how small and I saw them checking around regularly at night etc.
In short I will definitely return again and yes it is a little rough around the edges in places but it all added to the charm for me.

Just had a four night stay at this site, when we arrived we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff and were given clear instructions on how to find our pitch and found the map very useful.
Our pitch was a very good size and level the grass was very dry but this was expected as the weather has been so nice for this time of year.
The playground isn't the best I have seen but as long as you keep your children supervised its quite adequate mine preferred exploring the woods anyway.
We found the toilet block to be cleaned to a good standard, and the free hot showers are always a bonus especially when you have more than one child to get clean.
The site is basic but beautiful the bluebells were just starting to poke through.
In conclusion if you like camping in beautiful surroundings definitely give it a go, a happy and cared for site.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the site. When we booked and also when we arrived the site owners were very friendly and seemed very helpful.
A small map was provided which was quite adequate for finding our pitch. The pitch was a mix of dry grass ( not the fault of the site ) and road scrapings but was very level.
There were 6 seasonal vans in the area that we were in, which appeared to be able to hold 10, the owners of these seemed very friendly and didn't complain about my noisy children.
The toilet facilities have had some updating over the winter and are now fully tiled. It seems somewhat odd though that the old plastic hand basins that have seem better days have been left in and tiled around. The cleanliness seemed OK, but the weather was very good so no mud was being trodden in.
The children's play area is tucked out of site of the main camping areas and is not in the beast of condition, this was a bit difficult for us as our youngest is 5 and needs keeping an eye on !
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and can see that the site owners are starting to bring up to standard what was a quite run down site. I wish them the best of luck and we will be visiting again.

Myself, husband and 12 year old son came to Senlac in the wettest week of August. We had a VW camper van and awning and were situated in one of the centre pitches. The ground was broken flint - very bumpy and not very comfortable underfoot in the awning. These pitches housed 4 vans and were in a circle of lovely trees, however this was very dark with no sunshine!
A few minutes drive from Battle and not too far from Hastings.
We didn't use the bar as it was only open once in our 4 days there. Toilets and showers were ok but obviously a bit muddy in the bad weather.
I'm sure we would have had a much better time if it was dry.

We booked two weeks at this site having never visited before, which was on reflection a little rash. I think this is a 'marmite' site - you love it or hate it.
Our caravan was sited in a small hardstanding bay. We were given a very small map to find our plot. The overhanging trees seemed charming at first but then became gloomy and depressing. We would leave site every day and spend the whole day out. The grassy bays are perhaps a better option.
The shower block, electric hook ups and water points are all accessed via paths through the woods and shrubbery. The lighting of these was inadequate and some broken. These pathways also resulted in the shower block floor becoming muddy and wet. The cleaner - who lives on site - was tearing her hair out trying to keep on top of it. There is only one block but it never closes. There is currently work taking place on refurbishing this area and the wash up. The configuration of the block is bizarre with a set of three ladies toilets with one shower then a further room with basin and shower then a family room directly off this with toilet basin and shower. I assume there was similar in the mens area. The mens area had duck boards but the ladies did not so take a mat as the floors were bad. There was only one mop provided and it was minging I gave up rinsing it as no one else seemed to bother. The toilet bowls, seats, basins and shower trays were always clean, but not all other surfaces. The showers are electric and always working - there was always hot water. The rubbish bin vanished towards the end of our stay so a large pile of bags had accumulated.
There was no TV reception or satellite signal. There is a shop which we didn't really use but the kids got a pick n mix there. There is a bar which opens on request and was selling only canned beers when we were there. There is a barrier with code to enter and exit. The play area was tucked away out of site of adults and was not well maintained. My kids usually love to take off and play by themselves but did not take to this site at all. Others may feel its relaxed and easy going and people have permanent pitches - so as I say it obviously appeals to some.

An ideal site for those with children as there is a good playground and lots to explore in the woods. The facilities were basic but all there. Free showers and plenty of hot water for washing up. We didn't use the bar. This is a potentially nice site but it does need more careful management. We were directed to a pitch using a pretty basic diagram and we had to hunt around for a level area to pitch the tent. No one came to check up where we had pitched and there were no numbers or marked sites. Our first night was quiet but it got busier and more crowded on Saturday, resulting in a lot of noise in close proximity. There does not seem to be a noise policy or curfew which is a shame.

Stayed in the paddock where it was very quiet where you could hear and see some wild life. Toilet block was ok but does need a bit of work doing to it but was clean and new boiler was fitted while we were there.
Site shop did not have a lot to choose from however the local shops are not far away in Battle which is a lovely town. The staff were very friendly and relaxed, always willing to chat and help out with any problems. We only used the bar once where the prices were very reasonable.
The children aged 11 and 13 unfortunately did not have much to do only play football or pool in the bar. The play facilities are ideal for younger children as the playground is climbing frame etc. For caravans there is loads of space to set up in little coves through out the woods. There was no electric as such for tent pitches but they were willing and able to run a cable for us.
It is easy to be negative about the site but you have to look past it as it is a work in progress and in time will could be an outstanding site. One thing it could do with would be a swimming pool for when it is hot as it was for our stay.
We would go back to site again and recommend to friends for a getaway from it all break.

With a 16yr old and 2 dogs we have just spent a lovely peaceful quiet weekend at this campsite. It is one we would use again.
The toilet and shower block where heated, there was hot water for washing up. The site is under going development and there are signs apologising for this. There was a very good atmosphere on site.
It is back to basic camping which we really enjoyed and the location is fantastic for pubs and Battle for take aways. The staff where very friendly.
The setting is beautiful and it feels a small site so you don't feel overcrowded which we really liked.

Booked last minute and owners very helpful. The site is a bit jaded but with some investment it could be fantastic. The toilet / shower block is old and there was no hot water to do the washing up.
The setting is quite idyllic, apart from the giant tractor tyres, crabby old motorhomes and general lying rubbish. Some of the pitches are better than others, and if you are in a tent you wouldn't want to have to pitch where the land has been reclaimed from the woodland, as you may end up having to pitch on uneven road scalpings.
I think this site has the potential to be great, as the setting is lovely and there is beautiful peaceful countryside all around.

The Silk Route Motorcaravan Network held a very successful annual meeting here over a weekend. The site owners could not have been more helpful and gave us our own area for our 13 vans. They also offered us use of the very pleasant bar area for our meetings during the day although the weather was so fantastic that we had some of our sessions outside in the sun!
