This site was fantastic, I can't for the life of me find any faults. The shower blocks are brilliant with 6 showers, loads of wash cubicles with hair dryers, 12 toilets, loads of hot water
The people are nice and friendly. The small hotel up the road is great. The field we were on is close to the shower block in a secluded crescent shape block of grass.
The view over the fields is great and its only 10 min from the town of Hexham. There is a small village about a mile away which has 3 good pubs. Cant wait to go back with the grand kids

I stumbled on this site by accident, I had just purchased my New Sunncamp Prism from United British Caravans In Newcastle, on my way home, I decided to whip the laptop out, do a campsite search (Using ukcampsite.Co uk of course)for the sites nearest the postcode my satnav indicated. The first didn`t answer their phone, the second did, and was Fallowfield Dene, who agreed to 'Put me up' at very short notice, at 7pm on a wet thursday evening (sept 3rd 2009)
I arrived 15 minutes later, and was greeted at the security gate (Card reader operated, cards supplied at reception) was given my card, by the cheery owner, who gave me the standard patter about the location of the facilities (bless her, she must repeat it a thousand times a season) and told to pay her in the morning.
I was directed to 'Brutus' plot 7, which was newly turfed, with separate hard standing for vehicles adjacent, (one car per tent, to protect the hard standing - any other vehicles must be left in the car park provided opposite the gate lodge) I think the turf could do with a little more time to mature, and because it had been rained on for about 5 days on and off, was a little sodden underfoot, (glad I had an my footprint groundsheet)but it was big enough to fit the Prism, and level, although I had to peg the guys on one side into the hard standing (which wasn`t so hard in some places, thin layer of hardcore, on a thick layer of mud)
There are a couple of pictures which show the standard of the pitches, in the tent review section (sunncamp prism)
All the plots were fully hooked up, with a 16 amp maximum.
The site itself, was a bit of an eye opener, obviously well established now, it has aged well. Nestled amongst the trees right next to Hadrians wall, it has a single track road with a 10 mph speed limit, winding a torturous circuitous path through the woods, with little enclaves, named after famous Roman leaders and Military, sprouting off at random intervals.
There were a lot of vans there that looked like they had been there for a long time, I`m assuming that they stay there year round, which means that the owners must come back time after time, a good sign I think.
Hexham is the nearest large(ish) town, about 10 mins drive, including parking up, with the obligatory Tesco Extra, or a Waitrose Superstore (marvellous) plus the usual pubs and restaurants, none of which I tried sorry.
As previously mentioned, there are also some nice country pubs in the village of Acombe, which is walkable, even after sampling the local ale.
The facilities were absolutley superb, clean, heated, accesible by security code (listed on the introductory site rules given with your key card at reception)and with amazing showers, included in the price, not just good electric showers, these are the industrial type you would find in a swimming baths, or a sports stadium changing rooms.
Round the back of the ladies facilities, is the laundry room, 2 semi industrial washing machines, and a tumble dryer, a wash costs £2.20.
Next door is an open, but covered washing up area, with 3 large sinks/drainers, with loads of very hot water, at all times. ( I tried them just to see at 2am, sad but true)
This was the most luxuriously appointed site I`ve been to. It is camping and caravanning club listed, and the standard is commensurate with it`s status.
My enduring memory of the site was sitting on a stone stump, on a mild cloudless night, watching rabbits playing in the full moonlight, with the green ringed by the twinkling lights of the caravans, and the treeline behind, an image I`ll always remember.
I was charged £5.00 pppn which is an absolute bargain considering the facilities offered, and no extra charge for Electric hookup.
I understand there are 32 Touring pitches, and 118 permanent annual pitches.
Well recommended, accepted me even though I didn`t have C&CC membership.
Would like to visit in high summer, light evenings to explore the surroundings would be nice.

Stayed here 2 nights whilst touring.
The site is conveniently situated within a 10 minute drive to Hexham. Hexham has a large Tesco store, Waitrose and an M&S up the hill - so plenty of choice for food shopping.
We stayed here as the site was near to our main route north, and fairly close to the Vindolanda Roman Fort, which we visited (30 mins away, which we can well recommend). Hadrians wall and walking is closeby.
The approach to the site is up through the village of Accomb, ending with a very narrow wooden bridge over a wooded gulley - quite a tight turn, particularly for long vans.
We were disappointed to find that the site was full of seasonal pitches. There were very few touring pitches, just two small areas next to the loos. Considering the price, it was not up to our expectations in line with other sites we have visited.
Our pitch was on a very damp, moss covered, handstanding, in full shade, near to the toilet block. The area was muddy (it had rained the previous night though).
The shop had very little in stock, a few tins and children's sweets.
The toilets were spacious and clean - however, the water pressure was not good in the showers.
All in all - it was ok.

Although the site mainly caters for seasonal pitches there were quite a few people like us who were just there for the weekend. We were camped in a newly turfed field which was less than a hundred yards from the very clean, spacious toilet block. The owners were very friendly and helpful and at £9.50 / night it was fairly good value with the tent. We also had family in the same field in a caravan which was more expensive and probably at the edge of what they’d be willing to pay. Although our field was ok some of the other fields looked much busier and a little crowded but it was the half-term week so it’s hard to gauge how it would be off-peak.
There isn't much for children on the site and ball games are prohibited but the children who were there seemed to enjoy running through the wooded areas.
There is a small shop which had a few bits and pieces but it mainly stocks sweets and games for the kids.
There’s a footpath which runs down through the site connecting with Acomb (15mins) and Wall (30mins) where there are nice pubs with gardens. Further afield, Hexham is walkable (about 45-60 min) or a 5-10 min drive and has a couple of supermarkets and plenty of other attractions. There are a good few Roman sites nearby which are excellent but you would need to drive to them, especially with kids.
Overall it’s a nice site and we’d certainly go back!

What can I say. 30 minutes drive from home. Set in gorgeous wooded grounds, the site is peaceful and relaxing. Toilet facilities are first class and were immaculate. A lot of the site is made up of seasonal pitches but everyone was friendly. I am returning to the site in June and I can't wait.

Big site, which is not our usual type, but great setting in the woods. We were parked really near the toilets and showers, which turned out fine. Showers & hairdryers are included in the price. Very clean toilet block, we were impressed. £14.50 for 2 of us and a small camper, £16.50 includes elec). Bit more pricey than where we usually stay, but facilities were excellent. Loads of kids there, who all seemed very happy running about in the woods, bat hunting etc. Nice, friendly owners. Lots of other campers there seem to go again and again, although for us, it was just too big. Would think it was great it you've got kids that like running and cycling around in a safe space. Close to Hexham town centre and countryside around is lovely.

This was our first time camping and it was great! We got in at the last minute but we were near the toilets, which were way nicer than I expected, and the owners were very helpful in letting us know what was in the surrounding villages.
We took our kid, and although there wasn't a play area, there were a few other children around and little paths in the woods for her to explore.
The village is really nice and we ate a great meal at the Miner's Arms- local and fresh food- fabulous! If you go further down into the village and pass the post office there is a little lane up to the left- at the end of the lane is the common with a passable play area (slide, a few old swings and a couple of nice climbing frames).
The owners must have taken on board comments about the toilets being closed for two hours as the Disabled one is now open when the others are shut.
A good start for us!

This site mainly caters for caravaners, with the tents on far edge of the site, sheltered by trees and over looking the great views of Northumberland. Not that it's very big, but this means a couple of minutes walk to the very clean toilets and hot showers. Having said that, this is a great little site in the perfect location for the Hadrian's Wall and lower Northumberland, with Acomb minutes away (a very pleasant 15 min stroll around the edge of the the adjacent farm) and the bustling market town of Hexham only a five minute drive away.
There's a pub only a few hundred yards out of the entrance and two in Acomb itself, one with a chippy around the side and the Sun Inn with a beer garden and pub food.
I can only speak for tent users, but if your walking or cycling there, it's got all you need to get there, get the tent up and sit and chat and watch the sun go down.
Great little site, it's rekindled my love of camping.

We were tent camping this time for three nights. Very good site with friendly staff and excellent clean loos if a little way from the tent area. This was seperate to the caravans, and while a little exposed to a strong easterly wind while we were there, did have super views over the countryside. Each pitch was numbered and can imagine it could easily get full.
Very handy for Hadrians Wall and Hexham. Allen Banks also had really nice walks.
The Mariners Hotel is just a few yards from the entrance and the Miners Arms in Acomb is a lovely proper local with home made food and good range of real ales.
Would use this again.
