Hubby and I and 2 girls (4 and 7) just had a week here in a static (but will be camping in 2007, honest). Don't let the drive in to the site put you off too much - it only looks like Beirut. Very similar to Haven but on a smaller scale however they have recently renovated the entertainment complex. Usual amusement arcade, bar and cafe (basic food like burgers etc) and pricey shop for the basics. Unlike Haven the bar prices were pretty good. Evening entertainment was good and they put a lot of effort into keeping the kids amused. My only gripe was the state of the toilets in the entertainment centre which were frequently disgusting. Outdoor pool is looking a bit shabby but was heated and actually warmer in the water than out (it was August). No indoor pool until 2007 but they gave us a free voucher to use the indoor pool in Clacton. The beach adjacent is sandy but littered so walk out a bit for cleaner parts. Clacton is, well, Clacton so we drove to Southend to give the kids a day at Adventure Island and took in Allweathers Camping in Billericay to look at their tent display (worth the small detour). We met some folk who were camping on the site and they were pretty happy with everything. We will certainly consider camping there in 2007 for the entertainment for the kids.

We stayed here on the last bank holiday in may. This was our first camping experience. The weather had been very bad and the standard tent field we were in was extremely boggy! we had trouble finding a spot to pitch on. Everytime we wanted to go out we had to trek across the wet and muddy field. The facilities were okay. As was said before there were only 2 washing up sinks. The first morning the ladies showers were blocked so the floor was covered in 1 - 2 inches of water but this had been fixed the following day. The evening we arrived another family arrived and pitched beside us at 1am and were rather loud. Having said that our 4 children enjoyed the experience. We had a nice day out at Clacton beach which was a short drive away. I don't think we'll be going back although we might have had a different experience if the weather was better.

We visited this site for three nights over the weekend. The pitch was level but, the site was overcrowded and with no one showing you to your pitch, it was hard to find a space for our kyham. People had just parked any where. The toilets and showers were filthy. Although the cleaners tried their best, there were far to few facilities for the amount of people on the camp. We only saw toilet roll once in the toilets. The washing up sinks (all two of them) had no plugs and again were dirty. One was outside the girls toilet, the other outside the men's. Having said all this the club house was good and people around us seemed to be having fun (some at three in the morning). I would not visit this site again, I guess I have been lucky in the past going to campsites where the standard of cleanliness was excellent.

Had three midweek nights here early June 2006, weather could have been better but didn't ruin the break. The weather had been wet and windy and this had taken it's toll on the touring field, many of the EHU pitches were mud baths. The standard tent field was OK but offered no shelter from the weather. Facilities were reasonable, camp shop and restaurant/takeaway closed at 18:00 and the local facilities were not walkable distance. Club house and entertainment were very good, family entertainment team worked hard at keeping the kids and adults entertained every evening. Only one toilet/shower block with only two sinks to wash up for the entire site, a security combination was required to enter the toilet/showers, (this was very frustrating half way through the night when you couldn't remember the combination).

After being told by a man with a caravan on the road that the site was like a swamp, we didn't really know what to expect but I'm happy to say that once inside we were directed by a warden to an area which wasn't waterlogged. The Shower and Toilet block really needs a makeover because most of the toilet doors in the Gents didn't have locks on them. The showers were of the push button variety and as soon as you let go of the button the water stopped, I'm told this was the same in the ladies showers. However the toilet blocks were cleaned at regular intervals. The standpipe which is used to fill your water containers has a small square end which is impossible to get your filler hose on to and the tap is also push button and the water shuts off as soon as you let go. The electric hook up points are small posts in the ground and could be easily run over or tripped over in the dark. The site has two bars and a takeaway which are clean and tidy and are not overpriced. The entertainment in the Show bar is first class, although there is not much 'in house' entertainment as there are only 3 entertainment staff but the kids entertainment is very good and the guest entertainers are also very good. There is a fenced in children's play area and a fenced in Volleyball area, there is also an outdoor swimming pool (soon to be covered). The shop has a reasonable selection of items at competitive prices. Around the local area you have Clacton which is a short drive away and St Osyths which you can walk along the seafront to. Overall the site is OK for a weekend but as I have mentioned there is room for improvement and it looks like some money has been spent on the entertainment complex so lets hope that they spend some money around other area's of the site.
