We stayed here for a long weekend with our 5 year old son. On first impressions as you approach the area it is very run down which is a frequent comment. The beach is nice as it was windy when we were here we went for walks along the cliff wall which was nice.

Reception

We arrived late evening but staff in reception were polite and helpful

Site

The pitches are not clearly marked so some confusion in setting out. The pitches are quite uneven not a problem with the motorhome We had an electric hook up pitch. An advantage is tents caravans and motorhomes are together. I think this site is geared up more for the statics than tourers.

Showers / Toilets

There is only one block so in very busy periods you would need to wait for shower.

The showers were kept clean. We had the security code but never needed to use it. The water could be very hot depending which shower you used so need to be careful with younger children. There is no place to leave your clothes or for children to sit while dressing or undressing so bear this in mind also no family toilet / shower area. Toilets tended to run out of toilet paper possibly due to the fact it was been used by campers to dry their hands.

Facilities.

We used the indoor swimming pool as it was too cold to use the outside one. There are loungers on a grassy area around the outdoor pool. Inside pool is small so there is an allocation system and a set programme ie. 9. 00 - 10. 00 adult only, you also need to book well in advance. There are 3 changing cubicles in total so changing after swimming involves a wait. Lifeguard on duty at all times.

There is an area between the pitches for playing games and a separate play area with swings slides climbing frame which was nice.

We took our son to the kids entertainment which was good the crew work very hard. This finishes by 9pm and then it is adults only.

Restaurant is average restaurant prices would be expensive if you used it everyday. We had the breakfast which was fine.

Our biggest issues were at night groups of teenagers not campers congregated on the site and were noisy till late. Also the police spent 2 hours touring the site on our first day unsure why this was. We did not feel happy about letting our son play without constant supervision on the site not something I worry about on other sites.

There are a lot of amusement type machines which are useful for a rainy day but you have to pass by them to get to the restaurant, swimming pool or evening entertainment.

If I wanted to go for a themed weekend this would be a good site but would not personally return with my family

This was our second visit to this site. What I would say firstly is that it is a lively resort type of site. If you are looking to get back to nature and listen to the birds this site is not for you.

First impressions of the surrounding area are not good but don't worry it just looks a bit run down. The site is fine. The site is on the beach which we found to really good. Its a little pebbly at high tide but when the tide has gone out a little the sand in the sea is soft and the breakwaters make for a pleasant sea bathing experience. My advice is don't use the bay outside the site but move to the next one to the left. Larger and quieter and more sand.

Reception was fine and pleasant. Staff very helpful. As people have said before the pitches are a little disorganised and you are sometimes not sure where to pitch. We were on the electric field which on arrival was very busy but we did find a pitch.

The shop on site is well stocked and the sort of prices you would expect from your corner shop. There is a large Tescos whe use which is only a short drive away in Clacton, very handy infact.

The bar and restaurant are ok. Food is pricey and drinks are what you would expect in a resort.

Food was good quality and service ok just expensive to eat regularly.

We didn't use the pools this time but they are kept clean but can get busy as they are only small. Entertainment is good for the little ones with the club but as we were a party of 6 adults we only used the evening etertainment. This was also ok. What you would expect from this type of resort.

Our main gripe on our previous visit was the toilet and shower block which to be fair they have made a big effort to upgrade. This is where our review takes 2 different paths. As a party of 3 men and 3 women we experienced different views on the showers/toilets. The men felt they were ok but could get very busy. Also a cleaner is on hand all during the day they can get a little overrun it seemed. The ladies on the other hand found major concerns with the cleanliness of their facilities. Personally I felt a little sympathy for the cleaners for were it not for the disgusting habits of some of the female campers the cleaners efforts would have seemed much better. Also the site was during our visit full to capacity.

As I have said this is a lively resort with people talking drinking and playing music though not too loudly into the night after some younger children may be in bed. So be warned. But if you want to meet other people and have a drink on a warm summer evening its fine.

All in all then a good site with great access to the beach and the sea. Close to Clacton and the Peir. Good facilities and nearby shops. We also ordered a Chinese Take-away from a local delivery service which was good. Only let down by the cleanliness of the ladies toilets and showers but as previously mentioned most of the blame lies with some of the unhygienic campers.

This wasn't the first time my family have stayed at a park resort and so we had no worries the site would be good. Upon arrival the area of Jaywick looks a bit run down with rubbish on the beach not a problem as the campsite provides everything and its only a short drive to clacton on sea. First impressions of the site was good,we booked in and were told we could pitch anywhere which was great, but it caused confusion as nobody seemed to know where to pitch and the pitches were uneven and grass was left to grow, didn't see it being cut the whole week we were there, the route to the touring field had big dips which is not good for caravans and trailers.

The toilet block was modern but was not kept clean, you are given codes for the door supposedly for security but the ladies was not on during the stay and the gents only occasionally. There was rubbish left all over the touring field by disrespectful campers this wasn't cleared up by staff. There was an outdoor and indoor pool which were both very good but the lifeguards were unhelpful. The site was noisy at night

Was very nervous after reading some of the older reviews of this site on the www. Encouraged by some of the newer ones and decided to give it a go.

The site is not terrible like some older reviews say.

Area:

Beach - could be lovely, its a gorgeous little cove, with others a few minutes walk away. Unfortunately they are all strewn with litter and broken glass. A little effort would turn this around.

Jaywick - as others have said, it is a little run down. We saw no trouble and people in the local shops were friendly and helpful, with very reasonable prices.

Takeaway - the chippy / chinese takeaway just outside the site was surprisingly good. Very friendly. Very cheap - cost of chips is half of what I am used to.

Site:

Toilets and showers:

Toilets clean. The door to to gents slams VERY hard - dangerous for little fingers. Slams very loud too - I asked reception to have this looked at but nothing happened.

Showers look new and are fairly clean but they do not drain well meaning you are standing in water from the cubicles either side and the whole cubicle floor is soaked. Nowhere to put dry clothes.

There is a cleaner constantly there trying to keep on top of it all.

You are given a code to get in to the shower and toilets. Sometimes you need the code and sometimes you don't so best to have it with you.

Washing up facilities:

Only two sinks. No plug. Hot water very weak supply.

Dirty - people leave food left overs all over the place.

Often a queue (not that I ever queued - just leave until later.).

Inadequate when the site is busy.

Site:

Well laid out. Some pitches flatter than others but no problems finding a nice one. Can camp where you want.

With only one toilet block the far end of the tourer field is a long walk.

Well maintained.

One night was very very noisy with a man shouting and f-ing and blinding about something, and other general party noises.

Another night when the field was very busy sounded like a school playground.

Rest of time was quiet.

You expect noise when you camp - and we did contribute to some of the noise so no complaints.

Some others were complaining that travellers were on site and were asking staff to move them. Not sure what the outcome was.

We had no problems with other campers except that there are no rules about ball games. Kids playing football etc all over the place. Balls kicked into tent a few times - really annoying - would be much better if ball games were confined to a games field.

Playground - popular. Floor a little uneven.

Restaurant - Good menu. Food a mixed bag - some nice some not very nice at all.

Bar prices fine.

Entertainment venue - didn't use at all.

Amusements - standard collection of money eating coin machines.

Security - Visible security presence - though I was not asked for my pass once when going in and out of the entertainment complex day or night.

Would have preferred to see more security at the park entrance stopping unauthorised vehicles etc.

Shop - prices were ok. Ok for sweets, toys, snacks, inflatables. Not stocked well enough to buy food for meals etc.

Pool - Big enough. Very very cold though. Showers did not work at all. Lifeguards inconsistent - one allowed the kids to do almost anything whilst maintaining common sense safety - the other was much stricter with the rules. Not saying one is right and one is wrong - but it did confuse the kids.

Staff - generally friendly and helpful.

Superb site, great for all ! This was our 2nd visit and have booked again ! Going in a few weeks with 7 other families. Step out of site direct access to sandy beach. Helpful staff, good standard throughout. Possibly could benefit with more showers but hey they are warm & kept clean. Fish & chips near & only 12 mins to huge Tesco's. Lovely indoor & outdoor pool (we used both). Didn't use entertainment so can't comment on that. Well stocked shop at reasonable prices.

I have never been camping before but loved this site. The toilets and showers were really clean, toilet roll always provided which I was surprised about! The cleaners were always around to keep an eye on the site. Has a good shop on site, a bit dear but was fine. A great friendly site so would definitely recommend. Right on the beach, pool was small but if you go in the afternoon then its not too packed. I would definitely go there again.

My partner and I stayed 2 nights over a weekend, and will not be returning to this campsite.

Positives:

The campsite allowed you to camp anywhere on the field, so you can pick your pitch and group together if you travel with friends. Shop was well stocked and reasonably priced, has a playground, pool, cafe and entertainment, so some good facilities. It is very dog friendly! Showers/toilets were clean, and very close to the beach. 95% of people were lovely!

Negatives:

Both night we were kept up past midnight because of loud music, and both nights we were woken up in the small hours when campers had loud arguments/fights and were screaming, swearing and shouting round the tents. To the credit of the security this was eventually sorted out. If I had children, I would have left after the first night, due to the foul language of fellow campers and lack of sleep! The beach was covered in rubbish and unfortunately glass! The surrounding area is a bit *rough*, the local takeaways were pretty poor, and there were drunk teenagers on the beach of an evening.

To be fair, I think we are more suited to a quieter campsite, but the surrounding area isn't a problem for a family as the site has so much to offer activities wise (if you don't mind lack of sleep and the occasional swear word.)

As with all 'Park Resorts' holiday parks, Martello Beach lived up to our expectations. The park itself was spotlessly clean as were the the toilet and shower blocks. The shop is well stocked selling anything you need for a few days camping. The staff are all very friendly and make you feel welcome when drinking in the bars at night. We had superb weather and the beach is only two minutes away from the touring field. If interested, the naturist beach is a further 20 minute walk. The pitches are grassy and flat and quite easy to peg into. Clacton is a nice town and for the sake of 2 pounds, the aquarium on the pier is worth a visit. We had a great weeks holiday and we will return another year.

Both good and bad.I chose this site because it's close to home for a quick cheap weekend with the kids and Jaywick beach is great. The site itself is pretty easy going, there's none of the extra for this, extra for that policy a lot of sites seem to operate, the pitches are large and flat, and barbecues allowed. There was a bit of broken glass about however but given the size of the place you can't expect them to spot it all. Evening entertainment wasn't bad, and the cafe was ok too, even though the system is a bit weird.Order at the bar like in a wetherspoons or similar, but no table numbers so you need to describe where you're sitting which may be in another room or outside so you need to be able to spot what breakfast you think may be yours. Silly, and simple table numbers would make it all so much easier.

The site does however have woefully inadequate touring facilities- abysmal in fact and I've seen better on tiny French municipal sites. One toilet block- now I can't speak about the ladies side but on the mens side that consisted of two urinals, six stalls, and three sinks. You need to take your own paper because there wasn't any and half the locks were broken off. There are two washing up sinks, the taps on one of them wouldn't latch on and there was no plug, absolutely hopeless. They really need to build another touring block and quickly- because people with children do not want to be treated to the site of men peeing in the bushes which was happening on a regular basis, morning, noon, and night.

Stayed 1 night, monday, camping July 5th.

Well pleased with site, toilets and showers were very clean, staff are very friendly and helpful

They even had vegetarian options on their menu, and even put themselves out to check ingred as we don't eat eggs either. Food was clean and fresh.

Would def stay again.

Pools looked very clean, indoor and out, Beach is a stroll, swings also for children, all in all a good site.

I've heard weekends can get busy, and toilets and showers can get a bit messy, but we had no problems at all. Places we saw, Monday, drove to Frinton on sea, great beach,.

Had an indian meal in evening at Clacton.

Tues, back to Clacton on sea, went to market, walked along pier, then had a meal before we head for home.
