Had a short break on this site reading some of the other reviews was a bit concerned. The area you have to go through to get to the site looks a bit run down and we were nearly hit by a young lad in a beat up old escort. However when we got to the site we were pleasantly surprised, booked in at reception very friendly, given information pack and club passes. Pitched where we wanted, more than enough room, found a nice spot in a corner at the top and of the field. Found all the staff to be very friendly always willing to help on site security very good as well.
Toilet blocks and showers kept very clean cleaners do a very good job under demanding circumstances just wish some of the other people on site would treat them with a bit of respect you know who you are. Food in the on site cafe a bit dodgy at times. Club entertainers very good with kids and grown up kids like us.
All in all a really excellent site definitely be going back again. Please don't take to much notice of the people who run this place down martello beach has really got its act together give it a try see for yourself

We were looking for a site to stay in the Clacton area for a couple of nights, this site seemed to meet our requirements.
On route to the site we thought to ourselves 'whatever have we done!' as we drove through a very run down jaywick we were greeted by a boy racer coming towards us at great speed then turning right in front of our nose with wheels screeching and a lovely hand gesture which I will leave to your imagination, not a great start!
Anyway upon arrival at the site things looked better, we reported to reception were staff were not that friendly but gave us the code for the toilet / shower blocks, we were told we could use any pitch, so choose a level site within walking distance of the toilet / shower block.
Electric hook up points were well laid out and easy to get too, the toilet facilities were very good, in fact the best we have seen so far, they even smelt nice!
We were pleased overall with our two nights stay here, and have no reason to complain, if you are unfamiliar with Jaywick however you should be aware that this is a very run down and unattractive area, however the site luckily compensated for this, we wouldn't return because of the area this site is in, which to be honest really wasn't our cup of tea!

We stayed for a weekend. Friday and Saturday nights, with 2 children.
Jaywick itself is a dump.
Were told to pitch tent where ever we wanted in the camp field.
Shower and toilet block was very clean with a person on duty all day and into the evening.
The pool was very cold and not that big so only popped in quickly. Cold showers too!
Evening entertainment, classic sticky carpets type club, pub. Kids enjoyed the dancing.
Staff, very friendly and helpful.
Got 2 hours sleep on the first night, due to very drunk people.
2nd night, what with the hen party and the all night party that went on the other end of the field, as well as the usual drunks, its safe to say, we will never be back.

We visited this site for one night. We were in a tent and value for money was excellent. The facilities of the site were good, nice children's park, clean toilets, lovely swimming pool (only small), very helpful staff. Restaurant was okay, food not great but as expected, breakfasts were best for us. Restaurant a little on the expensive side though. All in all though a good campsite and an enjoyable visit.

I have just returned from a three night stay at Martello Beach. I was a bit concerned about going after reading the reviews on here but as it only cost me £17 in Tesco vouchers so I thought I'd give it a go.
The campsite itself is very nice. Friendly, helpful staff, everywhere was clean and it looked like it had all had a bit of a revamp. We were told to pitch anywhere we wanted as long as it was 6m from anyone else.
The toilet and shower block has been renewed and is having a few teething problems, which I must say are not helped by those who have no respect for the facilities and leave it totally disgusting for others. There was a lady who worked there all day to keep the facilities clean and to unblock the toilets by hand - she deserves a medal for the hard work she put in to make the toilets and showers nice for everyone. I had no problems with the showers apart from only having one hook and nowhere to put anything. It would be nice to have a couple of sinks with a bit of privacy.
There are only 2 sinks to wash up and this can cause a bit of a queue.
I hated the fact that you have to go through the very dark amusement arcade to get to the pool or club. I wear reaction glasses and almost went flying over a chair as I walked in.
We only used the swimming pool once and we was amazed at how small it is - the picture shown on here is not the pool at Martello Beach. You have to pre book to use it for a limited amount of time - I am not one for planning out my day in advance when on holiday so only got one opportunity to use it. The indoor pool was lovely and warm, the outdoor pool was like ice. Unfortunately the showers at the pool where not working when I was there so I had to get dressed and go over to the shower block which was a bit inconvenient.
My two boys aged 7 and 8 enjoyed the Archery (£5 each) and the Water Walking (£3 each) and spent a lot of time in the very nice play area and football pitch.
The shop is well stocked, not too pricey and the staff very friendly.
The evening entertainment seemed to be enjoyed by the children, I didn't stay for the adult entertainment so can not comment. A large diet coke was £1.55 which I didn't think was too bad. The Club did seem a bit small for the size of the park with many people standing around waiting for tables.
The best bit about this stay was the beach - just a stones throw from the park and really nice and clean - we spent the whole day there with my eldest crabbing and my youngest exploring - they loved it.
A big problem for me was there was no noise curfew on the site. My first night I finally got to sleep at 2.30 after the group of campers nearby had spent the night making cockerel noises, singing and playing loud music. And the language and attitude of the children staying on the site was a real eye opener.

We have just returned from 4 nights at this site myself, my other half and 2 girls aged 11 and 4.
First the good points:
Staff were friendly and helpful, camp was clean and tidy and bins were emptied regularly. Swimming pool was clean and well supervised by lifeguards.
Pitches were large and flat and we had could chooses where we wanted to pitch, playground was great my girls loved it there, it's locked of a night so no glass or rubbish and groups of bored teenagers can hang around in their after dark. Watersport activities were good once the pool shut at 5pm (had to prebook).
Now the bad points: In the ladies there were 5 toilets (of which at one time there was only 1 working) for the whole of the site. Most were blocked everyday they never had any paper in them and the floor was always dirty, when these are cleaned they jet wash them so every where was soaked. There was 4 ladies showers of which only 3 worked, they again were dirty, locks on the doors didn't work, no where to put dry clothes, no sinks for private washing/dressing For both the toilets and showers there was always a queue. My other half didn't have these problems in the men toilets though
There were 2 sinks for washing up and again we normally had to queue.
The evening started with bingo and the kids shows started at 7.45pm we arrived at the club just after 7pm and had the last table, many people came in and left as there was no where to sit and drinks were very expensive. There was lots of groups of campers at this site, behind us was a group of mums with kids who were very loud with music playing and all sitting outside drinking till 2am. Security came round once and told them to turn the music down, which they then turned back up again.
If you go out late and walk back you will have to remember to take a torch as the lighting doesn't work.

Was a bit dubious about using this site as had visited a couple of years back and refused to stay as it was very over run with out of control teenagers and run down.BUT
What a pleasant surprise! The site was very clean, toilets and showers beautifully kept and the staff were absolutely wonderful. As it was my boyfriends first time ever camping, it was make or break, and he loved it.
Shop was well stocked, average priced but was surprisingly closed Bank holiday Monday! Not far to town though to stock up.
Plenty of room for kids to play, even had security patrolling to far end of site which was very reassuring.
All in All, glad I gave it another chance, Reasonably priced, entertainment ok, though function room a bit small for the size of the site, I can foresee problems getting a table in peak season.
Would we go back. Yes without a second thought.

This is the second time I have visited this site. It's very near to London for a couple of nights away. The site is clean & staff are helpful. The toilets & showers were clean. There is a washing up area which was clean. The swimming pool, though small, is well kept and lovely and clean.
The pitch was flat. Entertainment in the evening was good, children's entertainment from around 7.45pm then cabaret after 9pm. All included in your booking fee. The first time I wrote about Martello beach, I was unhappy with the control of dogs on there. They have really sorted this out. There were no out of control dogs about this time. An on site shop is available during the day. There is a large play area for children.
It's a bit noisy at night as there is an entertainment centre with disco etc on site. But nothing too traumatic.
We got a half price deal and only paid £10.00 per night which was excellent.
The only bad thing about this site is where it's located. If you don't go off site, this shouldn't bother you too much. Jaywick is a little run down but money is being spent to regenerate it. The Martello tower just along the beach is free entry and worth a quick visit. The beach is 2 minutes from the entrance.
Park Resorts, who own this site, are fairly cheap to camp with but be warned; the drinks from the bar are obviously where they make their money. A large glass of wine is £4.30! Beers are over £3.50 a pint.

The site is easy to find and the pitches are fairly level. Most of the site is Static Mobile Homes. I found the site catered mainly for children, indoor and outdoor pools, entertainment room and a good play area.
Besides a short section of Bingo the bar seemed to be the only area catering for adults.
The toilet/shower block was just ok nothing great. I found the staff both friendly and helpful. The Restaurant was rather a disappointment I used it twice, fish and chips (just passable)and a roast dinner the meat (turkey) was reasonable but the rest was rubbish, roast potatoes (deep fried) vegetables (tasteless) yorkshires (reheated frozen) gravy (no flavour). Given that they have nearly a monopoly it's such a wasted opportunity, with a little more effort they could really create a name for themselves.
Unfortunately Jaywick is rather derelict, built in the forties/fifties and not much done since. For a young family this could be a nice holiday but its not for adults

Stayed over Easter. Due to the rain we'd had it was very muddy in places but so would be most places. Staff helpful and for those who got stuck a tractor was on hand to help out. Some dodgy electrics for 2 nights as had just redone them - all fixed though and a refund on the electric price automatically given together with a free breakfast.
Not the best site have been to but location is good.
Toilets new this year and clean though probably inadequate if site was full.
Overall though didn't seem as bad as some of the reports have suggested.
