This site is a good base for visiting Hexham and Hadrian's Wall.
Warden was friendly and helpful. Facilities were fine, though a little dated and unkempt, as was much of the site.
Overall, a pleasant site.

Just returned from another weekend visit to Fallowfield Dene. This is local to us only taking about 30 minutes from home so easily managed on a Friday night after work.
This is now our favourite site as once we arrive our 10 year old son disappears into the woodland and immediately mixes with the other children whether visitors or seasonals.
The site is situated at the end of a quiet country lane with no through traffic and is therefore completely safe for children to roam freely without supervision. The grounds and toilets are always in immaculate condition with loads of warm showers, sinks and pot washing facilities.
There are lots of seasonal pitches here but 2 central areas close to the toilet blocks are reserved for a mixture of tents, caravans and motorhomes all with ehu's
The roads immediately surrounding the site are very quiet and ideal for bike riding, the local village of Acomb with a few pubs is only about a mile down the road. Only a couple of miles or so further is the town of Hexham where there is a massive range of shops including Tescos where you can seemingly buy anything!
Being just a couple of miles from Hadrian`s Wall, some great days can be had visiting the many Roman themed sites including the larger ones such as Vindolander And Housteads. There are many other attractions locally and the site is perfectly situated for various day trips. Even the Metro shopping centre is within easy reach if the wife wants to spoil your weekend completely!
All in all this is a lovely site with loads of space for the kids to entertain themselves leaving the grown-ups to relax. Although lively during the day, total peace returns after dusk giving you one of the quietest night's sleep you could imagine.
Returning next bank holiday for a fund raising event.

We have just sited our tourer here for the 2016 season and we have found this site one of the best we have been to. The location is central to exploring the Borders, North East, Cumbria and the lakes.
The site itself is well kept, clean hot showers and the wardens Lynn and John are very helpful indeed, nothing is too much trouble. We are looking forward to our many holidays here this year!

We had a lovely reception when we phoned to book and a warm welcome on arrival. However, we hated the site from the moment we got there. The pitches were on gravel in wide areas. It felt oppressive like a wooded area within a quarry. We were also disappointed by the number of seasonal outfits that all had an unkempt look. It was about 4 pm when we arrived, and decided to stay as it would be difficult to relocate before dark.
On arrival I was given some information in a leaflet, with the comment that most of it was not relevant. I was also told that there were only 2 groups on site, us and one other. I set off round the site with my dog and was on a quiet area, with empty seasonal pitches when I slipped her off her lead. From no where a warden ran after me and asked that I put my dog on a lead, which I did immediately. He then proceeded to lambast me about the 'rules' had I read them, why not? he went on and on. I could understand his attitude if I had refused to tether her, but I did as he asked and he was totally obnoxious. I told him so.
Signs, signs everywhere. Do this, don't do that. There were even 2 signs (exactly the same) on one small window in the ladies advising you not to open it. I cannot help but feel that if you treat people like children it cannot make for a good relationship.

We spent two nights here at the end of June when the site was very busy. We stayed in the area by the wooden pod and had plenty of space to ourselves to watch the woodpeckers and the bats!
All the facilities were kept very clean and there was never a queue for the showers or washing up area.
The site is well maintained by the wardens and is probably 95% seasonal caravans - but that does not stop tourers and campers receiving a warm welcome.
A special mention to one of the wardens, John, who leant us a gas regulator for the weekend after we forgot ours!
The pubs in the village serve good ales and food with dog-friendly beer gardens (and inside the Sun Inn).
The pub near the campsite does not have a range of beers but is also dog friendly - which is always good!

The lane leading to the site had passing places until a bridge on a bend in the road led us to reception. Offered to be walked to our pitch, the lady seemed unclear with her instructions so, following the directions given at reception, set off on quite the wrong path. This resulted in having to take the caravan around what can only be described as a switchback trackway of some 800 yards.
Arriving at reception yet again, we were at last escorted to our pitch. Found some damage to the side of the caravan from some projecting tree during our impromptu tour of the site so not best pleased.
The shower block had a code, difficult to operate. Come chucking out time, my wife kept a close watch on traffic and I drove up the one-way to the barrier. The warden was not happy. I suggested that the tarmac lane to the touring pitches might be best operated both ways during home time but that fell on deaf ears.
Will not be visiting such a convoluted and unnecessarily difficult site to negotiate ever again.

I hate to leave a negative review but I was very disappointed with this site. Within 10 minutes of setting up on our pitch I returned to the office and asked if there was a quieter pitch available as a group of children were doing handstands and playing just in front of our habitation door.
The wardens were extremely helpful and returned with me to check on the situation and said that they would ask them to be more quiet. I asked them not to say anything as the kids were just being kids and, it being Saturday they would probably be returning home the next day. However, the next day I observed that children were riding their cycles around the toilet block and shouting/screaming at the top of their voices.
Another problem was with the state of the Ladies toilet block.
There was a huge puddle of water in the shower area which the site was aware of as there was a sign requesting the users to reduce the power of the shower to prevent the puddle forming.
I spent 5 minutes using the implement provided for dispelling the water but obviously many people didn't bother. The floor of the toilet block seemed to be permanently muddy.
The dog walk was quite good and many parts of the site were quiet but these seem to be the parts that were reserved for the units that were on site for the season. The units appeared to be situated very close together(no 6 metre rule here)but whatever turns you on!
It seemed a shame as the reception area and the wardens couldn't be faulted but on arrival you are given a leaflet about the site which emphasised in block capitals that a certain degree of quiet should be maintained in order not to disturb other campers. This would have been impossible for the wardens to uphold, they did their best but couldn't be everywhere.
I think we just came at the wrong time, weekend, and possibly during the week the site is quiet but the noise was too much for us and we cut our losses and moved on.

Visit here as often as possible. This is a lovely site, well cared for by owners John and Lynne Miller, who go out their way to make sure everything is OK. Nice clean toilet blocks with good showers and a shop selling your basic needs. Theres no road noise as it is set in a tiny forest with hardstanding and grass pitches which are open, so you can enjoy the sun. Supermarkets just seven minutes away in Hexham with extra new shops being built since last visit. Local car boot sale on a weekend and nice curryhouses. Site caters for dogs as there's a good dog walk on site. You will not be disappointed. Good value for money all round and kids can enjoy playing without being too close to your pitch

My wife and I, and our greyhound have just come home from a week at fallowfield dene in our caravan and we loved every minute of it. We were greeted by the owners who were really friendly and helpful throughout the whole stay. We shown to our pitch, the owner helped me pitch the van as we are newbies and he left us to settle in.
The site is beautiful with lots of sheltered landscaped seasonal pitches and great for walks around. There is a dog walk as well and Acomb is a nice walk away.
Showers and toilets were always clean at all times, the site had a friendly atmosphere and at night was quiet. On the last day I tried Lynne's coffee from the well stocked shop and cafe. The wardens work tirelessly keeping the site clean and looking nice but are never too busy to have a chat about how our day.
We will be back next year and I would love a seasonal here it is simply bliss.
Thanks Fallowfield Dene!

Approach through village and single track lane cautiously when towing. A very friendly and informative greeting and the warden accompanied us to our pitch. The site is made up of little enclaves named after Roman notables and set in woodlands. Most of the grass pitches are in full sun, if we are that way again we would choose one of these but that's just our preference. Facility blocks very clean. The takeaway curry delivered to the site excellent and highly recommended. Ideally located for local attractions and we were given printed directions to the Wall which was a nice touch.
