Lovely weekend at this site near Hay on Wye. Mostly statics and seasonal vans but they do have a touring area which is where we were pitched. Slight hold up when we arrived as reception wasn't manned and the phone number went to voicemail but quickly sorted. Nice flat hard standing pitch (they have a mixture of HS and grass) with its own water point. I think we had the best pitch on the field number 10 as we had excellent views. As the weather was lovely we were able to sit outside on the provided benches and totally chill out. Facilities are excellent and regularly cleaned, although other campers could help by mopping out the shower when they have finished instead of leaving it covered in grass but that's not the sites fault as they do provide mops for people to use. Had a lovely meal at the Three Tuns in Hay on Wye a little expensive but the food was delicious. Site owners were very helpful and provided us with a pack of information on arrival about the site and things to do/places to eat in the area - free WiFi as well which is always a bonus and as there was nobody coming on to our pitch the day we left they told us we didn't need to rush packing away. In summary this is a lovely site and we would definitely return if we go back to the area again.

This is a lovely site quiet site with a mixture of static homes and touring pitches. I brooked whilst cycle camping so only stayed for one night. The owners were away the night I arrived but were very friendly and helpful on the phone and left a welcome pack with all the information I needed. It was a real pleasure to stay there if only for one night. I have to say it rates at the top of the sites that I have stayed at, with a nice level pitch, water to hand, clean very pleasant toilet block and wifi! Everything that I wanted for my stay.

What a beautiful place ! We love the area and thought we'd try somewhere new and what a find ! We had a hard standing pitch with fantastic views. The toilet/ shower block were immaculate some of the best I've been in. The site was perfectly manicured and had a lovely new wooden play area. The warden was very friendly and helpful. Easy to walk to the pub although it has the old style opening times and was shut so we had a taxi into Hay on Wye. This is lovely site and we will deff return soon

We had a seasonal pitch this year and although we didn't get to use it as much as we would have liked (baby put stop to that) the times we were there have created fond memories for our family. Graham and Tracey were the best site managers I have ever come across. Their attention to detail is impeccable, the site was always beautiful. The herb and fruit garden is brilliant and the shower block is fantastic. Hay is a fantastic town, plenty to do in around the area and Clyro itself although a good walk down the hill has an extremely good pub serving goo food and great beer. The staff there were brilliant with my 3 month old and nothing was any trouble. If it wasn't for needing a bigger caravan we most certainly would have had another year on site.

Fantastic site, landscaping immaculately kept with different areas of interest like the orchard & herb garden, all the facilities you could wish for, showers/toilets spotlessly clean & loads of hot water at all times, we don't have children but there is a lovely play area for those who do, great dog walking area & wonderful views of the country side, very peaceful a great place to relax, can walk to Hay on Wye or local pub & shop just 10 minutes walk away, Graham & Tracy are the most friendly & helpful people we've met on any site nothing is too much trouble, will definitely be back and would highly recommend it

Having decided along with some friends to visit Hay on Wye so that the more adventurous of us could do a spot of canoeing on the Wye, we set about looking for a campsite nearby which could accommodate our touring caravan and 2 tents.
Not realising that our chosen weekend was August bank holiday weekend, our first choice site, without hesitation told us that there was no way they could fit us all in. So we contacted Borders Hideaway (what an apt name!) and from beginning to end, we were relieved that our 'first choice' site had turned us away as we would have missed out on this gem of a campsite. Hidden treasure! We couldn't fault anything about this site.
It is only a couple of miles out of Hay, which is such a beautiful town and heaven for lovers of bookshops and antique shops! Just down the hill in Clyro is a pub called the Baskerville Arms which we ate at on Sunday evening - good food reasonably priced and friendly and welcoming staff.
Back to the site. As soon as we enquired as to availability we were told they could fit all 3 units on adjacent pitches - perfect and even though both tents were family sized, they charged the one with just 2 people in it as a small tent instead.
The site Wardens, Tracy and Graham were friendly welcoming and helpful. The shower facilities were the best we have ever found - all 3 shower rooms in each of the ladies and gents had their own loo and washbasin in them as well as the shower. One of my bug bears with campsite showers is that very few of them have anywhere to put your toiletries off the floor in the shower. These had a lovely big rack on the wall to easily fit several bottles of lotions and potions in! Even though it was bank holiday weekend and was quite busy there were never any queues for the showers and they were spotlessly clean and tidy - as was the whole site.
The pitches were roomy and we had electic hook up for the van but for those who don't there's a little room in between the ladies and gents facilities where mobile phones/ipods etc can be charged up and a freezer for ice blocks. There's even a drying room on the site for drying wet walking gear - brilliant! In the centre of the tent/touring field was a good quality wooden children's play area.
The site was lovely and peaceful even though it was busy - especially in the evenings and first thing in the mornings. There was just the occasional vehicle which went up the lane behind our pitches but apart from that there was no traffic noise whatsoever. Just the sound of sheep and birds - bliss!
There was free Wi-Fi which worked brilliantly. Just 2 weeks before we'd had to pay £24 for a week's worth of Wi-Fi on a site in North Devon - we were had, it never worked anywhere near as well as the free Wi-Fi at bhhhp!
The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. On Sunday we walked from the campsite up the hill across the fields and then back down and along the river towards Hay. Panoramic views from the top and plenty of places to stop along the river to skim stones and let the dog have a swim!
On bank holiday Monday we wanted to stay on the site until the afternoon (even though the weather was awful, it was lovely even in the rain!) as we wanted to go into Hay for a few hours and get some lunch before driving home. No extra charge was made.
I think this site is probably the closest we will get to perfection and we will always be comparing others to this one!
Well done Tracy and Graham and thank you to the owners for making it such a well thought out beautiful site. We will definitely be back. I did joke to Tracy that I wouldn't put a glowing review on here as I wanted to keep it a secret, but that's not fair so I hope I have covered everything. There are loads of campsites in the Hay area but I really can't believe that any of the others quite match up to bhhhp.

Have just returned from this campsite and it is the fifth year we have camped here for the Hay festival. The facilities are great including really clean and modern shower rooms, washing up facilities and very friendly and helpful staff who manage the site. The whole site is beautifully done with a play area and small orchard and herb garden. It definitely spoils you for going anywhere else to camp and we will return.

This is a great campsite consisting mainly of mobile homes but with a campsite at the top - fabulous views and a small children's playground in the middle. The grounds are absolutely immaculate, with an orchard and herb garden where you can help yourself. The toilet block is super-clean, with washing-up facilities just outside. Although the site was pretty full, we never had to wait for any of the facilities. Somebody mentioned the road - there is a road that runs past the back of the site with intermittent cars which can be a bit noisy, but we didn't find it a problem.
The campsite managers are really friendly and very organised and helpful.
Some people have mentioned walking in to Hay. This is possible but - unless I've missed something - it's walking along a country road, and then on a pavement by a busy road, so not the nicest of walks (the campsite is half a mile outside Clyro).
I would highly recommend this site. I've never stayed somewhere with such friendly managers, and so beautifully kept.

A warm welcome awaits at the Borders Hideaway, the new look camping field with it's roadway and level pitches was a delight, and with stunning views and central playground it was all you could wish for.
You get given a very good welcome pack on arrival with lots of useful information.
The other facilities are also top notch, the washing/laundry room is excellent, it also has walking clothes drying room.

Very friendly and dedicated owner who was out on a hospital visit when we arrived but had left us a welcome pack and a letter at reception to direct us to our pitch. On her return took the time to come and see us to make sure everything was ok. An immaculately clean toilet block at all times with well looked after and colourful hanging baskets outside. Well laid out site with a great central playground which you can keep an eye on the kids from whatever tent pitch you are on.
