I agree that the entrance appears somewhat industrial, but it did not impact on our enjoyment of the site at all.
Pitching area is large, well mown and level. There are a lot more than the 45 pitches listed, but being divided into different areas with leylandii hedging, it feels much smaller. The hedging also provides good shelter. Some pitches near the road might suffer from traffic noise.
There is a wc only facility just inside the entrance. The main facilities are pretty central and therefore convenient. These facilities are a little aging but well maintained, although only two showers (free) each in both ladies and gents side is not enough for the morning rush. There is also a laundry (wash £2. 50) and washing up facility (hot water 20p).
Directly from the site you can launch canoes onto the River Waveney. You can bring your own or hire theirs. Cycle hire is also available on site.
Very dog / family friendly with pleasant walks or off road cycle rides on Outney Common right next to the site.
Just a small update to laineywells’ review of July 2010; this part of Suffolk is now in the 21st century with cash points everywhere and 24 hour supermarkets in Beccles.
But if you enjoy real ale and are looking for a unique riverside pub from a different era, go to the Locks Inn, Geldeston. If you do fancy the Locks Inn, use post code NR34 0HS (otherwise you will find yourself the other side of the river!) to Station Road Geldeston, then down an unmade track for approx 800m.
To sum up: We found Outney Meadow to be a very pleasant, quiet, and family friendly site with good canoeing opportunity.

I won’t go over old ground in relation to the location / entrance / site in general except to agree that it was well-maintained and the toilet/shower facilities are dated but clean. There was always hot water and loo paper.
Site owners were very helpful and friendly and always gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble. We took our kayaks and they ensured we were as close to the river as we wanted to be.
The pitch was flat with no surface stones/litter. The soil was rather stony which should be borne in mind if you only have standard soft steel pegs. The pitches were divided into areas which were sheltered by trees / hedging.
It’s a 5 minute walk into the village and if you need a supermarket there is a large Co-Op a 10 minute drive away. It’s a very good location for exploring Suffolk and Norfolk
We had a wonderfully relaxing time and will definitely go back!

Having read other reviews of the site we were a this apprehensive but as were wanted to explore this area booked. On arrival the comments about the approach were accurate, very untidy with old caravans lying around a caravan grave yard was a good description.
The welcome we received was very good and as we were meeting up with friends were shown our pitches, the site was well looked after, grass well kept, trees looking pruned some pitches border on the river.
The facilities were clean but were in need of updating and we felt the site was in need of more showers and toilets as the bank holiday weekend you had to wait but just copped when things were a little quieter.
You can hear noise from the main road but this didn't put us off. The is an excellent walking area just outside the site (outney meadow I think) which was great for our dog, there is also a small fishing lake there, bungay golf course is just up the road.
Overall the entrance to the site was bad, the site it self had a '70s feel to it, with the facilities that matched. A walk in to Bungay is well worth it, with decent shops and restaurants, the green dragon pub sells its own home brewed beers which were very good.
Overall a nice site but needs tiding up and the facilities need bringing up to date.

Same as the others on arrival and seeing the 'Caravan Graveyard' did wonder what was round the corner ! but what a lovely surprise, the owner cycled us to a lovely spot with adequate shade which proved to be essential as the weekend was a scorcher. We went with friends and the children in our party had just the best time ! The river kept them entertained. Seems to be some fab walks round the area and if we go back would like to explore some more
There is one thing that would make this site perfect and make it worth the slightly expensive fee, the toilets and showers are as my 13yr old expressed 'minging' . My 11yr old who is the original soap dodger actually came back dirtier after he had used them, even for him this is unusual ! I know this sounds fussy but we have camped and caravanned for years now and have paid less for the same environment but better loss etc so come on Outney knock them down and start again because we want to come back because everything else was brilliant !

What a lovely campsite, very traditional but with lots of added extras. This was our first time properly camping and it definitely gave us the bug. Outney Meadows was in a quiet, picturesque location but had plenty of room for all the campers. We were in the tent area and had room to park the car next to us and they provided picnic tables between each pitch. There was a big hedge between the tents and the river, however insect repellent would be advised if you plan on sitting out at dusk.
The facilities were clean, plenty of hot water and I didn't have to queue for a shower or toilet. Plugs were available for hairdryers, curling tongs, phone chargers or all the other gadgets some people seemed to think were part of a camping holiday!
The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, which was also gorgeous and with plenty of things to keep us busy. But be warned the area is a bit in the sticks so don't expect to always use your chip and pin card or find a supermarket open 24hrs!
Lowestoft seaside was very clean and pretty worth a visit, but beware of restrictions taking dogs onto the sand. Kessingland was a bit further south and not the most attractive area, however it had free parking and easy access to a dog friendly beach, and very clean public toilets.
Bungay was a lovely little town and definitely worth a look. The castle is very pretty and hosts a great Shakespeare festival, enter it through Jesters Tea rooms which serves a fabulous white hot chocolate with raspberry coulis and delicious cakes. There are great delis serving local cheese, olives and lots of fresh foods. We picked up a chinese on the first night from the chinese/fish & chip shop which was reasonable and tasty, but not the menu we were used to from a big city!
The campsite also had facilities to hire canoes and go jumping in the river which was brilliant for all the children. It made an extra level to the trip as it's not a common thing to do. We were also next to a big common with a lake where the dog was free to roam and golf course (but we didn't play).
I used the Outney Meadows website to book the pitches and they were very quick to email back with confirmation. This was a fab service and they were happy to accept cash when we arrived. The journey from lincoln was fairly easy, less than 3 hours and with plenty of places to stop off on the way. Our sat nav was able to get us directly to the site and I think it would be easy to find using traditional methods too as the area was clearly signposted.
Outney Meadows is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a relaxing break away from the rat race.

Couldn't agree more with previous reviews; the site is very pleasant and friendly as are all the staff/owners. As has been said the first impression as you arrive does have a bit of a scrap yard appearance even from the roundabout but once onto the field all that is behind you and does not detract one bit from a really peaceful relaxing site. The shower/toilet blocks are just about adequate but really do need a re-vamp to bring them to modern standards. As was said by previous reviewers The Fleece in Bungay is really good with good food at a reasonable price. The Castle is also very nice although more restaurant than pub and more expensive but the food quality is very good. Didn't think much to any of the other pubs in Bungay. The small theatre in the town is also worth a look and has some interesting shows on from time to time. There is also a golf club close by if you are a golfer.

When we drove into entrance, we thought we have made a big mistake here. Entrance was full of old caravans, looked like a scrap yard.
We were greeted by a man who told us to wait for Mary, to show us to our pitch. She asked did we want shade, we said yes, she showed us to a lovely pitch under some trees, with water tap.We had ducks coming to our van door. Rabbits were running around. The toilets and showers were spotless. We walked into Bungay, we are not walkers, but it was a lovely walk to the shop only took 8 mins from site. I must admit not many shops, but we got what we wanted.
My only gripe is 1 the entrance, 2 if the site was full there would not be enough toilets and showers there were 2 showers and 3 loos.
Site was spotless.
Would go back.

We have just spent a long weekend here with our car club's annual camping trip and have to say that the site met all our requirements. Yes the road is noisy, but it is the A143 and a main by-pass for Bungay, so really it can't avoid having the road noise. If you are in a tent, the noise might keep you awake, but being in a campervan once the door was closed, it was quiet. We were in the field right next to the road and it was therefore noisy but the other fields were much quieter.
There are two toilet blocks, one very old fashioned the other dated but had two showers and three toilets in the ladies. The showers seemed to run out of hot water in the morning but I had nice hot water when I had mine! Kept nice and clean. The fields are divided by hedges/conifers which we prefer. It wasn't that busy so perhaps the facilities would be stretched if there were more people staying on site.
Yes, the site is tatty when you first come into it with some old/scrapped caravans, but you don't have to sit and look at it.
Yes, there is noise from the factory but it wasn't that bad.
Bungay itself was lovely to walk round. We had a meal in the Fleece Inn on St Mary's Street and they did us proud. Served about 16 of us quickly and with nice hot food. There are some quaint little shops, a small supermarket, bakers, butchers so all the usual stuff and it is only about a 10 minute walk from the site. The River Waveney flows by the site (a good place for fishing), there is a large common to walk in, it isn't far from the coast, so all in all we thought it was very good. From Bridge Street you can walk along the river which was lovely.
The staff/owners of the site are very friendly and most helpful.
You can hire a canoe if you wish and take it on the river. It looked peaceful. Lots of wildlife around.
If we are back this way, we will stay here again.

We booked 3 nights to this sight before arrival. For a caravan, 2 adults, a dog, an awning and a car it was £19 a night. Admittedly the entrance is very much like an ole caravan grave yard but to be fair once inside the sight this poses no problem whatsoever. We were pitched in the river field which was ideal for us as we had our own inflatable canoe. The facilities are ok, pretty basic. The ladies block had 2 push button showers, (which lasted seconds which is somewhat annoying), there were 3 toilets in the block and 3 sinks, a 20p hairdryer. No radio piping through nor heating so wouldn't fancy it much in the cooler months.
There is a portaloo disposal and a waste bin area with blue and black bins.
There is 2 dishwashing sinks and 2 coin deposits 20p for hot water and 20p for spinner so not sure if that's hot water for dishwashing and the tumble dryer. The washing machine takes 2 x £1 and 1 x 50p. There is an ironing board and iron. Bar B Ques are allowed, the electric hook up is 10 amp.
We went for a nice pub lunch at The Fleece in Bungay and then went to the Co Op which is app 5 mins from site and has fuel too.
Overall the site was fine, take as you find but it depends what is more important to you. It was quiet so we slept well and that's important to us

Our first trip out with our new caravan and we didn't want to go far so went up to Bungay for the bank holiday weekend.
The site is nicely laid out; the facilities are clean and tidy. Being next to the River Waveney is the big selling point for the site and they hire canoes / boats out which is a very fun experience.
The staff are very helpful (especially to a man who had never reversed a caravan before) making the whole experience relaxing.
Not too far to Southwold which is another bonus. Bungay is walkable and has everything you could want.
