We made a last minute telephone booking only one day before travelling and spoke to Chris' who was extremely welcoming and friendly. Upon arrival and a warm welcome we completed the formalities easily and were shown to a pitch which suited us fine.
The 'Welcome Pack' included a list of Amenities at the site as well as useful Local Information and Places of Interest. We booked this site because it is close to Offa's Dyke National Trail which we are walking. It is also only a short drive to Hay on Wye.
It is a really well equipped site with a slightly sloping touring field. The new toilet block is actually sited at the edge of the touring field and so is close and easily accessible. The heated toilet block is superb and extremely well maintained and serviced with bags of hot water and two dish-washing sinks under the veranda. It is arranged as a series of 'bathrooms' with each enclosed bathroom consisting of a shower, toilet and wash-basin. There are extensive views, particularly from the top end of the touring field, but it can be a little breezy up there.
The whole site has been carefully laid out and landscaped. There are static mobile homes sited here but they are positioned carefully in the landscape and do not dominate the site.
Take time to seek out the newly planted Orchard area with many varieties of Fruit (and Nut) trees as well as a stone circle. No doubt all these features contributed to their 5 star status and recognition by the David Bellamy Awards Scheme.
All in all a great site and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. We paid £20.00 per night which included: two adults, a medium sized tent, and two cars (the extra car cost £2.00).
Ps. Not a niggle - but some handwash liquid soap in the toilets would be great. May find ourselves doing Offa's Dyke North to South as well - just to visit this site again!

We visited this site last year and was very impressed. After going back again this last weekend we cannot believe the improvements that have been made.
The new shower block is now installed, this has to be one of the best facilities we have ever used. They are absolutely spotless, the washing up facility is superb, plenty of hot water and loads of space for pots and pans. The area around the shower block has been planted beautifully. We were told by chris and derek that the area has only just been completed but to be honest it looks like it has been there for years.
The site was extremely clean and tidy and chris and derek were always around. We were asked regularly if we needed anything or if we needed any info on the surrounding area. The information board is great and we used some of the leaflets to visit the local attractions.
All in all one of the best kept and friendliest sites we have ever been too, and would recommend everyone visit this site. Five stars!

Stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely big field for lads to play football in. Staff very helpful and polite, nothing too much trouble for them. Toilet/ shower block excellent, very clean and new and cleaned every morning. Handy for visiting Royal Welsh show, only 20 minutes drive and for visiting Hay on Wye for an evening meal. Would highly recommend.

What a fantastic campsite. We spent the weekend there and were greeted by the very friendly owners of the site. Immaculately clean washrooms and showers and an overall great site. Family and dog friendly - don't stay anywhere else. We will be back next year. Excellent all round.

Dont be put off by the static caravans
We have just come back from a one night stay at this lovely campsite. It was not our first choice of place to stay as we don't usually like going to campsites with statics. However, this little gem of site couldn't be nicer.
We were greeted by a very friendly lady we made us feel very welcome, we were allocated a pitch in the camping field (we were offered hardstanding too) but were told we could choose where we wanted to pitch. Even though the field is on a slope most pitches are actually fairly level as they are all located around the edge of the field. Within a few minutes a gentleman arrived to check we were happy with our pitch.
We had a lovely flat pitch with views over looking a field full of sheep and backed by mature trees (including a beautiful and very old oak). There are also amazing views of the surrounding area.
The toilets and showers were the best I have seen at a campsite, so clean and maintained very well. The dishwashing facilities were also excellent, covered and with very warm water.
The site was very peaceful and I can't imagine it feeling cramped even if full.
I would highly recommend this site and can't wait to go back!

We had a very nice bank holiday weekend here. We had booked two pitches, one for us (two adults’ two kids) in a trailer tent and one next door for my mum and dad in a caravan.
We were supposed to go for Aug bank holiday in 2009 but had to cancel the day before due to a family emergency. I was expecting to lose our fees but I was very surprised to be told they would let us come sometime in the next 12 months at no extra cost! Fantastic people, these guys get 12 out of 10 for customer service.
The site has several mobile homes and a long term caravan field as well as a touring field. The site is all laid out very well and the touring field is large, with pitches around the outside edge, leaving plenty of room for kids to run around. The field is on a slope but that is the only negative point. But the slope does not effect all the pitches, don't be put off by it, we have stayed at sites with much steeper slopes.
This is a really good site made into an excellent site by two things. The fantastic wardens and the amazing WC & shower facilities.
Locally Hay on Wye is great if you like books and we hired a boat at Beacon from a place next to the marina and had a really nice couple of hours on the canal.

A lovely welcome and very flexible with our group tent arrangement - we didn't have to stick to the actual pitch and were able to arrange our 3 tents in a triangle formation with gazebo in the middle. Very relaxed and not overly strict, as a result our stay was lovely and I would use again. Beautiful scenery all around and Hay was only 5 mins away by car.
Toilet facilities were more than adequate and clearly well looked after. Chris was there much of time making sure it was kept clean all of the time and this was very much appreciated. Hot water always available!
Overall the site was kept clean and well tended.
On the downside, the site is situated in the hills so the pitch was sloping and a little challenging but we coped and this didn't detract from what was a lovely stay.

I can thoroughly recommend this site. From the moment we arrived Chis and Derek made us feel at home. The location is perfect with great views and very peaceful.
The whole site is very well looked after, (made our garden look untidy!). The new amenity block is one of the best I have seen. Very handy for the book festival in Hay, but you would have to book well in advance for that I would guess.
If you must stay inside and watch TV you would be better off with satellite at the moment, but I suspect the terrestrial digital signal will be improved when analogue is turned off in the near future. All in all great site.

Lovely clean site.We were made very welcome and were given advice about places to visit in the surrounding area. Showers are in need of upgrading as has been mentioned in previous reviews but I never had to queue for a shower & they were always clean. Set in beautiful countryside. The site is well maintained.
Hay-on-Wye is nearby (we cycled into Hay but the area is quite hilly!) Hay is lovely with its famous bookshops and the river Wye running alongside the town. Canoes are available to hire and we spent an enjoyable afternoon canoeing.
I tend not to return to sites as I enjoy visiting new areas but I would certainly recommend the site.

Got to say this one of the nicer camp sites I've been to for a while, quiet and friendly. Just wanted to get away for a few days and take in Hay Festival. Facilities at the site are very good, from a camping point of view, good pitches, not too many stones for tent pegs! Electric hookup and supply blocks for holding your disposable BBQ's. Upgraded toilet / wash facilities are planned, as this is the only criticism overall. Would definitely use this again.
