Just spent two fabulous weeks at Wood Lake Campsite. Sheryl and Roy go out of their way to make you welcome and do everything they can to make your stay perfect.
Toilets and showers are kept clean and maintained regularly. Roy gets to know all the dogs individually (with sneaky treats for them), the lake and the woodland areas are simply beautiful and a gentle stroll around the site is uplifting and beautiful.
It's just over two miles away from the stunning Mappleton beach and almost 10 minutes away from Hornsea.
We didn't want to leave. The dogs were not happy to get in the car.
If you have not yet visited this idyllic campsite, put it on your list of 'to do's', you won't be disappointed. Pam and Phil August 2023

Second stay here and such an enjoyable stay. Lovely spacious location. Picturesque and peaceful.
Simple facilities but more than adequate with some very thoughtful touches by the owners.
Our only negative would be the amount of toilets/ showers. But that isn't going to reflect our score as everything else more than makes up for it.

A lovely warm welcome from Cheryl on arrival giving all information needed.
We stayed on pitch 10 which was perfect for us with our dog next to the exercise field which is kitted out with agility equipment.
The pitch was spacious with everything close to hand.
The site is very well maintained, a peaceful site with Cheryl on hand at all times and very willing to help with anything.
Well located to travel easily to other attractions nearby.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this site is one to return to.

Absolutely great site. Odins memorial play park a jewel in the Crown for our hound. Very friendly owner. All facilities you would need. Site well maintained level. Showers and kitchen area spotlessly clean. Great showers. Quiet site.
3 miles from dog walking beach at Mappleton with free parking. (Get there early it's popular). Not far from Hornsea. Not far from trans pennine walking/cycling trail.
Odins memorial park - free running enclosed area for the dog to roam safely. Nice walk around the lake (dog on a lead of course) lots of lake wildfowl and their young.
£27 per night - Great value for money.
Great site - is on my come back again list.

This is the second time we have stayed at wood lake campsite and will return again as excellent service everything is spotless amazing surroundings we were in our caravan.
Great place for those in tents as very well thought out facilities microwave toaster kettle and washing up area for them to use. Showers and loos spotless can not fault.
The dog area is great if your intending taking your four legged friend along and so much to do in surrounding area or you can just kick back and relax fantastic job to Sheryl Manager.

Beautiful site in a quiet country village location, owners are very welcoming, helpful and friendly.
Adults only site with great dog excercise facility which is ideal for us, with trans pennine trail walks nearby towards Hornsea.
Toilets, showers, kitchen provisions, local information all superb.
Slight downside is that the walks to the nearest town / villages for a pub may be a bit far for some people.
Otherwise though, plenty of places are a short driving distance or just to stay and relax on the site is fab.
We like to walk our two dog's legs off though so we've already re-booked to stay again and can't wait to return!

We recently stayed at Wood Lake Camp Site and Caravan Park in Great Hatfield near Hornsea. We found the site when looking through the pages of the internet, due to wanting Hornsea specifically because we have friends with a static caravan in Hornsea and that it is a lovely quiet holiday town and still very reasonable in high season.
Our next stipulation was Adults Only, only because we don't have any and teach children 6 days a week. We also needed a site that would accept our 3 Cocker Spaniels and offer an on site exercising area. 5* from our dogs for this section. A large grassed, fenced in area with picnic benches for us humans and a field of dreams especially designated for the dogs!
The communication with the site from the outset was excellent and that was also noticeable when we arrived and met Cheryl who was very polite, enthusiastic and professional.
We had the choice of a grass pitch or hardstanding and opted for the hardstanding as was is still the earlier part of the year and grassed areas can be a little soft. The pitch size was perfect for our Elddis Accordo 135 and that was with an awning and an air windbreak.
Next to us was a beautiful RV, so that tells you the size of the pitches. The pitches have been set with fast growing evergreen that will eventually make the site more private pitch to pitch, but open enough to enjoy the communal life of a campsite.
The surroundings on site are beautiful and being a nature lover and keen photographer, the large expanse of wooded area on site along with the beautiful pond provided many opportunities. Hornsea itself has many beautiful areas to visit and photograph too.
The toilets, showers and wash areas and rest area with Pool table are all under the cover of a big barn and it is like a central hub, all clean tidy and convenient. The showers by the way are very very clean and have a well controlled heat. NO cold showers here ;-) There was even an area with a mirror and Hairdryer and a fridge and toaster, how thoughtful.
The town centre of Hornsea has an official high street where there are many pubs and eateries, in fact we have another recommendation if you like Quirky bars! The Stackhouse Bar 8b Newbegin, Hornsea, HU18 1AG Tel: 01964 534407. (Another place was the Green Owl, a sort of restaurant, with good food and a licensed bar, comfortable to go for just a drink or to eat too!).
At night the landlord was happy for us to get a takeaway and guess what, there was one next door but one, which meant we could stay in the pub and have a few more drinks. The pub has many fine craft beers and guest beers!
So back to Wood Lake, a fantastic site and one we will definitely be returning to on many occasions, in fact we booked our next stay as we were leaving, we were that impressed. There is no gate shutting at 10pm by the way, we sometimes have experienced sites that want you back on site for say 9. 30-10. 00pm which can ruin a night out with friends. As long as we all respect each other and be as quiet as possible then everyone is happy.
Cheryl organised a dog Agility show whilst we were there and I noted from other pictures that she had done a fun day of competition for site members. Both her and Roy are totally dedicated to what they do. You will see Roy on his tractor, cutting the grass and maintaining the pitches etc. They live on site in their beautiful bungalow which overlooks the lake and tell you they are basically on hand 24/7.
If you look through my reviews on Trip Advisor you will see I am always honest and fair, even if there is a negative to report. I have to say that Wood Lake for my partner and I scores a 5*+ We will certainly be back with our Cockers!
Thank you so much! Cris and Kerry.

Absolutely Brilliant, Sheryl couldn't do enough for us.
The site was wet due to a lot of rain over the last week, we were offered a free cancellation or we were aloud to park up in the car park ( not really a car park). She told us she had rang her sister who has a caravan park and she had three pitches if we wanted one, but we were happy where we were.
Sheryl put on a dog agility show at the weekend and our puppy, Douglas, came second for wagilliest tail.
Great site.
